Starbound [Winter Update!] - Razmos - 2013-12-03

Ryukiroku Wrote:Someone's got to fill me in on this one, I've been searching the official Starbound forum and the only weapon I can see that changes the loot tables is the hunting bow... and that's just to get meat. I can't find "Sword users get only Swords" or "Gun users get only Guns". ;/

If a systems in place, it really doesn't bug me too much since I tend to go range overall anyways and maybe forge a sword or two for close combat. If it is like that, I can't really see it staying long due to the fans being extremely loud about decisions like these. We'll see though, got a day to go woot.
Literally the only thing i've that i've seen is that you get meat by using a hunting bow. that's it.

I don't see what the pineapple people are complaining about. You need to use a hunting bow to get meat? so what? They completely took away the annoyance of having to switch from a pick axe to an axe, by using the grabber thing.

You people are complaining about ONE negative which doesn't actually effect the game at all, and completely ignoring the positives. "oh no I have to play a hybrid character!" No you don't.

I find it irritating that people are giving themselves self-limiting gameplay styles and then being pissed off that a game in BETA does not accommodate them completely. Stop whining.

You people are silly, esp. when the Beta isn't out to the masses yet. Rolleyes

I, for one, am going to go into this Beta blind when I stream it tomorrow and see how things are, point out any bugs I see, and just plain enjoy the game.

You're not quite getting the point. It's not about "letting me put limits on my gameplay", it's about giving the freedom in somebody's gameplay. What if they don't WANT to be forced to upgrade all of these things at the same time? The difference between the hunting bow and the typical axe/pick thing is one is a tool and one is a major weapon. Meaning one doesn't affect your playstyle when all you're doing is switching in to chop a tree down and the other is hurhur can't get this item by any means that you need without switching to this weapon type. People have different playstyles, so a sandbox shouldn't be the genre that forces you into specific ones.

Also, the game isn't littered with "positives" to begin with. You make it seem like the game is god-tier and people are just nitpicking it. There are more issues than just the hunting bow which I've mentioned at least a couple more in my previous post. So far Starbound's positives are limited to its charming art style and "fresh start".

The only person whining is yourself. The point of beta is to bring up issues in the game. It doesn't matter how big or small they are, if something isn't quite right you bring it up. A game doesn't just automatically have its issues fixed for full release out of nowhere; you need people reporting issues first. So whether the issues are "They keep using it's instead of its", or the hunting bow, or the floaty controls, or the out-of-place SFX, etc they're going to be talked about. We have no way of knowing what they ALREADY plan to fix or tweak after all, so bringing up anything is important. For all we know they would have never noticed certain issues had they not been brought up by the community.

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't be in Diamond Tier pre-order status if I was just going to completely pomegranate on the game and not give it a chance right from the start. I've been looking forward to this just like everybody else, and I still am, but I'm going to at least be realistic and honest about what I see as well as my own experiences once Beta is fully out for everybody tomorrow.

On discussion, there's a couple things that have bugged me as well while watching a couple Let's Plays of it. The lightning/electrical effects are pretty ugly and need some reworking or to be made flashier. Also, not many of the LPers know what that the temperature bar is exactly that. They keep thinking it's the sunlight bar or power bar or some other random indicator. It doesn't do a good job of communicating on what it is and it doesn't do well for general "game feel". I'd say it needs a color scale, appropriate degree value, or maybe just an icon change from a sun to a thermometer.

I'm not trying to be overly critical as I know this is a beta build but this game is pretty ambitious. Without us being able to report these said issues the game could end up a mess. I'd consider the feedback for the better. I like to think we're in a pretty good position because the devs are the type to listen to their audience and testers.

On a much more positive note here's the trailer:

Go to your Humble Bundle account guys. The keys are now available on your pre-order page.

Starbound [Winter Update!] - Razmos - 2013-12-04

I got my key and activated it, but nothings happened. No download, no game available in my steam library. tried to use the key again, and it says that the product WAS activated, so I have absolutely no clue what to do now.

Starbound [Winter Update!] - Jonatan - 2013-12-04

I have the exact same proble as Razmos, no idea on what I have to do.

Starbound [Winter Update!] - Dark Link - 2013-12-04

Literally exact same thing. It's probably cause the game isn't on Steam yet.

Starbound [Winter Update!] - z0mgc00k13 - 2013-12-04

boop

Starbound [Winter Update!] - Razmos - 2013-12-04

Oh, that's unfortunate. it's good that it is a (non?) issue on Steams part, rather than a problem with the game.

Starbound [Winter Update!] - z0mgc00k13 - 2013-12-04

Not quite, a tweet from molly just says that theyre uploading the update.

Oh wow this download speed. downloading via steam is usually slow enough. It's like around 8kb/s on average Sad

Starbound [Winter Update!] - Dark Link - 2013-12-04

Just got it. Random delay lol. Pretty decent size to boot, 1.3GB.

Starbound [Winter Update!] - Reako - 2013-12-04

Game is done downloading! Now to investigate how to set up a server.

 Mudkip vs Slowbro

Starbound [Winter Update!] - Dark Link - 2013-12-04
