Not gonna read the other post, especially people like Kalovale.
The truth is, you need to have a natural inkling of math to be good at it. If you don't have it then you're gonna either struggle or have to work hard to get the job done, and even then you shouldn't choose a job that involves math.
Taking math classes will be easy, just read the notes beforehand, do the work, and do the test. It's not for life so you don't need to memorize it into long term memory.

I'm much better at math than my mother was, but I'm probably not a help to the how to do it thing since right now I'm only doing inequalities.
Possible things that can help (* things are ones we use in class):
use tips and shortcits *
sing songs*
do problems and remember them so they'll help you
I might be able to help you better next year. Since I'm at a magnet school, I should be in Algebra this year but I'm not because of a test.

Nah, seriously check it. This chick from my chem lab last semester who was not my partner but across from me asked me to help her in calculus a few times to meet up in the library.
I could tell she sucked at math, and the problem was she started understanding some concepts, but then she would pineapple up on the math. And then other problems where she didn't understand the concepts she would just pineapple up completely.
Priority list:
1. If you know the problem and can get it right definitely, do it now.
2. If you remember the type of problem and can probably work it out, do it.
3. If there's a problem you don't really get but it looks sort of familiar, set it up and solve as much as you can.
4. Go back and quickly check 1 and 2.
5. Try to solve 3.
That's how you "check" your work and take (math) tests.
