Just in case anyone hasn't done it yet, after completing the Alien quest line in Masteria, Icebyrd Slim gives you a quest to kill 300 drills and rewards you with a B Ranked nebulite, so there's a starting point, it also appears to be repeatable.
Also, since Nexon didn't announce it, I doubt you can get S Ranked stuff, yet.

At least with this system you don't have to "cube away" until you have something better in hand.
If you're cubing an item to Legendary, you only are losing the value of any non-Legendary cubes you used to get that "nice" Unique potential.
Otherwise, you're building off of all the cubes you used to get to Unique in the first place. You aren't, as you suggested, losing "all investment you made in it" unless you got the equipment at Unique already.
If you Alien Cube a Nebulite to rank A, and then they later release rank S, you have to start all over to get a rank S Nebulite since you can only cube them before you attach it.

Question: Would Guardian Scrolls work on any scroll (except for 100% scrolls obviously)?
The reason I bring this up is that a vega 90% does NOT work for every 60% scroll out there.

Shield Scrolls, on the other hand, protect your equipment from having its "Available Upgrade" count reduced by a failed scroll.
Drag and drop a Shield Scroll onto the equipped item before you start scrolling.
Make sure that the item you want to protect shows that the Shield Scroll has been activated. Some items cant be protected with Shield Scrolls, so double-check!
Shield Scrolls will be used up regardless of whether the upgrade scroll was successful.

Guardian scrolls make it so you don't lose a scroll if it fails.
