Yeah you can totally tell that from the 3 minutes of gameplay we've seen. Dark Link Wrote:He just described every RPG in itself :| Come now. Granted no game in the world offers real freedom, it is ever an illusion. But what RPGs normaly do (if they are any good) is offer a well made illusion of a vast world in which you are in different degrees free to explore. The latest FF fail miserably in that regard, and it is a valid concern towards the sequel. Calling every RPG ever made linnear when comparing the old classics with the new pomegranate they label RPG (like the latest FF) is just ignorant. It doesn't change the fact that you mostly press one button. Final Fantasy XIII-2 at E3 - CarrionCrow - 2011-06-08 Eriko Wrote:It doesn't change the fact that you mostly press one button. I was not focusing on the button comment since it is highly irrelevant, which ever stance you take about the FF series. Number of buttons used in a game is not a quality marker. Final Fantasy XIII-2 at E3 - Kalovale - 2011-06-08 Xenogears would've been the closest I've seen to having multiple buttons equally pressed. It happens to have been a great game, but that doesn't mean much. Judging by the comments in this thread, I do feel like giving it a try, though I didn't particularly enjoy anything from FFX onwards, I'm not so very inclined. The only criticisms I have for the game is similar; there's just nothing to do in the game besides run straight through it sans chapter 11 and 13. And by the time I did get to chapter 11 I was already stuck in "get to the exclamation mark" mode and I didn't even realize I could explore until chapter 13. Another thing was that it's impossible to go back to areas basically 90% of the game without starting a new game. It is such a shame because many of the areas are very nice to look at. But then again there's literally nothing to do in these areas so it's not worth the second play through. I didn't mind pressing x rapidly at all. However, I think if the gameplay was based on only the last 3 or 4 chapters, it would have been almost perfect. The pacing from chapters 1-9 was ridiculously slow. It would have done the story good if all the characters met up in the first 2 or 3 chapters instead of jumping around so much. Final Fantasy XIII-2 at E3 - ShinkuDragon - 2011-06-08 story-wise, the 1-9 chapters were pretty good, gameplay wise, they were utter garbage. the fighting system was ok-ish. as in it's the same as FF5 and so, but with a twist, so i can't really say much. but i swear, when i saw the vast plains in ch 11 i really went "finally" beautiful game from that point on. Final Fantasy XIII-2 at E3 - Sarah - 2011-06-08 gamespot Wrote:"Linear, linear, linear", says Motomu Toriyama. As director of Final Fantasy XIII, it's a word that wasn't even in his vocabulary until a whirlwind press tour that saw critics and fans constantly questioning the new direction for the series. It's a criticism that Toriyama and producer Yoshinori Kitase don't want repeated for the sequel Final Fantasy XIII-2. They've been working on a host of new gameplay mechanics for XIII-2, all intended to move the game from a "story-driven" experience, to a "player-driven" one. We got taste of these changes in our hands-on at E3, where we jumped back into the stunning world of Pulse, and got a glimpse of the new fully-armoured Lightning in action. Final Fantasy XIII-2 at E3 - Sarah - 2011-06-08 Final Fantasy XIII-2 at E3 - SixtySevenFrogs - 2011-06-08 yeah i read a hands on preview from kotaku and they said the same things as gamespot pretty much. like my previous post on the ff13 topic, it's likely that since with the sequel, you are no longer on the run from everything, it would make a lot of sense if there was some "hub" to fall back to to get new quests and upgrade and what not. that would be neat if they were to do that imo monsters gotta catch'em all |
