McAwesomesauce Wrote:I mean, potential isn't even the worst part of the game. The worst part is Nexon deciding that players doing 200 damage isn't good enough, so they buff them to do 300 damage, then 500, then 1000 when monsters stay at 350 HP. But that's a discussion for another day.
A past day, I'd think. Wasn't there a thread about power creep?

Suggestion for potential done right - Jared - 2012-09-28

I've honestly not bothered to read most of this thread. I understand what you're going for here, but please understand this game is based upon micro-transactions. The idea of presenting a be-all-end-all solution completely dismantles the business model which has, thus far, proven to be well-suited for Nexon's purposes. We may not agree with it, but in terms of making easy money and doing it quickly, they've got it nailed (albeit at the behest of their customers that see through such a shady tactic).

As much as the idea sounds like it'd be great, it really wouldn't. Take into account that plenty of folks have tons of hoarded NX funded from both game-restricted and literally illegal means, plenty of NX floating around. If a full upgrade on something were as cheap as $215, I assure you the community taking advantage of various game exploits would attain plenty of profit, even with the base cost. Let's not forget, also, that all weapons would from then on be useless for the most part unless one of those expensive upgrades were purchased. Not much different from now, sure, but the certainty has a convenience fee associated with it that works in both directions.

Please check your privilege, I spent a lot of time and hard work on that post where I mentioned Poe's Law, then went on to contribute to the OP.

Bomber Wrote:Making it drop from bosses fixes that, for the most part.

True, in a way. It'd work if the bosses can be killed 1-2 times per day max. It can also work if the cubes are untradeable. Otherwise, the dupers would find a way to dupe them and profit.

Fixing potential in no way includes "removing the risk for personal success". By doing that you give everyone access to that damage, then what do you think will happen? Nexon will make content based on the assumption of that damage. Do you know what that means? No player could even play future content without spending 100's of dollars to get the damage standard that you created.

Fixing potential is easy, first off if I'm buying something, I don't want a worthless stat such as defense, avoidability, or accuracy. Removing those as options would be a start. Next thing is to release an in game method where you can realistically obtain these items, as they are now a big part of the game. This could be as drops, as boss loot(I don't really recommend this as you can solo majority of bosses, if you put essentially a down payment on your character).

A big problem is people have invested so much money into the system, it's a delicate thing to change without pissing a lot of people off. It's like they are trying to create middle ground to those who have level 100-120 weapons with 60% scrolls on them, to those who have 900 weapon attack. Someone with a sling shot to someone who has a Ak47, it isn't working and it doesnt make sense.

It's already like that.

Removing potential isn't the way to fix it because it's obviously too late for that. People have spent hundreds, maybe even thousands, of dollars on cubes and they're not going to be pleased to see all that go down the drain.

Potential is now a big part of the game so IMO all cubes should be accessible through non-NX methods. I don't think dropping from mobs is a good idea because botters will destroy the market.

Perhaps they could implement something like Azwan but for cubes rather than circulators. You earn coins doing whatever and use them to buy cubes and other potential-related items. You start off only being able to buy regular cubes and earn the ability to buy better ones as you progress. They could also make cubes as rewards for some quests and PQs to provide more incentive to do them. These changes would make it fair for all players and provide more incentive to do things other than training and bossing. NX buyers would still have an advantage but not as significant as they do now.

They also need to update every mob to account for potential. Players have gotten stronger while mobs have basically stayed the same.

You do realize that entire paragraph is discussing how it's difficult to change because of the current state the game is in, right?

Suggestion for potential done right - Tukkun - 2012-09-28

I'm totally good with Miracle Cubes dropping at a MMB-like rate from monsters, AND untradable. The better Miracle Cubes might be drops from Pink Bean, Cygnus and whatever other monsters that are considered difficult bosses.

Also, get rid of worthless "3% chance to ignore 20 damage". MaxMP is acceptable, but that thing... just no.

What I realize is that if something's already FUBAR, making informed changes is hardly going to be a major turn for the worse.

Suggestion for potential done right - valhala556 - 2012-09-28

The main thing that needs to be changed is for them to get ride of the usless potenial lines and add more defencive ones. like + %status resistance. -%damage (works like achillies so affects 1/1), and maybe some specific skill updates. like allow flash jump to be casted twice before its delay actives. for more mobililty for theifs.

Cere Wrote:What I realize is that if something's already FUBAR, making informed changes is hardly going to be a major turn for the worse.

So you misread the paragraph and trying to save face by stating the obvious. Well actually not obvious because making such extreme changes without compensating the players is not only dumb it would kill them. Could you imagine investing so much into trying to get your gear to a certain point only for them to handicap it, strip the leftovers and say tough sh`it? The only players that would continue playing are the ones that don't contribute anything anyway.

bast963 Wrote:"Future content" is sadly another 25 classes. New classes can't even wear that damage standard equipment until 140 or 150, and Nexon heavily promotes quitting at 135 with the existence of skillbooks and all the new classes that come out. The proof is in the game itself: Every 4th jobber either quit and became an FM mule, or plays on and off to the point where they're not considered active anymore. Skillbooks failing over and over and over and over heavily contributes to that, since it takes forever and a half to get more of that same book when there's literally 1000 books in the data (including the untradeable ones).

It doesn't change the fact if they choose to release any new content, it's going to cater to the damage core of the game, or so dissapointing itll be blown to pieces by majority of the regulars anyway. Besides that most of your argument wasn't even...related to waht I posted..lol

bast963 Wrote:The investors don't give a pomegranate about any of that and will force Nexon to come out with another 7 potential lines to all equipment if doubling the net worth of Nexon stocks is needed... AGAIN. ***Hidden content cannot be quoted.***

You mean nexon korea? Tell me why does JMS not have the same problems, although they have their fair share? Different investors? Please. You're talking out of your ass and you KNOW it. That's how you FIX the system, knocking it down saying it's unreasonable because they aren't making as much bank is just as unreasonable as your suggestion to strip the risk out of it by paying absurb amounts. You realize those types of cubes would only benefit less than 5% of the maple population, assuming they don't merchant questionable gear/programs?

You can't speak on behalf of anyone but yourself.

I really like this idea. I would play around with equipment more if this existed.

Cubes as a massively difficult reward is a possible idea. Imagine making them available through Silent Crusade or Grand Battle or obscene amounts of coins.

Or they could just refund all NX spent on cubes as Maple Points and eliminate potential. I imagine that would go over well!

Oh, I like the SC idea. Grand Battle, not so much, considering all the flaws people have already pointed out -- not least the timezone problems.

(It would go over well with me... Tongue Shh let me have my unimplementable dreams.)

Yeah if they don't screw it up. Plus could you imagine the incredible influx of nx. It go from where it is now to worthless. That would destroy the game, it be like a private server, especially with meso bag's. The problem with making miracle cubes scarce, without hard resetting, is that veteran players get to keep it, or start off at the cap. If you hard reset it, you got a huge loss, players will be raging, hard.

The best way to do it is scale it down by making cubes at a reasonable drop rate, the higher miracle cubes being boss/mini boss specific, and increase the difficulty of the game to compensate. This would also meaning a revamp of skills to give enough power to balance out the curve.

Bring in a system similar to Minecraft's enchanting system, (Hunting mobs/mining gives a craft level which can be used at a enchanting table to give tools/weps/armor extra abilities) If it was made to require an hour or two hunting for 1 attempt. Would make NX cubes only the shortcut thus still being bought whilst giving those without bottomless wallets a chance if they was to put some work into it. You know.. Like old MapleStory..
