Ok let's see how Oda proceeded so far with the arc.
1. The strawhats arrive on fishman island, there's a prophecy Luffy will destroy the island, Caribou captures mermaids (we still idn't hear of him after that), strawhats get accused.
2. We don't even have the time to wonder what's going on, Hodi and Vander Decken attack.
3. Main allies of Hodi are introduced, they seem pretty strong.
4. The strawhats become allies of Neptune.
5. Zoro 1hko Hodi (lol.) the strawhats get separated after the incident at the plaza.
6. Luffy is with Shirahoshi having a good time to the sea forest. They meet somoene related to Tom and some of the strawhats. They 1hko Vander Decken.
7. Useless flashback.
8. The strawhats use a diversion and burst into the plaza to save Neptune. Epic battle seems to be coming. Hodi takes lots of pills and transform
9. We're about to learn Hodi's true face!!!! What can it be???
10. He's evil.
11. Zoro 1hko Hyouzou or w/e.
12. Facepalm hard.

Oda has been playing the "fish people = discriminated" card for 3 years, and many of us are tired of it. I don't know about anyone else, but I read this manga because I like to see the strawhats do things like punch people so hard they explode.
Which was still awesome.

I'm not going to say I prefer outright formulaic writing, but I would prefer this arc to have followed the old "watch everyones fights one at a time" finishing with luffy laying the smackdown on hodi, rather than jumping back and forth between people randomly.
I'm more intrested in ussops claiming he can win his fight in "three moves", and choppers fight.
Also the massive difference in the style of fights between luffy and zoro isn't helping much. I know I've already said it a few times so it's not worth going over, but luffy taking so many chapters to deal with hodi when zoro already forced him into a catatonic state in one slash is ridiculous.
Well, that and I can't help but think that (yeah repeating myself again) throwing Jinbei (or Sanji) up to deal with hodi and decken would have prevented all the problems now, instead of Luffy insisting he go and then not being able to move around as fast as hodi casuing the current situation which could have been easily avoided.

The latest episode was animated really well. Had me smiling like an idiot for most of it. I can't wait for them to animate some of the current stuff, like insane Hodi; he looked pretty badass in the most recent chapter.

It doesn't really seem to compliment his fighting style more than it would anyone else who uses physical attacks.
Yeah it makes his punches harder. Which is exactly what it would do for anyone with a physical fighting style.
At least now we can make a solid good guess that Monster point is the form that chopper meant when he said only one needs a rumble ball to be used way back when. Being able to control monster point must put chopper way up the crew strength ratings anyhow, probably 4th below sanji.

Hehe that was pretty beast. Jimbei isn't joining lol. Balance of power would be too off and Oda said he wouldn't do that. Not to mention Jimbei isn't close enough to the crew to join.
I don't think anyone else will join tbh. Especially after everyone had their own time skip adventures, joining now would be like...Lol...

Thers supposedly 2 more expected crew members. People assume it's going to be jinbe because it'll kind of bridge the whole human/fishman thing.

I agree jinbe will join for the bridge of human/fishman, and he'll come in handy when/if devil fruit members are drowning or something, but why is there two expected members? What's the speculation on that?
