Final Fantasy XIII Not Quite The Final Fantasy? - Ryukiroku - 2011-01-14

They've had the sequels for 13 announced for awhile now. I just recently got 13 and played it up to Oerba and I just have to say that I love this game. I don't think I've played a Final Fantasy I hated though or at least in the main series of games.

Jamie_Kurosawa Wrote:IMO 1, 4, 6, 7, 10, and 10-2 were the best the series offered as far as quality story, game play, and being true to the brand could be done.

(as for 7, what happened down in the forgotten city ruins is STILL talked about to this day as being to most remembered climax ever placed in a game).

I'll list my gripes on the rest (agree or disagree if needed):

FF2 - No real EXP/Level system that made the game next to unplayable later on if you didn't fight correctly.
FF3 - (aside limited availability) Poor Job changing system and lack of direction.
FF5 - Extremely hard monsters, bosses, and even special area enemies made the game a drag out. Great story however but it wasn't enough.
FF8 - Magic system was tedious and annoying at times, confusing, and enemies always matching your levels in the overworld... err... no.
FF9 - Too cartoony, too outlandish, tried to imitate 7 and utterly failed.
FF11 - Not a fan of these kind of MMOs and pay-to-play wasn't a huge turn on with me.
FF12 - Seriously are the guy characters that into their looks? Game was confusing and storyline was less than desirable.
FF13 - Lightning... she's very man-ish... and the non-controlled gameplay for MOST of the game... err... I'm sorry, but no.

7- Dirge of Cerebus was different enough that I won't list it here. And it was quite good.

looooooooooooooooool

Those arent sequels, those are companion games. They were announced along with FF13.

Eh...I figured it was like how X-2 was to X or something. Good either way.

How about FF implement a game with both good gameplay and graphics =D?

...it's not like that's impossible...

It'd be possible. If Square didn't fire the majority of their storyline department.

Saw this the other day... I got to the... plains? in FF13 in September; haven't had time to play since. Need to finish it soon.

FF1 - Never played it
FF2- Never played it
FF3- Never played it
FF4- have almost all the remakes and the original ~ ^-^ My favorite FF game
- Final fantasy Mystic quest: Pretty good until you can 1hko the final boss with a healing spell. o-o
FF5- Copycat of 4, have the remake for the ps1, too basic.
FF6- Really awesome, has a consiquence system early on and the second half of the game can be totaly different.
FF7- Boring, too confusing, dragged on about emo stuff.
FF8- Decent mind bending plot, the battle system is unique, but it causes GF's to be relied on too much.
FF9- Second favortie, decent plot, funny in many parts, and all the characters were unique.
FF10- Gay
FF11- Didn't want to play a p2p final fantasy
FF12- Enjoyed up to a point where you'd be spamming Scathe every 3 seconds.
FF13- Didn't bother, have had my lil bro play it and tell me it sucked too much.

FF1 - Original NES and PSOne Origins releases. Beat both versions, never used strategy guide and only missed out on WarMech which wasn't much after I found him.
FF2 - Emulator and Origins. Played it, never finished. Got annoying trying to keep characters properly trained.
FF3 - Emulator only. Got half-way through from guidebook I originally downloaded. Got confusing with Job switching.
FF4 - SNES and PSOne Chronicles. Played it, beat it, no book used, but learned some info from friend who found the best gear in the game and found Pink Puff numerous times.
FF5 - Anthology version. Got up to final area and got murdered by Shin-Ryu, managed to beat X-Death though. Had to use book after getting to the Locked Fortress/Ancient Castle.
FF6 - SNES and Anthology versions. Played it, beat it, found everything without the book. Only used book afterwards for references.
FF7 - Played it but used the VS Books strategy guide after warning by friend over blasphemous Brady Games book. Never was told why until I got past the "incident".
FF8 - Got to 2nd continent, got bored, and it's still sitting on my shelf.
FF9 - Got through the petrifying woods, was unimpressed with game being lame, and on the shelf it went.
FFX - Played it, beat it, found everything. Unlocked everything in Monster Colosseum, rebuilt Sphere Grid for 99999 HP, 255 all stats, only got MP to about 4500 average, got all Summons and maxed them out, built custom weapons equal to Super Weapons (was not about to attempt soem of them as being to tedious) and destroyed Paradox after 5 attempts.
FFX-2 - Played it, beat it, still play it. Still haven't found everything and I'm still working on Bevelle Dungeon (have gotten as far as Basement 65) I did manage to beat those random bosses and got the Finale casting thingy...
FF11 - I don't pay to play.
FF12 - Played it, took it back for refund/store credit. Was horrible.
FF13 - Played it, wasn't liking the lack of exploration for 15 straight hours. Seriously, it's like a movie. Still debating on if Lightning is actually a girl.

That's like...the first "dungeon" in the game. =.=

It gets better later on, trust me. Especially lolIpsen'sCastle.

Funny I hear the same speculation about you constantly as often as you fall back on your gender as a defense.
PS, Women's Lib called, they're disowning you.

ITT People who haven't played FF13 say it sucks.

Wonderful.

It wasn't a bad game, but 15 hours of completed guides game play gets tiring. Even most Final Fantasy's before it allowed some freedom of movement to a point.

I never supported or claimed Women's Lib...

As much as I like FFIX, I wouldn't say it gets particularly amazing or anything. The storyline and music are nice, but that's about it. Trying to "return to its roots" (as the art style suggests) screwed it pretty badly in terms of graphics (the cutscenes are awesome though). The combat system isn't particularly stellar or anything, really.

Equip Vivi with Auto-Reflect and Reflectx2 and make him cast the strongest spell he has on himself to own pretty much any opponent.
Make Steiner spam Shock.
Make Zidane steal a lot throughout the game so you can spam Thievery later for max damage every time.
Teach Quina Lv5 Death, then use it to kill Grand Dragons instantly over and over with Freya in the team so she can spam Dragon Crest for max damage later.
Bore yourself to death catching lots of Frogs so Quina's Frog Drop does max damage later.
Put Eiko in your party for tough fights and ensure she has Phoenix. Don't use any Phoenix Pinions during the game to increase the chances of auto-summoning Phoenix when you get wiped. Make sure Eiko has Full-Life as well.

Oh yeah, and the Lv5 Death on Grand Dragons thing can be used for power-levelling characters...

That's all you need to win any fight. Except for Ozma, where you need a fair bit of luck as well.

Final Fantasy XIII Not Quite The Final Fantasy? - Random_Overlord - 2011-01-18

I never really had to fight loads of grand dragons to get to level 99.

Just get 3/4 part members infliced with curse and head into the behemoth area of Memoria so that the one without curse can get loads of experience per battle.

Plus all you gotta do during ozma is get Amarant to make Ozma weak against Darkness, equip everyone with pumice & shadow null/absorb gear.

Get vivi to spam doomsday, while ozma spams doomsday,

Make sure you have Garnet spam Curaga every chance you get

Get Amarant to spam either wing edges or No mercy

Get Zidane to steal all of Ozma's crap then spam Theivery

Also have Auto-life equiped and your good to go.
