It can lead to awkward situations. My roommate for this semester is from Zimbabwe. He has made a number of friends that also came from Zim to the same school. I'll say hi and make some simple discussion, but our dorms are just one room that we share. They're alright guys and friendly, but not really the people I would be hanging out on a regular basis.
