So Stoveboy was Min Kim the whole time?

Really? Christmas 3x + CS cards not working. Hell, not even the Quest 2x card worked that day.

Message to the MapleStory community from Nexon CEO - Kirov - 2014-01-04

Every January they post a message saying how this year will be different. Excuse me if I take it with a pinch of salt. This guy does have promise though.

I do like these sort of messages and hope they do continue.

Message to the MapleStory community from Nexon CEO - Tigeon - 2014-01-04

That's great Nexon...wait a minute does that mean I gotta wait till monday for a chance of me getting un-hellbaned?

Do these people even work on weekends?...

Message to the MapleStory community from Nexon CEO - flydemonflyy - 2014-01-04

So their logging method is flawed? And they made billions in profit and refuse to invest in game security? Too many got away with it. Name your baby a cheapass Mr.CEO. Hurt

Message to the MapleStory community from Nexon CEO - Chilly - 2014-01-04

While I appreciate the effort, on a personal level, there is nothing that I hate more than the inclusion of non-sequiturs or personal stories in order to seem more relatable or garner empathy points, especially in a situation of contrition. Compounding that, playing the "victim card" boils my blood in such a fashion that it pretty much negated all the positives that I found in the semi-transparent details of their decision-making process and handling of the situation.

All of those, plus the familiarity of this announcement, makes this well-intentioned piece ring very hollow for me. Maybe it's the fact that I cannot even play the game, perhaps it's because I've seen this story many times over with different CEOs, with different companies, in many different situations, but PR is exactly that, public relations. Returning the game to the point before the dupe, before the hellbans, even before I was unable to login will simply result in a return to the status quo, back to square one. I seriously hope that people won't find moving from -1 (or maybe -8 in this case) back to 0 some sort of laudable achievement. Expect more.

ITT: People thinking "Stove" is a new person when he's the same CEO (Min Kim) that's been giving us the "the hacking situation will get better, believe in us!" talk every year. But hey, now that we all know he uses twitter, we can spam him every time another dupe goes down, right? ...Right?

A bit jaded there, aren't we? xd

We could throw faults all over the place (both at NexonNA and the dupers that wanted to watch the world burn), but it's not gonna get anyone anywhere. It's the actions of the GMS staff does from here that'll speak louder than Min Kim's statement.

Knowing their track record... yeah I'm not going to expect much.

Message to the MapleStory community from Nexon CEO - RenmazuoDX - 2014-01-04

Pretty rough start to 2014 but all we can do is hope and hopefully things will get better from here.

Message to the MapleStory community from Nexon CEO - Justin - 2014-01-04

As someone else mentioned though, why is everyone reacting to Min Kim as though he's a different person? He's...been here the entire time. :f6: Just a different alias.

Quote:Without exposing the actual data, I can say that the availability of all items of concern are now below levels recorded on December 30 (before the hack went public).
I guess 15 star tyrants and duped scrolls/nebs aren't items of concern.

Message to the MapleStory community from Nexon CEO - Lazershock - 2014-01-04

Perhaps im missing something; or perhaps Bera simply wasn't hit as hard as other worlds but, in my scans of the FM around 2 hours ago, I BARELY saw any no-booms or % boss nebs (or unique pots, % all stat nebs, etc)

Am I simply missing something (e.g: the stuff isn't actually being sold in shops?) or....?

Edit: also didn't see any of the ridiculously duped tyrants, all I saw were normal clean ones (or things like 5 star ones)

Message to the MapleStory community from Nexon CEO - MountLag - 2014-01-04

Look at dojo times for a good laugh

Message to the MapleStory community from Nexon CEO - SaptaZapta - 2014-01-04

MountLag Wrote:I guess 15 star tyrants and duped scrolls/nebs aren't items of concern.

Either that, or the private dupers had already built such stockpiles of them by December 30, that a rollback wouldn't have helped much.
However, I doubt whatever tracking mechanism they use can tell a 15-star tyrant from a clean one. It probably goes by item ID.

Either way, I'm a lot more concerned by their apparent inability to catch the dupers and their mules. Min Kim can write all he wants about how crime doesn't pay, and maybe his tech/CS people are feeding him lies, but players can see who's still smega'ing happily and who is still selling freely, and also who is hellbanned without having done anything wrong, and can draw their own conclusions.

See, now this is why GMS is a lot better than MSEA.

No, that was DANIEL KIM, Min is a new CEO

I'd like to hear a certain something from the lying CFO instead additionally, but then again that's not really a pressing matter and I guess there wouldn't be a point to it.

Quote:The second compounding incident was a DDoS attack that impacted many Nexon game services on January 2.
I'm guessing it was DerpTroll?

That's from september of last year. He's been around for quite a while. Nothing has changed in that timeframe.

Min Kim helped launch GMS. He's been here since the beginning. If you've been around long enough to remember the yearly, personalized note about the state of the game and Nexon's efforts to curb hacking, they were all written by him. We can all see how effective that's been...

Message to the MapleStory community from Nexon CEO - Blunderr - 2014-01-04

It doesn't matter to me who wrote it. To me it's all the same bullshit. They post this pomegranate every year and every year they do absolutely nothing different. The sheer mass of people I know with 15 star tyrants and neb stockpiles that aren't even hellbanned is too high for any of this to be as the letter puts it. All this letter says to me is that the people that abused this dupe, whether they hacked or just took advantage of hackers, will totally get away with it.

Now all that said, I'm going to have high hopes for the Better Maple surprise patch scheduled for the coming months. We'll see if this time they're serious. Highly doubtful, though.
