Something i noticed from the trailer is that you hear voice clips from everyone but Amy, which makes me hope that her current VA has made her sound less extreme helium addiction for this series.

I don't really mind Sonic having blue arms and legs. In fact, it never really made sense to me as to why they haven't been that way from the start. What does confuse me, however, is how Amy gets to keep her original arm-color, but Sonic doesn't. Or am I just seeing things? The new designs aren't too bad for a one off. We needed a breath of fresh air by this point anyway, and rumor has it that the designs will only be used for Boom, so I think it'll all turn out well in the end.

Mario looks pretty decently badass.
Peach looks good and attractive, unlike her normal version.
Toad looks upset to be there.
Luigi == Knuckles here, same problems and everything.

Now we just need it in color for a full comparison.

I can totally forgive them though if the gameplay is good. That's the only thing Sonic needs a good game. Since both games are being developed by someone else then we may actually get one for a change.

That's where I'm at. Despite [insert everything everyone has already mentioned], if the game actually has solid controls then I will be willing to give it a shot.
And just like you said, someone else is developing it, so there is actually a sliver of hope that the game wont be ruined by some bad gameplay decisions.

A ripped Luigi looks far more fitting than Knuckles with a buff body sine his legs aren't as noodle-y thin. But of course then Luigi's no longer the underdog if he's this STRONG. Peach just needs her signature umbrella or her frying pan (old school Super Mario RPG fans represent!).

Reboot the series all you want ok, but why change the character designs? They had the perfect bend of cutery and badassery, they were just perfect. Is there anyone out there that can say there was a flaw in the designs used in all previous games, seriously?

Now Tails looks ok, but Knuckles is horrendous, Sonic isn't far off with his oversized legs and torso and even Amy looks bad with that stick body that doesn't match the other 2. Heck the fawk is wrong with the head of the new character? its like a boomerang itself.

This reminds me of Crash bandicoot when it was sold over to Sierra. A lot of similar changes were made to the whole franchise that ended up burying the character forever.
