Dev Blog -- Player Questions - Jamie_Kurosawa - 2010-12-16

It's a shame Nexon can't gather the courage and reach out to their communities for ideas on content, even existing areas.

VineLand (containing the plant people who attacked CWK), Old Sapp Village (buried under Bigger Ben), Naricain (as a boss like Zakum) etc. could all still be added to Masteria. Why they haven't been added yet is completely illogical. They have a set script for those areas, just follow the script, show some creativity, and add them in.

Nexon also has so much un-added/un-used World Tour areas, events, quests, etc. Why not just reach down into the old bucket of ideas and instead of playing pick and choose, just go ahead and add everything they have one place and thing at a time, even if some areas are redundant?

It's because they DON'T CARE!!!

As far as they're concerned, North America is thier cash cow, they can add as little as they want, they can wash down content as much as they like and tie a pretty bow around it and they'll make millions off it for sure.

...and the mindless masses will cheer, applaud, and beg for more stuff of that nature.

It's a shame the player base Nexon has consists of a lot of people who have no idea or clue about what would really be beneficial to MapleStory to increase it's lifespan without having to redo everything ever 5 years just to keep the cash cow alive and mooing, trash the player base, and alienate practically half the population.

Seriously, there are other options...

And the best one comes from a song by a band I like...

Come Original by 311

Nexon needs to have some originality with GlobalMS to make it stay alive, keep people here, and bring people back even more so than what Big Bang did. If they'd have original content, uniqueness, and show some creativity, MapleStory could very well last as an online game for at least the next 10 years estimated.

Had to add this separately:

Here's a good example of original ideas:

World Tour: U.S.A.

This isn't Masteria, but an entire area like Victoria Island if not the size of, consisting of several towns themed after major US Cities...

New York
Las Vegas
Miami
Los Angeles
Washington, D.C.

Between the towns could be areas for training featuring wildlife of the U.S. regions, scenery, etc. and quests could involve helping out local NPCs perform actions, have some PQs, and do other nice stuff...

Ideas for New York:

Times Square Market Place
Central Park
Coney Island
Statue of Liberty

Ideas for Las Vegas:

CSI Headquarters
The Strip
Area 51
The Mojave Desert

Ideas for Miami:

The Key Islands
South Beach
Downtown Miami

Ideas for Los Angeles:

Farmer's Market
Hollywood
The Walk of Fame
The Chinese Theater
Long Beach Marina

Ideas for Washington, D.C.:

The White House
Library of Congress
Capitol Hill
Arlington National Cemetery
The Supreme Court

Seriously, those ideas took less than 10 minutes to think about and about 5 to draft up... now how come Nexon can't do that and place some developers creating areas , coming up with mobs, etc. If I can do they, they can do it, but much better and with more people...

Well, at least it's nice that they're trying to communicate with us more. They could have picked more than 2 questions. Last one doesn't count, we don't need their dumb advertisement in the middle of a Q&A session.

Too true.

When was the last time Nexon America thought of any original content? the only things i can think that Nexon America have added on their own merit in the years since Masteria are various overpowered items.

I want something new and unique. Copypasta from Korea isn't all bad, but they need to stop being lazy and actually be game developers, not just get given code and then applying it to some servers.

Seriously... that "One Person" who left Nexon was probably the only competent developer, and since then Nexon has been rolling around in their money and not caring about thinking up new ideas.

Visitor Event.

I'm pretty sure that was originally in Taiwan(?) Maple. Nexon America DID change it around though, which is a step in the right direction.

Not exactly. Nexon America claimed they worked on it for months. THMS never did a counter claim or said they made the event. So until something else comes up Nexon America made the Visitor Event.

It would've been better to answer some of the questions asked in the forums since big bang. You know, questions that actually have an impact on people playing the game.

That's how most interviews are. The interviewee (nexon in this case) will either hand pick questions, hand pick the interviewer, or manipulate the situation in which the questions are being asked. They do this, because they need to appear perfect, and dissenting opinions will show that they are imperfect.

And regarding the Visitor Event, I think I'll take nexon's word with a grain of salt, especially when their mouthpieces (like Hime) are well known for lies and misleading people.

Dont they shoot you if you get within 20 miles or so of that place? well, if you dont mind, I'd like to also add places like Plum Island to that World Tour area too.

Yes, that is true of course. But in the case of the Visitor Event the Word of God is to be trusted over the assumptions of the populace.

That is why I said until something else comes up Nexon America is the creator of the event since they claimed it and no one else did.

But you could always take the middle ground and say GMS and THMS worked together on it. After all a little after NexonNA said the Visitor Event would be in Tespia THMS said they would be releasing it in the official server.

It's one thing to make up ideas and another to put it into action entirely.

Perhaps they may have godlike authority within the game, but outside the game they are nothing but mortals.
And I dont believe anyone's word should just be taken as fact. I believe that nexon should prove or at least show evidence that they designed the event. I also have to point out that, although it is not proof, the fact that TMS implemented the event before GMS is evidence that TMS produced the content. I'd also like to point out the fact that the GMS development team attempted to make it look like they took part in developing key parts of the big bang (like the exp curve), but that was clearly developed by KMS.

And I just remembered something, didnt we get into the Iraq War simply because the government said Iraq had weapons of mass destruction regardless of the UN inspectors finding none? While a little off topic, I think situations like this one justify being skeptical of things people say, and why it is a bad thing to simply accept a "word of god" as fact.

Im interested to find out what that 'big event' will be.

Let's hope it's not a lame as the visitor event.

Overall, the questions were kinda dumb, specially the last one...

and a big event....

"Big event" in Nexon's book is always either a event that costs you loads of nx to gamble away at a prize that's too good to be true like the dragonlord's event, or something to do with cody/gaga's mental health problems.
