i was in 9th grade, was in my english class when the news came over the intercom. i dont know anyone who was in the air at the time, dont know anyone who was in new york city / washington dc, dont know anyone who knew a person who died.

but i still hate bush. oh, and we didnt get off school that day.

4th grade, I live in NY so fear factor was higher...I remember walking through the hallway with my class and maybe going home early.

My grandpa, who me and my mom lived with, worked in manhattan and usually he gets home late, like 7 or 8 PM. He showed up around the same time that night, not because of work, but because the poor old man had to walk across Brooklyn bridge and get home I don't even know how because busses and trains were out.

I was in the eighth grade and we were in the middle of my french class when the teacher was pulled out suddenly and didn't come back for quite a while. We were acting like retards because we had no idea what was going on and had essentially the whole school to ourselves because all of the teachers had gone into the lounge to watch the live broadcast. Sometime latter the teacher came back with her face red from crying and attempted to explain what had happened but even at that age the significance of the event and how many lives were lost didn't really impact anyone. There was sort of a unanimous shrug amongst us that set the teacher off and she actually ended up going home because she was so distraught.

Within an hour the 5th - 8th graders were in the large gymnasium watching live footage while the teachers split the responsibility in the small gymnasium keeping the little ones occupied while the system scrambled to get us home because, even in Canada, the mood was too sombre to continue with day-to-day activities. I believe we were home by lunch that day. I ended up sitting there watching live coverage with my dad all day, his mouth agape.

I really wish I had been more mature, because I honestly regret my behaviour that day. Not that one can blame a child for being immature but just in retrospect, it was horribly dishonourable. Still, though, I do remember it being one of the most important days in the history of the west, just because of the way it impacted everything. I can't believe it's been 10 years though, especially in a world where even the largest disasters are forgotten quickly (does anyone remember the oil spill? No? Didn't think so. How about the earthquake in haiti? JAPAN? Everything is lost so quickly.)

I don't think that kind of stuff is easily forgotten. In Mexico we still remember the earthquake that destroyed our capital. or the 13th of september, which is a really sad national day. (I won't explain why, because it will be offensive to all in U.S.)

This kind of stuff will go into history, Japan earthquake just happened, and Haiti managed to recover pretty quickly from such event.

Now that I think about it, all countries somehow recover from this kind of tragedies rather quickly, but they are never forgotten.

All I remember was being in 3rd grade and the coming home and my mom crying. I had no idea what really happened, and then I pieced it together from the news I guess. Because of the way the media put it I hated muslims for the longest time.

I remember waking up at 7am to feed my son, who was born 2 months before, and watching The Today Show like I did/do every morning. I couldn't believe what I was seeing on tv and then I went into instant panic mode because shortly after they said something about a plane and the Pentagon. My heart sunk because my dad was in D.C for business at the company he use to work for, which was located down the street from the Pentagon. I tried calling him and couldn't get a hold of him. Called my mom to see if she had heard from him and she hadn't either. I immediately got the baby in the car and went to my moms and sat with her till we could find out if my dad was ok and where exactly he was. Got a hold of him about 5 hours later and he was safe.

For the rest of the day I just sat there and held my son and was so thankful for everyone in my life and what I had.

Say what? Muslim is a general name for a believer of Islam, regardless of where he lives. Denominations have other names:

On Topic: I was picking up my daughter from daycare and the DJ on the all-music radio station I listen to in my car said something like, "We're still all music here, but I suggest you tune to our sister station [news and talk], this is simply unbelievable." I didn't right then but I checked internet news once I got home. (Didn't put it on TV, didn't want my 5-year-old traumatized).

I remember my initial response, as an Israeli used to terrorist attacks, was something like, "I know everything is bigger in America, but this is ridiculous!"

A co-worker's brother was killed in one of the Twin Towers. Small world.

I don't remember a thing, strangely. My mom told me she and dad came to pick me up after it happened.

5th grade. Grandparents were supposed to fly that morning from Chicago to New Jersey. Because of fears the Sears Tower would be attacked and, well, because O'Hare is the largest airport in the world and no one exactly knew what the hell was going on, all flights were grounded.

For whatever reason our elementary school didn't tell us pomegranate, so I found out when I got home and was surprised to see my grandparents still there. Then I glanced at the T.V. and was filled in. Didn't impact me as much, like many, due to my age, but the memories are still there. My mother gets very emotional when she talks about it, though.

Must've been in 7th grade. Didn't find out about it until I came home after school. Wasn't directly affected by 9/11 in any way (besides the heightened national security concerns) so don't remember it too well.

If anybody has the chance, they just revealed the memorial built for those that crashed into the Pentagon (Flight 93) all over the news and Bush, Clinton, as well as Biden attended to honor those that were lost; I'd recommend watching it on some news site.

Obviously Obama couldn't attend because in light of the plans they've been receiving about another attack, he's probably being kept in isolation. Still great to see them remember each individual that was lost in that flight.

I remember pretending to shoot down airplanes during recess... It made a lot more sense when I got home and my parents explained the significance.

I still expect no one does anything stupid tomorrow. From lame internet trolls to actual threats. And Obama hiding isn't what I expected.

If U.S. knows of the warnings, have all their security measures taken already, and they still hide the president? :/

They have to hide the president. It's mandatory for his safety. During times like these when they've actually received actual "promises" from those who seek to avenge Osama, ALL safety measures must be taken, this includes the President and Vice-President being nowhere near each other. These policies have always been implemented.

I was thinking more over the fact that, well, hiding him like that won't make people feel safe. If I was in the U.S. and the president suddenly went into hiding..well, you get what I think.

Well, as long as they are ready for anything. :/

Was going to middle school during the time, but everyone was left in the dark, teachers didn't even talk about it, so no one even knew wtp was going on.

I was in fifth grade. Like most people, I can't say that I was too distraught over the news, or sad even. The gravity of the situation didn't hit me until years later. To this day when I think about it and all of the people that were affected by it, I still get saddened.
