I find this extremely funny. Joel Tenenbaum, a 25 year old graduate student at Boston University pursuing a physics PhD is in a court case against the RIAA. They want $675,000 for the 30 songs he downloaded. What a load of crap. In the case, he openly admits to downloading and sharing the 30 songs but he is standing his ground over the nonsense of a over half a million settlement. That's fucking stupid.
Just look at this. I think that's pretty funny.

I download both music and movies. Why would I pay for something that's sitting right in front of me? As long as you're not retarded, know where to download from, and know how to keep your IP address private, then you have nothing to lose.
My taste in music wouldn't be what it is now if I was some moralf'ag who actually felt that artists and actors deserve every bit of money they get. Nobody here can afford to pay thousands of dollars for thousands of songs, and if you could, why on earth would you?

To note, mp3s and ipods are built to hold thousands of hours of music, which is pretty much acknowledging that nearly everyone purchasing one has access to large volumes of music. Considering their consumer base is generally teens/young adults, 99.9% of whom do not have the money required to purchase said large volumes, nor would even the most popular of them have enough friends pooled together for them to all share music and fill said ipod (same goes for video, to a slightly lesser extent), they pretty much acknowledge "Here, extra space to store your ill-gotten gains." Giving something with even 20 gigs of storage is just begging for people to put something illegal on it just to feel like they aren't wasting that space.

I don't care about downloading music, especially since it's just available for free online anyway. There's no point in it really being called illegal, it's practically already free. Selling it for profit's still wrong, because odds are those poor people don't know they can just listen to it for free.
Movies however, cost a whole hell of a lot more money to make and, in fact, aren't quite as free elsewhere. I'm gonna say, buy them or watch them in the theater.

I get what you're saying and I agree, but using P2P programs to download and share music/files will always be illegal unless something is changed.

I download music~ although I only have 270ish songs in my library total, and that's lasted me maybe 3 years now.
I don't, however, understand the warped self-righteous sense of entitlement prevalent among my peers with regards to downloading stuff. That attitude is one of the three things in the world that can make me angry. :3

I'm very selective for music I listen to, really only listening to about twelve artists. I only download the albums if I can find good quality (and only flac, ogg, or mp3) or if I really want it. I still get CD's for my most preferred artists if I have money and they're in stock so I can be sure to always have a copy and get it in flac format. There's just something about having it in a little case that makes me feel good...
I don't download movies (even though I use Vuze...I need a different client). I don't even watch movies unless it's on TV or someone else puts it on. Pineapple, movies? Most of the stuff I watch is the Science Channel and USA Network.

Eh, I read mangas online, but only because theres no point being x amount of weeks behind the japanese releases, if its a series i'm reading, I make a point of purchasing it the moment it's localized into the UK, same with anime, and having a crunchyroll subscription is a decent way around this anyway. As for games, only thing I've ever illegally downloaded are the touhou series, 1) because they aren't worth the price that importers charge and 2) if they don't want to make a point of making it accessible to people outside of japan, I'll make a point of keeping my money.
If the companies refuse to release something in the UK, I generally refuse to give them my money [seriously funimation, why haven't we got one piece or higurashi released here yet?] I can't believe its incredibly hard to copy paste the american dvds over to release here in PAL format.

This, just like games. Or just GameStop. (Used games are cheap, but these days...-pirates-) I mean, back then when disgaea was rare, the situation would be like.... "Do I really want to spend 60 bucks on this?" or "I'll never be able to afford that..." That and importing JPN exclusives like the PS2 tales titles seems ridiculous.
