How do you guys feel about the new defense/survivability system? - Dark Link - 2011-02-21 Jackie Wrote:Where's the options for "Makes the game more broken / a joke now" O.o You mean the potential system? The new defense system hardly broke the game in comparison to potential system and other things that affected the game far more. How do you guys feel about the new defense/survivability system? - SolicShooter - 2011-02-21 I actually preferred it the old way. I died a few times just because I didn't have to watch the hp bar as anxiously as pre-big bang. When you die in 2 hits you watch when you get hit, and you just have to pot after every hit. if you're getting like 10 hitted then you won't pot that quickly. How do you guys feel about the new defense/survivability system? - Satellite - 2011-02-21 The whole idea of 100% avoidability is ridiculous. Cough db cough How do you guys feel about the new defense/survivability system? - Even - 2011-02-21 I like this change but the 5% miss chance per lvl is annoying as hell, especially if you play an aran who tend to grind on high lvl mobs at low lvl. But knockback dmg on mobs need to be fixed, arans smart knockback skill is useless for the moment. How do you guys feel about the new defense/survivability system? - IllegallySane - 2011-02-21 A good point is raised (which I forgot to include in main post). Come Chaos patch, those 2,000/4,000 HP pots that last for 2 hours will make surviving hits for a ranged class even better. yo72 Wrote:I kinda miss dieng in 2 hits on my nl made you think twice before you fjed or avengered and when you got a miss on a hit that would kill you it gets your heart pumping Sorry, but I don't want my heart pumping on overdrive for hours. If I want to play a game where one or two hits mean death I'd play Mario or Gradius. Jackie Wrote:Where's the options for "Makes the game more broken / a joke now" O.o Under "too easy now". ¬Rob Wrote:This. I miss the feel of nearly dying, only surviving by scoring a MISS and such. More survivability is nice, but they kinda made it too easy. s: Probably not. It may have been due to potential system, but the last time I saw an LHC video I saw a Night Lord only take ~1.9k from the backwards riding polar bear with a mace. How do you guys feel about the new defense/survivability system? - Valon - 2011-02-22 If anything the defense system was just a pat on the back to Thieves that got taken from behind when avoidability stopped having any effect at all. I went from taking maybe 1/15 hits from bosses like zak and bigfoot, to 1/2. The new system just decreased the damage those hits did by 10% or so. Simply backing up all the brute force classes, and making it easier to rush blindly into a giant mob. Thieves have to think a little more before they go FJing around like we tend to do so obnoxiously I miss the avoid system but I certainly am not complaining, now that im maxing energize on my BaM and seeing exactly how effective defense is. Just sucks going from 999 avoid and soloing dojo without a scratch, to 4400 avoid and snails hitting you constantly. Not sure how I prefer it
How do you guys feel about the new defense/survivability system? - OB3LISK - 2011-02-22 Who cares if at your training spots you take a little less damage and can afford your pots better. When they make it so that defense can nullify Hp washing on high leveled boss runs then I'll be impressed. How do you guys feel about the new defense/survivability system? - Dusk - 2011-02-22 It didn't at all fix what's wrong with Maple's combat system. Get hit, pot, get hit, pot. Except for damage reflect and poison which ignore the minimum delay between hits. They could really revamp their system of damage... Make it so it's not the same thing to fight 1 monster or 6 monsters. They've probably gone too far down this path to change it, but I would definitely like to see a huge overhaul of the system if they ever make a MapleStory 2. I'm all for uniqueness in games but Maple needs to be a bit more like every other game and not have a system in place where bosses constantly blast you to 1 HP only to have their efforts rendered worthless half a second later when you heal to full HP. It makes it impossible to build support classes, it makes it so that the only way for bosses to be threatening is to spam map-wide curses and nukes, it forces them to invent god awful mechanics like DR and Zombify...it's just plain terrible. If they ever actually get far with this 'Maplestory 2,' then I really hope it gets a new combat system or something. The current one just sucks. Bossing is more of a grind than anything else, really. How do you guys feel about the new defense/survivability system? - Takebacker - 2011-02-22 I used to die a lot less due to the obvious invincibility frames, but pre-BB there was a lot more things that could easily OHKO me even with 10k base. Now that can't really happen however the increased frequency of damage took a lot to get used to. I don't know how much defense has to do with it so much as adjusted monster stats. I think i can survive a lot more now after getting used to things, but i'll have to see how van leon fights to really test survivability. How do you guys feel about the new defense/survivability system? - Valon - 2011-02-22 Actually, it seems like a fun way to revamp the boss battles would be to add more deadly, dodgeable attacks. Example being constant spells like pianus/snack machines death beam, or MDT style missiles. Make these give status effects such as seduce or stun, make them frequent, and especially give them the ability to dispell. You wouldn't necessarily die alot, but it would require you to move and dodge in order to kill the boss in a decent ammount of time. Or even bosses like Geist rog where they teleport/fly around a JQ so you have to really put some effort into it. Keep players on their toes and make the battle fun. More like punish any class with slow as hell attacks/long chain combos with no invincibility frames or classes with big hit boxes. (current evans, battle mages, perhaps DrKs, WHs, mechs, corsairs) Depends on the attack/boss really. How do you guys feel about the new defense/survivability system? - Valon - 2011-02-22 Not saying it'd be a simple thing to balance, but even a boss with low damage that casts GSPQ boss' potion nullifying skill would make boss battles much scarier How do you guys feel about the new defense/survivability system? - Bomber - 2011-02-22 Valon Wrote:Actually, it seems like a fun way to revamp the boss battles would be to add more deadly, dodgeable attacks. If I was a maker, I would try to make it so this tactic wouldn't lock you in an endless rift of debuffs and dispells. Maybe stun you then punch normal attack and disappear for a bunch of minions attack, I dunno. But just not endless lock like MSea's origional targa: you get spam locked for what could be 5 minutes+ |
