Summer and Fall 2011 courses - RideBMX - 2011-04-05

Tentative schedule for Fall 2011. My time assignment isn't until April 26, so something might change.

ARS105 - Intro to Drawing and Design I
CPS330 - Assembly Language and Computer Architecture
ECO206 - Principles of Microeconomics
EGC230 - Digital Logic Fundamentals
HIS207 - Medieval Europe

I might switch ECO206 with GER101 (Elementary German I) and get my foreign language requirement done over the next two semesters.

This is my hope at least.

Fall semester should be great. Senior year though. I could be direly underestimating things.

Tentative - Sign-up starts in a week
Energy Conversion & Power Electronics
MWF 3:00-3:50
Supposedly one of the worst classes you'll ever take as an EE

Ethics/Professionalism
W 1:50-2:40
I'll have to write stuff for the first time in two years

Electro-optics
TuTh 8:30am-9:50 lecture
Tu 3:00-5:50 lab
Lasers! Playing with lasers! Yes! One of the best 400-levels so say the guys I've talked to.

Computer Aided Manufacturing
TuTh 1:50-2:40 Lecture
Th 3:00-5:50 lab
I haven't heard any opinions on the class, but the lab looks like this:

Cool, right?

That puts me at 11 credits, and I need 12 to be a full time student. I'm thinking sailing will be a good filler credit.
Saturday and Sunday from 11am-2pm for the month of September.

The highlight is only having one class on Monday and Friday.

Not sure what my Spring will look like, but my capstone class guarantees it will not be pretty.

That's a weird schedule. Some sort of special medical program?

Summer and Fall 2011 courses - RahlsSoldier - 2011-04-05

Yeah, it is the first year for Medicine at my university. It goes from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm Monday to Friday, for the most part. The schedule is weird because it changes from day-to-day and week-to-week. We have labs all over the place and class times change based on the materials and what would make the most sense from a learning standpoint.

Does EE stand for Electrical Engineer? Your optics class looks interesting, but I don't think I'd have the ability to do something like that. Your labs also look a lot nicer than our engineering labs do. Where are you going that you have sailing as a course?

@Khoi: What do you mean by condensing down your classes? At my uni, we have four types of classes: One day classes (each lecture is two and a half hours long), two day classes (each are an hour and fifteen minutes long), three day classes (each lecture is 50 minutes long), and five day classes (which are remedial classes or special programs). Our labs aren't counted towards our total credits though, which really sucks. My second year fall term consisted of Organic Chem, Microbiology, Inorganic Chem, Biochemistry, Calculus and Concert Band. It was absolutely miserable because of the labs.

Ew. No credit for labs? Our labs are all scheduled for three hours and worth one credit, usually built in with a lecture. So my optics class is 4 credits, 3 for lecture and 1 for lab but it's all one grade. The scoring usually reflects that though, so my lab will probably be 25% of my course grade.

Do you have much work to do outside of class? 8:30-5:30 five days a week is a lot of time.

I'm at Michigan State University. We actually have two sailing classes. One on Lake Lansing, about 4 miles from campus. Decent size lake. Maybe half of a square mile or so. The other option is Great Lakes sailing, which has a few seminars then you spend a weekend on Lake Michigan. We have a lot of oddball 100 level Kinesiology classes people take to fill up a credit or two. I took Bowling II last semester and I might take Scuba diving next Spring. My Spring schedule's still undecided. I could either take a stats class, another electrical engineering class that has no lab, or figure out two bullshit one credit classes to take (the preferred option). We also have things like Kendo and Judo and more standard sports like tennis. We actually have a 400 level business course on golfing.

Our labs are indeed quite nice

Our labs are also three hour labs and generally account for 15-30% of a course grade, and are evaluated on a lab exam as well as lab reports.

As for work outside of class, yes. I expect to have 5+ hours of studying/homework to do each day if I get into that program. It is a strenuous program, but they have a lot of support for the students and try to help you along as much as possible.

Wow, you have a lot of options for classes on physical activity. We don't have anything like that here. We have seminars and instructional classes that don't count for credit and have a cost associated with them. I'd recommend scuba diving though, it is awesome!

Our labs aren't nearly as nice for most undergrad degrees. For the Med program we do have some nicer things, but I don't have any pictures of them.

Change of plans. As cool as that Computer Aided Manufacturing lab looks, it's taught by the same god-awful professor I have for Digital Control right now. Not willing to put myself through that again. And the prelabs supposedly take 4-6 hours a week. Radio Frequency circuits instead. MWF 9:10am :<

The classes at my university are either:

a) 50 minutes
b) 3 hours
c) 4 hours (this is the most I've seen so far)

When I said condensing, I should have worded it differently, but what I meant was that I was trying to put most of my classes in a single day. That way, I wouldn't have to go back to the campus 4-5 times a week, because I'm trying to conserve on gas, and make good use of my hours too. I need time to go to work, though work is faaaaar from being a priority. I just have to work so I can pay for gas to drive to uni, etc. If you noticed, with how I am about to plan things, I have 4 classes in a single day, from near noon until late at night. I do this so I keep myself extremely focused, and won't skip any classes (even if I feel like I want to, this'll decrease that chance). I like putting most of my classes in 2-3 days, I just feel like I can keep up with it better than 3-4 days. Those are more annoying for me to go through.
