I probably wouldn't play a virtual reality game on that level. Uncanny valley, yo.

Totally. So much fun to watch a person scream at a horror game he's clearly not actually being scared by. Hilarious.

I'd probably stay the f'uck away from anything like that. Don't want my grip on reality to be slippin. Watching the cultural/news/societal/idontquiteknowthewordforthis shitstorm that would erupt would be very entertaining though.

Understandable, me personally if it were to ever exist in my lifetime I might give it a try. You already lose track of reality with any game that requires alot of attention and concentration (e.g Dota) well at least I do, but of course when the game ends you are like oh yeh real life. Everyone should know their limits.

But that would probably be one of the biggest selling points of such a system, an escapist's paradise. Oh the abnormal behaviors that consume the mainstream.

Lol postulation, such critic, granted that is simply your experience so fair enough. Furthermore the point of his videos, from my observation, was to entertain which was accomplished, not review the game and beat it to a pulp like a hardcore gamer. Burden of proof would is too heavy with such a claim, and it really doesn't matter if one person finds it fake, general perception is everything when it comes to entertainment and the proof of that can be seen with the ratio of likes to dislikes and/or views.

but it's not a bug, it's a feature. I think a game with actual permadeath would be fun, personally, as long as pvp wasn't a thing; people would actually cling together and work as a team because they would be forced to; pvp being a thing really did completely ruin that game and because of it the entire show, all it did was make everything needlessly grimdark with a feeling that there was zero chance of escape, along with giving an idea of "zomg guys killing ppl is so kewl".

If it wasn't just limited to the amount of people SAO was, there would be less chance that the amount of people would be culled down to a level where endgame content would be unclearable because everyone was already dead. Most people would probably still be useless in a situation like that, but with a greater population there will be more of the minority with no regard for the value of their own lives. Not to say I would be willing to risk my life just to have fun in this world, if such a situation even exists, but, being a demi-superhuman changes things even if your opponents are the same or greater.

I honestly wouldn't mind being stuck in a game like SAO right now, not really doing much with my life anyways so meh.

IS HE JUSTIFIED? - Malthe - 2014-03-20

Why are we talking about being stuck in a game like SAO when Elder tales is an infinitely better game?
Sign me up for getting stuck in Elder Tales.

You're trying to hard to sound smart, the entertainment value is being scrutinized by the previous poster because it's simply a guy exaggerating.

I also find it ironic that you default to "well everyone likes it, the results show it!", as if his opinion appearing to be in the minority makes it worthless. I mean if you put a bunch of retards in a room they are eventually going to hug. Or are you suggesting games like "call of duty", are technological marvels based on the number of purchases and not consumers being stupid?

That's probably one of the only things SAO did right in my opinion, the way it showed the game as a way for people to escape reality, often to the point they would completely forget about the outside world. It's a worrying prospect in regards to Virtual Reality games.

Sure, I love gaming, but I don't see it as a way of escaping reality, just as a break from it.

KhainiWest Wrote:One Punch Man would make a great anime. Without giving it away, it's about a guy who punches villains, monsters, and other species resulting in them being defeated and progressing the plot. If you like One Punch Man then you should consider watching Full Metal Alchemist. Without giving it away, it's about two brothers who accost villains, monsters, conflicting alchemists, and other 'species' resulting in them being defeated and progressing the plot. Usually there is tension and build up with a town being in trouble involving other alchemists (who also have super powers) also being placed in danger, however the problem is ultimately resolved through him alchemizing his way towards a resolution and achieving overall good for the community as a whole.

Onepunch-man is great but i'm not sure how great it would work as an anime. Maybe i have just been spoiled by Murata's art and ONEs story-telling and am afraid of it being ruined by an adaption.

I do wish for a great adaption of it.

Then again we're almost only missing a soundtrack and some voice acting.

Malthe Wrote:Onepunch-man is great...

One Punch Man is a great parody on everything shonen.

Sword Art Online wasn't that bad, the use of bonus chapters of the LN being used in the beginning was weird, but well placed considering how they wanted to create a hole where Kirito was separated from Asuna and the majority of other players in the game. Log Horizon had a more mature (also better) take on the MMO elements in the beginning of the series, however it unfortunately decided to jump in a fire and stay there until the plot crawled to a halt. Animation wise I liked Sword Art Online. However, both series made me increasingly apathetic with the plot development towards the end of both series.

