And the console was STILL cheaper than the 3DS back in those 4 years.

I have never seen a single case were extremely gimmicky 3-D made any form of entertainment any better.
Edit: I almost forgot, I've heard that the 3-D effects can hurt your eyes. So I'm definitly going to wait for people to waste their money and see if they damage their eye-sight before I consider buying one.

And something is wrong when the Wii, which is a superior system with a good gaming library, is far cheaper.

Who said the 3D was going to be gimmicky, though? Sure, that's the route I expect most 3rd party casual games to take, but several reports on demos have said that they're actually trying to add depth (SSFIV is one I remember off the top of my head).

And uh... 4 days after my birthday. So I'm set. I just wish some better games were coming out at launch, since I won't be able to afford any more for a while after. Looks like I'll be getting SSFIV and maybe Nintendogs+Cats.

(...for those who care, the 3 N+C games (in Japan at least) are Toy Poodle & New Friends, French Bulldog & New Friends, and Shiba & New Friends. Apparently the Shiba version was changed to Lab & Friends for the US for the original, so I expect the same to happen here.)

ITT: People failing to remember the 3D can be turned off with the flick of a switch on the side of the screen.

That and this system will have Paper Mario and MGS3, I'm sold.

And the PSP can continue to suck it. My only concern is will the shoulder buttons can last longer than the DS/Lite ones? It's a little problematic when after about a year that the shoulder buttons start giving out. D:<

Hey man, this one article I read a while back said the 3DS 3D will not damage your eyes at all compared to other versions of 3D.

Too bad I can't buy one. I gotta save for college and every cent counts.

@ Everybody: Let's look at the name, shall we? 3DS. 3D...S. It has 3D!!! Of course it's gonna be expensive, plus I heard it comes with a lot accessories and cool built-in functions.

EDIT: Yup, it can do some pretty cool stuff.

Two-hundred and forty nine US dollars - Holypie - 2011-01-19

That extra dimension costs a lot you know, next thing will be the Nintendo 3Wii =O

Two-hundred and forty nine US dollars - Random_Overlord - 2011-01-19

Can't wait for 4DS..

DRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUG TRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIP THROUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGH TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIME!!!!!

Two-hundred and forty nine US dollars - Khoi - 2011-01-19

Or actually, why not wait til both the PSP2 and 3DS are on the market? That way, we'll see actual competition, and prices might have a chance to fluctuate on either sides. This can be advantageous to a lot of people (or not, depending on how you spend your money and how your tastes in game genres varies from one another).

Turning off the 3D defeats the purpose of even having a 3DS

Not buying one until I find it at a pawn shop for half the price.

Well, they did say that it was going to be slightly more expensive than the current DS. So I was expecting something around 250$. Still, gotta remember you're paying for a new processor, a dual layered screen, and the built in software. I'm pretty sure the original DS was around this pricepoint (or maybe it was because I lived in Quebec with its ridiculous taxes, 13% really burns the wallet)

Quebec does have ridiculous taxes, so I agree with that. >_>; ; ; It was probably because you bought it in Quebec, everything is expensive there. I think I bought a belt for around 20-30 USD? I forgot. I'm into fashion though, so it was worth it, belt was pretty cool.

Two-hundred and forty nine US dollars - Smooth Criminal - 2011-01-19

Honestly, it pains me to say this, but it looks like I'll have to wait for my wallet to magically fill up again; which'll be a while from then. Besides that, most of the first party games that I really want and know I'll love to death aren't exactly in the clear for being released upon launch of the 3DS, so I guess I could wait.

Two-hundred and forty nine US dollars - Kunagisa - 2011-01-19

I can't wait to buy this and pirate my games to make up for the high price. Assuming the news about hackers already cracking beta (that's what brings my hopes down) models and plan on releasing homebrew on day 1 is true.

I'll still buy games from publishers I'd like to give my money to though, just like I did with the DS.
