Wow, at first I thought this was a real life murder, but it's just a game character. If you think about it, doesn't that mean we constantly have virtual suicide? :f6:

Maplestory in the news - RoxStarz - 2008-10-23

Well, the guy is pretty stupid to begin with. He told his virtual wife his username, password, date of birth, secret question, and whatever else Nexon asks for whenever you want to do anything on your account.

Also, I am pretty sure the character got deleted, this was a newspaper article geared towards the general populace, they wouldn't understand the nuances of "dying" and "deleting" as we would.

Maplestory in the news - aDudeInRed - 2008-10-23

I'm not sure that she's arrested for deleting the character, but instead she impersonated another person. i.e. Identity Theift. I guess Japan takes it serious when online Idenity is stolen. If you guys didn't know, United States has the same problem (card scanners, SSI, etc). It's just Japan takes it more serious.

Maplestory in the news - Cheez - 2008-10-23

The article speaks as if death is permanent.

Maplestory in the news - Fiel - 2008-10-23

If only Maplestory allowed hardcore characters.

Maplestory in the news - PKProStudio - 2008-10-23

Well it never said that she has his date of birth...

Maplestory in the news - ItachiPower - 2008-10-23

I thought the woman killed someone in rl.. o_o People these days take games to seriously.. Tongue

Maplestory in the news - Corn - 2008-10-23

This is so freaking hilarious...

I wonder what level was the husband.

Anyways, can you really get sent to jail just because you deleted a character..?

I suppose it could be possible, if they consider that a crime. I guess it would be similar to going into someone's home and destroying some of their property. (I would say "breaking into," but for all we know, the guy willingly gave her his password.) Maybe they gave you the key at some time, but you've now violated their trust and caused damage.

Even if the criminal charge doesn't stick, there's probably grounds for a civil suit. All of the money he spent on developing that character has now been wasted, not to mention the intangible things people sometimes sue for.

Lmao. what can I say, I bend reality to my whims.

It amuses me how people take the game that serious. It's just an e-divorce from a bunch of pixels. At least she didn't really murder him.

Maplestory in the news - JezzaRules - 2008-10-23

What I don't get is how she could 'kill' her husbands virtual character. Is it deleted, banned or just summon sacked to death?

Personally I reckon her vendetta is kinda lame :f6:. Killing another maplestory character over some divorce just sounds weird and amnbiguous :f6:. Still it's good thing she didn't kill her real husband otherwise the charges would be worse off as it is.

Well, she did go onto her husband's account. If she "killed" the character, then she probably suicided instead of summon sacked to death.

It's probably deletion, though. She probably knew his birthday, and it's extremely pathetic (not like this is already pathetic) to sue because you made your husband lose some percent...

Its not really hacking if she used the login info that he willingly told her o-o

Quote:The woman used login information she got from the 33-year-old office worker when their characters were happily married

How can they send her to jail for that? It's his own fault.

Maplestory in the news - Colyo - 2008-10-23

My god, its things like this that remind me there are people in this world far more incompotent than I, makes me feel like i'm part of the better half of this good earth.

Maplestory in the news - Worthyness - 2008-10-23

This story was made of Lulz xD

So the new term for Hacking is electronic data manipulation without consent of the owner...

That would be fun to use in a sentence.

ZOMG! He electronically manipulated my data without my consent! =P

Maplestory in the news - Horusmaster - 2008-10-23

EVen if it's delete, why can't they just ask nexon to do a rollback on that character, the data is probably still there.

it's not as if it's like death in RL that you can't reborn them...

I do wonder if the whole sex deal with cybering and Smegas occurs in the other versions of MS, because for some reason, I wouldn't picture JMS or KMS to be filled with people who let their hormones get to them in MS. :f6:

brb checking maya's house with mah slinger i'll fill you in hopefully i can find something out without being called a 外人 20 billion times

I don't actually recall NEXON even doing this, given how there's so many stories of people getting hacked, and yet NEXON doesn't do a thing to recover their lost items and such.

they could earn big cash though, selling a cash item call "undelete" at 50k or so
undelete will only work if your character was deleted within the last week.

i bet many ppl who got hacked will buy it.
