Base DEX - Beserker101 - 2008-07-07
My white knight has 90 base DEX (pathetically) but it is like 2 and a half years old. My currently being used fighter has 30 base DEX and I kinda wish it was lower. I'll probably start a page eventually and give it a lower base DEX, maybe like 10 or 15.

Honestly, with the new equip options nowadays, being completely dexless isn't nearly as hard as it was before. I created my hero in the era where being dexless was blasphemy, that was a sin's job, so as such, I had 80 base dex. What I did was save up my NX until they had the sale on the AP resets. By the time the sale came around, I was able to afford 40 resets, (around $60?) and so now my base dex is 40. Though, I still consider it too high.. especially with a scrolled HT necklace.. >.> Oh well.
Anyway, you can do that if you have the ability, if not, it's really not that big of a deal until the higher levels. You can try and scroll an awesome str overall and show those dexless warriors who's boss. =P

As a 35 dex warrior I've considered scrolling a str/dex mix overall, lack of 60%s is throwing me off though, I do not want to get 3/4 done and break it (I have a 5/14/7, 8 slot Empress, which would be decent 60%'d @ around 15 str 14 dex 7 acc)
I'm doubting the chances of me ever getting a HT necklace, Paladins are just not the right class for Horntail and I'm not likely to hit 18x+ any time this decade.
I've just kinda stopped worrying about dex onto my gear since it's a big step up from dex overall at this point, but I might get into it now that I can step off a str+dex overall instead of resetting base dex, and also things like face accessories are coming into play which don't have to replace my existing gear.
I worked hard to keep my low dex - I used a dex glove for near 70 levels, and trained at Dual Pirates into my 11x. Feels a bit off to me that people can just reset it down and get the advantage without the struggles. Oh well.

Really though, if you want to get the maximum potential out of your character, reset dex. But only if you really want to / can afford it.

Yeah, if I ever get my hands on an unbeatable weapon (+7 30% Morningstar, etc.) then I'll consider it, right now it's much more affordable to upgrade my other gear for atk/str.

True. But even before that; you can always buy NX from friends. The 25k : 50m ratio I usually buy for is pretty much ~7 STR for 50m, right now that's the cheapest possible upgrade for me considering I'm near my end-game equips already.

In beta 100 base dex was average so when I had to start over on GMS you can guess my base dex became 100 again. Over some time I found out about you could get lower base dex and get accuracy from equips I didnt reset all at once just a few points every few months but now I'm at 4 base dex. If I where you I'd probably reset the way I did but that also depends on how much money you got to spend. Also there wasnt MTS when I did it so that might make things easier too.

eh, my DK was started within two minutes of Mardia opening, and I didn't think i was going to be able to manage incredibly low base dex, so i had raised it to 29 by the time i quit at 26. then i quit it for a bandit.
when i came back to it, i reset all the dex. it was -definitely- worth it.

I got 30 base dex on my level 66 speargirl. I don't regret not going complete dexless though, since I'm usually poor.

I would reset it or restart. No point in training to make yourself stronger when your biggest weakness lies in your base stats. I started out with 15 DEX, doubting I would be able to manage it, but fortunately always got the appropriate gear and never had to raise past it. I reset to 12 awhile ago, and still have some extra accuracy. I don't understand why people put so much into it, I have a few decent pieces of equipment and the rest crap (not a merchant or meso buyer), and I've never encountered any problems involving missing.

Why? I thought the point of maple is to reach level 200, not to extract every last bit of damage you can from your stats
It doesn't matter if you hit less than someone with lower dex than you if you still kill what you train on in the same number of hits as them
Of course, if it takes you 1 or more hits than someone else, THEN there's room for improvement

My Page has a whopping 70 DEX, as well as max HP recovery. Made him at the launch of Broa, using a money-saving build. Never thought I'd get him to level 63.
My Spearman has 40 base DEX at the moment, and I may drop a few points if I can get some decently scrolled equips. I have a 6 STR clean dark crusader chainmail that I got from a friend, but I don't have the funds to scroll it currently.

70 dex at level 63? You should be fine if you just keep it at that. My girlfriend DK has 70 dex D:

The point of Maple Story is to simply have fun, considering it's a videogame, so I wouldn't say it has a specific point, as people enjoy doing different things. Considering he's only level 120, I figured he didn't train often enough to play for the purpose of getting to the max level or for ranks, but maybe I'm wrong and he made his character a month ago or something. Most people just do the best they can manage, which usually involves trying to optimize equipment/stats and increase exp rate (which, fyi, will allow you to get to 200 faster) as much as possible. I mean, why else would he make the topic if he wasn't concerned with his stats?

You vastly underestimate the power of an additional 40 STR.

As a BW WK, there's a very large opportunity for that kind of thing. I currently kill Blue Wyverns in 3~10 hits or so, any extra str/atk helps reduce the chance of the higher numbers.
On stuff with lower hp (eg. Dual Pirates - I 2-5 hit KO them) it would take a lot more to improve - I'd need ~28 w.atk to get my max down to 4 hits. Extra damage still helps my chances of doing those 2-4 hit KOs, though.

If you really care a whole lot about damage or if you are super weak I suggest you lower it, but if you just want to play and screw what other people think you could use the money to buy something else.

I'm not even bothering with my Page any longer. I'd gladly transfer him over to Scania, however, Nexon seems to think I've been banned, though I'm certain I never have. The only response I got from them was "We are aware of this bug are are currently working to correct it." Or something of that nature.
But yeah, screw my Page.
