How many here suffer from town lag/freeze? - Darwin - 2013-05-14 I used to have barely any lag in towns, but after the Tempest patch hit, it got too horrible to the point where some days I can't even leave FM. Even outside of towns I get graphics lag when I didn't before, although it's tolerable sometimes... I bought my computer almost 4.5 years ago. I'm buying a new computer in a few weeks though... can't stand the lag and the fact that my computer can barely handle most games because it was a shitty $300 computer from Future Shop that I put more RAM and a video card in. How many here suffer from town lag/freeze? - VerrKol - 2013-05-14 I only get a slight frame rate drop on my i5 4GB desktop, but my 6yr old intel duo 2gb laptop drops to ~10 fps in towns. Of course, the my laptop lags almost constantly running the game because it's not designed for multi-core processing. Any time my laptop hits 50% cpu everything freezes until it drops down again. It would be nice if things were better optimized so I could use my laptop for more than Kanna/HS mule buffing. How many here suffer from town lag/freeze? - Dudewitbow - 2013-05-14 I never got any real town lag from the several years ive been playing. starting from a desktop pc of 2004, a laptop of 2006 and my current desktop of 2012. How many here suffer from town lag/freeze? - Jamesie - 2013-05-14 My desktop that I used to play from 2009 and earlier experienced no town lag and it was outdated. My first laptop that was decent experienced no lag after Big Bang. My current laptop experiences no lag. The only "lag" I have is the start-up lag. How many here suffer from town lag/freeze? - Katforks - 2013-05-14 My computer is a year old and I started having really bad lag this patch. It's not taking up any more memory than usual but my CPU usage spikes. It's not as bad outside of towns but I have been disconnecting more, especially during 2x events when last month I didn't have a problem at all. "Could not connect to game server" and all that crap, kicks me back to the login page [this also happens any time I exit the CS, go figure] and then takes a while to reconnect. I want to blame it on connectivity but when my fiance is sitting 5 feet over from me having no issues playing SCII, I'm not sure whether to blame it on lack of proper OS [lol using 32bit on an x64 computer] or just something with the game for the time being. How many here suffer from town lag/freeze? - SaptaZapta - 2013-05-14 My oldest desktop completely freezes up in towns (except Aquarium, where it only freezes if I enter the room with Cassandra, Gaga, and Maple Admin). Nothing can be done but close the game and relog the character on another computer to escape from town. It lags everywhere else too, and can only be used for event afk'ing and mule duty (HS etc). I started Mapling almost five years ago on that computer, and could do everything fine back then. Hell, I could run 2 or 3 Maples at the same time on it, back when it was possible to do so using different Windows users. My second-oldest desktop only has FPS drop sharply in towns. Idling out of town I have 60 FPS, idling in Leafre is around 25. My newest computer, a laptop, doesn't suffer nearly as much. How many here suffer from town lag/freeze? - MariettaRC - 2013-05-14 My laptop is about 4 years old and I suffer from some pretty bad lag. 4 GBs of memory in this one. This is in fact my computer's fault but the lag seems to get worse in every major patch. It also mainly happens in towns. How many here suffer from town lag/freeze? - Patt - 2013-05-14 I have this problem on both my Windows XP laptops, but not on my Win7 laptop or my Win8 desktop. This problem started with the Big Bang patch. How many here suffer from town lag/freeze? - Mandalay - 2013-05-15 My current laptop freezes like hell at most towns except Aquarium. It's only when I go in that one room where Cassandra resides that I lag in Aquarium. I usually keep Task manager open to monitor my memory usage, and it indeed does skyrocket the instance I start going near Cassandra, Maple Admin, and Gaga. However, when I go bossing on this laptop (notably, Empress Cygnus), I'm more fine in there with a full party than I am completely alone standing near Cassandra. My previous laptop (HP Mini 311) gets no lag whatsoever anywhere. My i3 8GB Gateway desktop gets no lag anywhere, although it takes ~40 seconds just to load the damn game. Wait, you consider 40 seconds to load the game bad? What do you consider good? My newer computer (Gateway i7, with a solid state drive) takes over a minute to load the game. My old comp, probably 5 minutes; I don't have the patience to wait, I just start it up, walk away, and come back later. I thought the usual load time was a couple minutes. Maybe we need a poll for that too. Anyway, on topic, on my old comp in a town I get a few frames per minute. If I get stuck in a town, I usually have to relog on the new comp to escape. My newer Win-7, 4-core has no troubles with town lag, but does disconnect or crash a lot. Memory useage does not seem to go up much in town on newer comp; was 472M in map west of Leafre, 526M middle of Leafre, 507M FM entrance chan 1 (but these values do not repeat well, if I revisit maps later, mem will be higher) CPU doesn't change much either; 5-7% west of Leafre, 6-8% center of Leafre. If I recall, memory usage on my old comp is always much higher, anywhere, even at log-in screen. Edit: Checked old comp; memory usage is much lower than I recalled, only 520M center Leafre, around the same as for new comp. The problem for me in towns is not memory but CPU- its pegged at 99%. That said it does take me roughly 2~3 minutes for gamelauncher to work...

