Why did you decide to go to college? - Kurtle - 2012-09-27 Because doctor. Why did you decide to go to college? - KhainiWest - 2012-09-27 I didn't, I took some test for the state showing I was proficient enough to retain information regarding tax law. Now anything I take in college related to bookkeeping/accounting will be paid by the state. Hoozah. Why did you decide to go to college? - Dusk - 2012-09-27 To get a degree to get a job. Simply having a college degree from a reputable school makes it easier to get an interview. I don't even work in the field I majored in. Why did you decide to go to college? - Ryosuke - 2012-09-27 I chose not to. Bums me out when I think about how many people have degrees, and went to college just because they thought they had to, and they end up working some shitty ass job. I love what I do for a living, and I make more than enough money than I need. But for those who do go to college to pursue their career and actually end up doing what they set out to do for the rest of their lives, good for you. Why did you decide to go to college? - DeanNim - 2012-09-27 it entirely depends on my GPA. if i /happen/ to get 3.5, i will definitely go to U, local preferably, SUTD or NUS. If i get less than 3.5 than it looks like i have to live off my diploma. I can live off my diploma but im a person who loves learning... the degree is just a bonus. Why did you decide to go to college? - FrozNlite - 2012-09-27 Because it was always just what it was, as my parents instilled in me since before I can remember. And I went willingly, because I wanted to continue learning and growing as an individual. I don't believe most people are ready for "the real world" at 18. I know many on even this forum alone, myself included, who have gone through/are still going through some massive personal growth years of their lives, which was encouraged and facilitated by the environment of academia. Which is why, interestingly enough, while I have my own issues with college now (stemming from knowing where I want to be and just itching to be there already, and to not be stuck in a rigid structure of learning where daily, mandatory assignments prove your retention and understanding of knowledge), I do strongly believe everyone should go, at least at some point in their lives if right after high school doesn't work out for whatever reason. Also because of what Dusk said, that having a degree from a reputable university aids in finding more and better job opportunities in a myriad of ways than you could ever imagine. Why did you decide to go to college? - みもと - 2012-09-27 It helps in being able to find a job, more so than not having one. That's all it is at the core. Why did you decide to go to college? - Marksman Bryan - 2012-09-27 Because I want to research physics to improve lives and advance space exploration. Why did you decide to go to college? - The Great One - 2012-09-27 Because being a a herpetologist requires a degree. Why did you decide to go to college? - icephoenix21 - 2012-09-27 I have a few reasons: -Because I'm the only child going to a real college (my stepbrother attends a private, unaccredited Bible School, my sister doesn't have anything past a HS education). -To prove to my parents that just because I moved out two days after graduation, I'm not a bad kid that is doing nothing with their life. -I'd like to have a job I enjoy -To get said job, a degree will look a whole lot better on a resume compared to the guy who didn't go. -My current college helps secure a job before graduation. -My hometown has no graphic design market, all the more excuse to gtfo of town. Why did you decide to go to college? - Worthyness - 2012-09-27 I go because my parents heavily emphasized it. Throughout my childhood, my parents and grandparents all encouraged me to do well in school so that I could go to college and live as comfortably they have provided me. They also stated that education is the one way to NOT live in a hell hole of a town and to not be living pay check to pay check like a lot of people in my city do. Because I've been in college, I also learned through an internship that pretty much all places hiring now require at least some decent college degree in order to even be considered for the job, even entry level. I've always loved learning and now I've even found a field that I could really see myself doing for 30 years. I've networked with hundreds of people who I would know to be friends in the future. The experience is amazing. But it's down to the wire now and I'm focusing hardcore to get prepared for the life after college. Why did you decide to go to college? - Connor - 2012-09-28 It was always just assumed that I would be going to university. Truthfully it wasn't until early on in my senior year of high school when we began talking about applications and whatnot that I realized, "oh I guess I'm going to university." I just always liked sciences but never really thought out my plan for life. I think it's a good experience for everyone. It's been hell on earth for me but at the same I've matured so much after only 2 years of it. It definitely shapes you into a different person. Why did you decide to go to college? - Panacea - 2012-09-28 Because learning is fun and I don't have the discipline to do it on my own. Why did you decide to go to college? - CrazyForDex - 2012-09-28 Well it was expected of me, both by my parents/family and society. You need a degree nowadays to get a good job and I didn't feel like working at a McDonalds (or something of that nature) for the rest of my life. Also I now feel that a part of me was striving for more knowledge, whether or not I knew that at the time doesn't really matter at this point. What is perception except the way in which we think we utilize our senses? I might just be a brain in a vat. Why did you decide to go to college? - FabledGumbo - 2012-09-28 Personally, it was a lack of options and a lack of decision making. Unless you know exactly what you're trying to do in life or you're trying to become a skilled tradesman like an electrician or a plumber, the only real other options I saw were working whatever minimum wage jobs you could find in hopes of eventually moving up through your work/job history or joining the military. By comparison, drifting through 4 more years of education with the possibility of a decent paying job that doesn't suck at the end of the road seems like a pretty good deal; especially if you're not the one footing the bill for your education. Why did you decide to go to college? - VerrKol - 2012-09-28 Marksman Bryan Wrote:Because I want to research physics to improve lives and advance space exploration. Mine is startlingly close to this ^, although I've become very interested in UAVs recently. Why did I chose to attend University and study physics? Because I want to understand everything and this is the best way to do it while getting paid. Because I chose this school and degree, I'm already making more money, by a considerable margin, of any of my friends in or out of college as well as some adult relatives. When I graduate, I fully expect to make more money than my nondegreed relatives with 10+ years experience because I have the degree. So yes, it was worth it. |