Sardines Wrote:Toradora!'s story begins with the male protagonist Ryūji Takasu who is frustrated at trying to look his best as he enters his second year of high school. Despite his gentle personality, his eyes make him look like an intimidating delinquent, so he feels utterly hopeless about his chances of getting a girlfriend anytime soon, and does not have many close friends either. After being greeted by his hungover mother in the morning, Ryūji goes to school and is happy to find that he gets to be in the same class with his best friend Yūsaku Kitamura and a girl he has a crush on, Minori Kushieda. However, it is then that he unexpectedly knocks into "the school's most dangerous animal of the highest risk level"—Taiga Aisaka—who just happens to also be in his class, and is a good friend of Minori.
Taiga has a negative attitude towards others and will not hesitate to snap at people. After meeting Ryūji, she takes an instant dislike to him. Taiga comes from a rich family, but she has moved out to live on her own due to family issues. She is coincidentally living in an apartment next to Ryūji's. When Ryūji discovers that Taiga has a crush on Yūsaku, and Taiga finds out about Ryūji's affections towards Minori, Ryūji suggests that they cooperate to win the objects of their affections. Taiga exploits the fact that Ryūji will do anything to get closer to Minori. She makes him her personal servant, getting him to do all her household chores (cooking and cleaning). Taiga spends a lot of her time over at his house, so much that she could almost be considered a member of his family. Since Ryūji spends a lot of time with Taiga, he has opened up to her world and to a side of her that most people do not see. The two also try to help each other improve the way people view them. However people they know from school start to become curious about their strange relationship and rumors begin to spread about them behind their backs. Ryūji and Taiga start getting along more as things progress with the relationships between the characters and eventually confess their true feelings of love towards each other.

But really, I can't engage myself in One Piece anymore. Oda has repeated his method of story telling in order to extend his story to meet popularity. However, this has resulted in him showing the same hook too many times. Oda's formula is basically to make the pirate team focus on short term goals by traveling to one island at a time where a different short story is to be told concerning racism, friendship, corruption, and justice. This runs parallel to him running the long term story that begins to intersect with the short term as the world government, special nobles, the sichibukai, and the great pirate kings play out and have plans that overlap the crews journey from island to island lending Oda the ability the time to work on the long term. The long term story is the true story. The true story in the sense that it is the story with the most relevance after one hundred chapters have passed.

It doesn't take long for people to realize that residents of island X, Y, or Z are not important beyond being used as points to progress the plot. Luffy is always moving on to the next island in order to meet reader's expectations and hasn't really backtracked to any of the islands he has previously visited because that's not his goal. Make no mistake that One Piece is good, however it's shonen good. Given shuisha's business model, One Piece would be the poster child of someone running their corporate policy to optimal levels. The meat of the story is being spaced by large amounts of padding to draw out content which makes it incredibly disengaging to follow. Without a doubt a lot of manga that become anime adaptations have excessive amounts of padding. One Piece has a great hook and is able to draw in readership during lulls of the story with bits and pieces of the true story coming into play. However, One Piece has so many pieces of true story in play that it could last another 1,000 chapters if they continue with their current plot pacing. I believe that its popularity is its own demise because if a story is that popular, then the editors will pressure the mangaka to continue. The story must go on.

The only example I can think of is the current arc in comparison to Alabasta, in terms of a schichibukai taking over a kingdom, although crocodile was trying while donflamingo was successful.

Actually most characters if not all have had their own short cover stories on where they are at as luffy makes his journey. The underlining point of one piece I've come to find is that Luffy makes friends with half a dozen characters per island, who will help him in the final battle for true freedom. So I completely disagree that characters developed in short term goals (islands) aren't revisited, they are constantly brought back into the story. The long term story is Luffy reaching the goal of pirate king, where all the other crew members have their own personal goals, but they are no longer for themselves, but to help the captain.

In fact the greatest recognized power that luffy has is the army that's constantly being foreshadowed for the final battle.

One piece is not being drawn out like what DBZ gone through (where the creator was harassed to the point where he was forced too). One piece has an end, and I'm hoping a satisfactory ending much like full metal alchemist brotherhood managed, but we're about 60-65% done, we passed the half way point the moment punk hazard started, unfortunately the last two arcs have been slow but my god, the current arc just is just full of sh`it you as a reader would have never guessed would have happened

but that's like, my opinion man

I haven't paid attention to all the one panels. However, in the majority of them the one panel exists and is set apart from the main storyline to present a gag or alternative story that involves the character(s) featured inside it that has no relevance to the main storyline (based on the ones I've seen.)

Some of them yes, but some explain what happened to Enel for example, or cp9, or things like that. I mean impel down brought down half the villains luffy had to deal with