Maybe we need a poll for that too.. Just for a 2D sprite game, I expected faster than 40 seconds because I've loaded some 3D games faster than that. One of my laptops takes 5 minutes to load as well. Another took about two minutes. As a side note, I always found it weird that the memory usage spikes up a bit when you log out to login screen. I don't know enough about computers to know why though. How many here suffer from town lag/freeze? - Aircalibur - 2013-05-15 Running Vista on a five-year old desktop with 4GB of RAM, I lag pretty severely in towns. I actually do fine in most parts of towns, but I always seem to lag wherever Cassandra and the Admin are. How many here suffer from town lag/freeze? - iamflip - 2013-05-15 Assuming minimal activity in towns, I hardly lag at all. And it helps that I have a rig that I bought back in September with 16 GB RAM and a wired internet connection. If there were big groups of people in towns, then I do get several seconds of freezing before I land. How many here suffer from town lag/freeze? - ItzLouis - 2013-05-15 I'm glad that someone finally brought this up. I've been having this problem for the longest time. Since I like to use my laptop as an HS mule, it is nearly impossible to move to another training spot if I have to cross towns. I have this issue with all my laptops except my desktop when playing GMS. My desktop has 6GB ram while my 3 other laptops have 2 GB ram. One of the laptops is new and still freezes completely when I enter towns (except in Aqua). For those who don't know, THIS is not how it is suppose to be!! No one is suppose to completely freeze in towns (unless if you have an extremely old comp). In KMS, I'm able to enter towns with zero issues on all my laptops. There is absolutely no lag and I am able to move freely. I've even tested it with my mom's old laptop with 512MB ram and there are no issues. How many here suffer from town lag/freeze? - ScarTiger - 2013-05-15 Did not experience any town lag or freeze in MapleSEA. Stable 75FPS. ![]() i5-750 AMD 6850 How many here suffer from town lag/freeze? - Thorr - 2013-05-16 It's not a RAM problem. I have conclusively eliminated that. I maxed the RAM on all my machines that lagged in town (the staggering, game ending lag..) and there was no effect. The lag did not lessen. It's also not necessarily a video card problem. I've taken my best video card and put it into my worst PC and nothing changed. The best I can figure is that there is a minimum processor power needed to avoid it, or more likely, a minimum chipset efficiency required. All my 32 bit machines have 4G of RAM, so here is my processor lsit LAGS - Pentium4 HT WinXP Pentium4 HT Win7 Pentium D WinXP Lags, but remains playable enough to get through town - Pentium Dual (Vista) No Lag (other than normal extraction lag) - Core 2 Duo (Xp, Win7 32, Win7 64) i3 (Win7 64) i5 (Win8 64) All of them were tested as above with both the onboard Intel HD graphics and a Radeon HD 67xx. The video card made no difference whatsoever. How many here suffer from town lag/freeze? - MissingLink - 2013-05-16 Thorr Wrote:It's not a RAM problem. I have conclusively eliminated that. Perhaps that is the key, if these caches are large enough to hold the entire Cassandra and Gaga quest history so that it can be rechecked 60 times per second as required.
