Actually I think the ones "trapped" by this are not the merchants or other "item transfer" people, legit or otherwise. Those normally don't buy the transfer until they have everything they want on the mule, and then they just don't touch it until it's transferred.
But people who are trying to transfer their mains, they can't just sit and wait for weeks on end, with inventory full of the most valuable stuff and under 1m meso. They play meanwhile, so they have some potions and some quest items and a bit more meso and some space for looting drops... Packing up every time a maintenance is announced is probably prudent, though. Even, or especially, if Hime says there will be no transfers processed.

At least in Khaini, dupers pretty much hoarded majority of the pie bosses since they did damage cap 24/7 and always "won the loot" leading to no one getting any chairs.

Huge disadvantage to people with loot lag at pie boss now though, at least before if you hit enough damage you had time to grab something but now it's pretty much game over. Good that other people have a chance in crowded servers though.

Well. I guess it cuts both ways. Now the strong people (dupers or otherwise) will have a lot less incentive to even touch the pies, knowing every kill will be swarmed by dozens of opportunistic looters and their pets. I'm glad I got my chairs already, because with my loot lag I'd never get a thing in this new system.
In Kradia too, the pies are dominated by a notorious pair of "rich merchants". The cure for that, however, is to make the tent chair untradeable. Then they'd have no reason to ks.

Your dupers were more creative than ours, then.
I only ever saw them by themselves, and looting everything, including untradeable chairs, via pets.
BTW, I was generally able to get the loot anyway, as long as I got about a minute head start (300m hp or so). Apparently because, being two, they "ks'ed" each other as well. Not really sure how that works.

Whenever I had a transfer "prepared" I made sure it was "sitting on it's suitcase, all packed and ready" pretty much ever since i bought the coupon. :f6:

My situation involved a dual blade KSer that hits cap everytime, who then follows his kill with looting all drops with his pet. Him and his Pie Police buddies have all the times scheduled for town/channel, and it's virtually impossible to get anything, as they're never late for the show. They then follow up killing later by going to a crowded area and dropping all the extra chairs they don't need.

I wonder how many "strong" chars are like me then. When my friends go find pie boss, I kill for them in party to get them chairs on x2 or x4 drop in hopes of getting them all chairs. Then I usually help randoms get chairs and any randoms in my party that don't have a tent chair I just trade it to them.
Now I can't do that. Not gonna bother with pie anymore.
