What's your type? The majority of people don't even know... - MissAsh - 2008-12-06 Ryuzaki Wrote:First of all, you can't do a blood transfusion in the middle of a forest, except if there's a specialist with you. Then again, you'd need the proper conditions and materials to do so. I mean, you can't just pour blood into a cup and put a straw into the person's arm to transfuse it. Well not a CUP, but yeah xD My dad was in the army for a very long time, and whenever they went abroad, they had to wear chains with their medical info on it, including blood type. Because there were emergency transfusions going on all the time, and people got mass called to donate their blood. Not everyone is going to be in a situation like that, but it does not hurt to know your own blood type. in reality you never know WHY you might need to know it, but it could save your life or someone elses. What's your type? The majority of people don't even know... - Manda - 2008-12-06 I have absolutely no idea. But my mom has some really uncommon type and she donates blood once a year or so. I'll should probably ask when I get a new doctor soon.

Isn't that something you SHOULD know about yourself?I don't know my own blood type... unfortunately, my parent's don't know either, and when we tried to ask the doctor, he said we had to pay extra for blood typing. Then I told him that I were born in the local hospital and asked him to check my birth records and I haven't heard any news since. ![]() However, I know that I'm either O or B, dunno + or -. It really doesn't matter though. If I really needed a transfusion, I'll just get O- blood and that pretty much guarantees that I won't die. What's your type? It's not that it's not easy to find, it's that it's the universal donor so O- is the one being used the most which puts it in super high demand. From the American Red Cross website :

I'm not sure about America, but here, 7% of the population or less has O-. It is also in extremely high demand for donation here too. I would donate more often myself, but giving blood has a really bad effect on me. Harrisonized Wrote:I'll just get O- blood and that pretty much guarantees that I won't die. A low percentage of people have O-. You have to take into account the fact that is the ONLY type they can receive (unlike other types). Giving someone a type that is not their own is done when their own CANNOT be given (they will ALWAYS try to give you your own type first before giving you another type, unless it is an emergency situation), for whatever reason. So if you are going by that mentality, would you feel okay knowing that by taking O- blood you could be depriving an O- person of a transfusion? Really can't believe a doctor is making you pay to know your blood type O_O I'm not sure if my blood type is on my birth cert or not, but my whole family, including both my parents, are all the same type O_o They don't charge you for basic medical info like that here. What's your type? The majority of people don't even know... - Katie - 2008-12-07 I have never heard of a doctor charging someone to get blood typed. All they have to do is add the test in if you ever get your blood drawn. It's very easy to do. Also, if you really wanna know and are afraid to get charged, donate blood. They can tell you very easily. They don't put the blood type's on the birth certificate's in Michigan. What's your type? The majority of people don't even know... - ZachAttack - 2008-12-07 Why would it cost money to take your blood type? In 8th grade we did it in science class in like 2 minutes. You take your blood a bit and put it on this paper, and then you look at the chart it has and compare them. really easy. If it did cost money, I could imagine it would be at max 5 dollars.
