People feeling embarrassed about wanting to protect themselves. Wow.

I meant there are people who are ashamed to purchase NX, not that they can afford it Rolleyes.

When I first bought condums when I was 16 I wasn't ashamed of the fact that I was purchasing them, it's just a subject that has bad voodoo. I mean you can sit there and tell yourself, "HELL YEAH I'M GETTING LAID", but your privacy still feels slightly invaded.

I like to buy condoms 1 size smaller, so they said... "OMG it doesn't even fit in it!"....
SELF CONFIDENCE AT IT'S FINEST.

Sounds like a personal problem to me.

I have no problems purchasing things, it's not like I'll see those people again, or if I do it's infrequently.

It is a little wired the first time it was for me anyway cuz the store was packed and the condoms were right next to the pharmacist who was staring at me the whole time. It feels a little weird cuz everyone knows what you're about to go do.

I was more embarrassed about buying nx then condoms.

Google this exactly;

site:basilmarket.com ashamed to buy nx?

It's common, as this would be.

Edit: I'm laughing right now because I found this;
http://www.wikihow.com/Buy-Condoms-Discreetly

...REALLY?

I'm on basil enough to see those threads pop up now and then.
Common or not, I really could care less of what people think of me with the items I'm checking out with, and I'm sure they really don't care, either.

Same could be applied to doctors and such. They see enough people in their offices, it's not like you're the most unusual patient they've dealt with before.

But it's not about YOU YOU YOU. It's about the general populace, you're questioning why it's so difficult, well there's your answer. It's a common insecurity every person has to deal with at one time or the other. One is "hey I want have sex with no repercussions" the other is "I might have HIV/AIDS and die alone".

I would be embarrassed but not offended. Doesn't matter, though, since I'm not sexually active.

It is my opinion, though. I do understand the insecurity of it.

It's just more so 'instant gratification with possible negative consequences' vs. 'slight embarrassment and no negative consequences'.

The common sense choice would be the latter. Hurt

The view point you just expressed is an example of the narrow minded judgmental crap that leads to stigmas on these things in the first place.

There are countless reasons why people have unprotected sex not in the least of which is A) Not knowing better because they've never had any form of sex ed or B) thinking they're in a safe committed relationship with someone they trust. C) being pressured in a moment of weakness D) being taken advantage of our outright raped

There's also the fun filled fact that protection can in fact fail.

I strongly get the feeling from everything you've said and continue to say that you just want to look at it as something dirty and wrong that they chose to go out and expose themselves to and get because it somehow makes you feel better about yourself.

~_~ I don't mean to make generalizations. I am fully aware that every situation is different. I have some of my friends that have been affected by it, and it's not like I'm judging them for it.

There are some careless people, and there are victims of their circumstances; My comments were towards those that are careless.

The problem there is that it doesn't help. You can't unbreak an egg, all you're doing is adding stigma and bias to everyone else. Berating people for being careless after the fact is just wasted negativity.

People are just too cavalier in their sex life IMO.

Making testing more available in more ways can only help.

How coincidental, I pick up the Times and this article is on the cover of my Science Tuesday. Related, there was also an interview (that I did not find online) with an angry doctor and the United States' flailing health care system. It mentioned breast cancer making more connections to the portions of the quote I omitted. Uncanny.
