I'm DLing Grief Syndrome now, looks really cool. Also, I didn't realize CROWSCLAW was releasing something new, thanks for the heads up.

The subbed version of the ufotable Touhou OVA
I've beaten Grief Syndrome twice already on First Lap (bascially, first run of the game. You unlock something called Second Lap where everything hits more damage and harder bosses) and played everyone.

Heads up to anyone interested in playing this game: Oktavia is a hidden boss. In order to do it, you need Sayaka to run out of Soul Limit. I believe you're supposed to do it on the very last level before you reach Walpurugis Night. I thought people were lying at first when I heard this, but it's apparently true when I tried it out myself.

My thoughts on the characters:
Kyouko- Totally OP. I wish she was more of an engaging character, but it'll do. She has insane DPS for bosses. Her specials are really strong and her pokes are okay- if you spam it enough, it does something where it clears a huge range and can hit fairly well vertically. You'll still be fairly safe if you're mashing buttons. Her special is meh, it's intended to keep you safe for a bit so you can spam safely and keep stuff off your tail. You don't really need it, though.
Homura- She does pretty good damage and has huge range. You'll have to actually aim, particularly when you're working with her up special. Grenade Launcher is nice and damaging- it can't hit really tiny enemies because of annoying hitboxes, so doll Charlotte and the mice in her level can't be hit with it unless you use it at point blank. Grenades are a nice attack too. Her super stops time, it's a really crazy ability. It's fairly costly, so if you want to use it, know what you're going to do and don't waste a precious second of the limited time you have of freezing everything.
Madoka- Huge soul limit. Most precise attacks and range, but low damage. She's interestingly the only character with only one special; and then have variations of her weak attack. Weak attack is three variations of the angle you shoot a bunch of arrows that you can charge up. Her special is a chargeable arrow that goes in a straight line and hits all the enemies in that line. That special is amazing if you charge it enough. High damage and good range. She's a character who plays really well with distance and one of the best spots to be is the edge of the map. Since you can attack and charge in midair, she'll be able to fight at various heights and do nicely.
Mami- She's crap in single player. People who really like Mami will be disappointed. She has potential for juggling and she seems like she's made for co-op. Low damage, but she's got a fairly good moveset for dealing with mobs, but it's not really good enough. She's got a really good super, but its really risky because it's costly and easy to interrupt. She'd be a nice character in co-op. Recommend only for the sake of trying her out, if you really like Mami, or if you want a challenge.
Sayaka- Sayaka has a great normal. At first, I thought it was weak, but it's really damaging. Her specials and super are pretty much for the movement. The super is a dash that'll let her cut across enemies and free herself from bad situations, costs very little. Her specials do fairly decent damage, and if you know how to work with her charged ones, she's easily the most mobile character in the game. Most of my time playing as Sayaka, I took very little damage.

I really liked everyone except Mami, Sayaka and Kyouko are the ones I like playing as the most.

It's a really nicely designed game. Nicely designed levels, good art, plays really nicely, and it creatively adapted Madoka.

Comiket 80 General - GMSInfighter - 2011-08-13

Homura is easily the best character. Obviously not biased though.

Played through the game 4 times already now and I just got it not too long ago xD It's really fun actually, for a quick side-scroll beat em' up. I really like Sayaka and Kyouko as well, but playing as Kyouko sucks cause she is definitely the broken character.

Second lap is difficult, was a b'itch fighting Walpurgis but managed.

-goes back to playing-

Comiket 80 General - xBTAx - 2011-08-13

Just played the first level as Homura. It was really fun, and I can definitely see myself playing co-op with friends as well.

But I am kinda sad that, as I expected, there is no netplay. :x

Comiket 80 General - GMSInfighter - 2011-08-13

No netplay is a bummer...

butterfλi Wrote:Btw, have you guys figured out the purpose of the laps? I just noticed that Walpurgis gets higher level... maybe some stages are mobbier.

Yes. Enemies do more damage, bosses get harder. This also makes it easier for you to level, since you fight high leveled enemies, but your bosses also increase in level.

I know someone on lap 26, lemme ask him how much harder it's gotten.

Also, I forgot by how much it's supposed to increase; a friend of mine said he guessed it squares itself and plus one, but I don't think that's the case. Multiplayer also affects how many laps you unlock when you beat the game.

EDIT: Stuff in Lap 5 hit 30-40 damage to him; in Lap 26, those same things dealt 130 or so. He was level 51 when he fought Walpurugis Night. His game now can go up to Lap 677. So yes, squared plus one is how it works.

EDIT 2: 1264 damage on the first hit in Lap 677....

EDIT 3: Forgot to answer this

Like Butterfli said, only local is available. If you wanna play local multiplayer, first change number of players in configuration in your folder. Should have a Kyubey icon. After that, push the normal attack button in character select.

I'm hearing rumors about a secret character in Grief Syndrome. Anybody know anything?

Comiket 80 General - Smooth Criminal - 2011-08-14

It's Oktavia. She's a secret boss that unlocks when you make Sayaka lose all of her soul limit (permanently kill Sayaka for the rest of your playthrough). I usually kill Sayaka off on Walpurugis's level. Her level is just the boss fight: no enemies, just a hallway that sends you into the fight.

I've fought her on First and Second Lap. What an absolutely frightening boss. She's level 35 on Second Lap. Came into her fight at level 28 and I lost because I wound up dying a number of times during the fight. The second time I came up to her, I grinded by redoing Elsa Maria's level and got to level 30 doing so; but I feel like I still probably would have won at level 28 because I simply know better now.

Age of Ethanols is out. Basically, Touhou Age of Empires.

Also, for Ougon Musoukyoku players:
Dlanor and Erika confirmed,

 Album Status

I meant a secret playable character. I already knew about Oktavia from what you said earlier.

And yeah, Dlanor and Erika confirmed for OMK is nice. :3
