Great......... looks like it's nearly time to return to WoW if Nexon doesn't fix this soon. Getting to 200 is not worth freaking out everyday over whether I will get hacked or not, despite doing everything on MY end to stay safe.

Could be exaggeration, I don't know. It might be naive, but I'm still hoping that this is just a one-off break in/partial leak, and that they don't have a direct line into Nexon's database anymore.

hmm, that's interesting, as, forgive me if Im wrong, but we havent seen any Galicia hackings, have we? If both those are indeed true, then perhaps what they have is simply an old copy of the database (however they got their hands onto it), with no method of getting onto newer accounts.

If what I've said above is true, then a "safe" thing to do is to create a new account to store everything on, as they wont be able to get there.

Thoughts?

This. I would like to know. I wouldn't mind making a noob account and store all my valuables away if it means 100% protection of said items.

But what does that have to do with having a character on Galicia? You could have an old account with a Galician character, right?

Relatively safe anyway, there are literally tens of millions of low level accounts. They can't look through them all in any reasonable amount of time.

Something I was thinking of, for security, would be an item lock that gave items the Lilin's Ring status - can be traded within the account, but not dropped/sold/etc. Maybe with the additional proviso that you cannot delete a character that is carrying such an item. It would make that kind of thing a lot more useful... I'm not exactly gonna lock a different attack glove to every character, but some of the stuff my DK/WK share would benefit from being account-tradeable only.

Item locks already work like that, unless the item is already untradeable/needs to be karmaed.

I agree, I thought at one point locking your wedding ring would be deletion protection, but that doesn't prevent you from initiating a divorce. And to boot recently they made it so you can delete chars without leaving family, so I'm guessing married chars can too.

Permanent item locks should have been free but cost nx to remove. Nexon might even have made more money that way.

For the truely paranoid, you can do this, as posted by 'someone' on sw:

"My advise would rather be, if you very want to change password on Nexon site, go and get yourself something like Ubuntu Live CD, reboot into it, then change the password using a browser on the Live CD and make it the first thing you do and then log on to your email account and delete the mail that nexon sent to you with the password on it, and don't visit any other website at all on the same boot session. This way you can be sure that:
1. there was no key logger on the system.
2. there can't be any exploit from other site that would affect you when you log into your Nexon account.
3. If there were exploit that attack windows system sitting on Nexon site(since windows is expected), it would not work."

The Linux image is 690Mb, so its taking a while to download. Like i said, for the paranoid.

it was avg antivirus i scanned it right after i noticed my pin was changed and my account was stripped deleted it and it was fine after apparently since i rescanned with online scanners, avg etc and found nothing

I was tempted to do the same when I got hacked. But honestly, there's always the possibility that you just found someone else with items that have the same stats. Not to say that they're not yours, though.

I myself was hacked in October of '09. The 1st, iirc. I don't think it was hashing. Then again, I'm far from an expert on how the internet works.

Not to mention that they could be using those items to bait you to buy them so they can hack you again, hoping that vicious cycle repeats.
