Southperry Stepmania meetups - gauging interest - Spaz - 2009-06-09 Ok, so it looks like a decent amount of people would play keyboard, but not so for pad (sorry Throws). Many of the songs I plan on doing at first are actually pad files (because no one makes keyboard files for beginners), so at least for the first meeting, you can probably use a pad if you want. How does this Saturday, 7:30 pm EST work for everyone? These packs will be required at the first meeting: In the Groove 1 KoMmunity Keyboard Pack V1 (a pack made up of songs from other packs put together by FallenMemory for KoM SM players) Touhou And here's a list of packs that I like that are NOT required for the meetup if you're looking for more: Keyboard: In the Groove 1 (beginner-light intermediate) In the Groove 2 (beginner-light intermediate) DDR packs (beginner) KoMmunity Keyboard Pack V1 (beginner-light intermediate) Touhou Pad Pack (beginner-light intermediate) Super Simfile Song Pack (beginner-intermediate) Community Keyboard MegaPack 1 (intermediate) F4 (intermediate) Skor's Selection of High Quality Simfiles (intermediate) Community Keyboard MegaPack 2 (intermediate-expert) F5 (intermediate-expert) Touhou (beginner-expert) Touhou Project (expert) Pad: DDR packs (beginner-expert) In the Groove 1 (beginner-expert) In the Groove 2 (beginner-expert, only about 25% of the songs have easier difficulties) KoMmunity Keyboard Pack V1 (beginner-expert) Touhou Pad Pack (beginner-expert) Southperry Stepmania meetups - gauging interest - Rob - 2009-06-09 could be. does SM consume a lot of bandwith? Cuz my connection sucks. Oh, and which SM is better for these cases? v3.95 or v4.0? Southperry Stepmania meetups - gauging interest - FallenMemory - 2009-06-09 Wish I could make it Spaz but I gotta work. GL though. =) Southperry Stepmania meetups - gauging interest - Heidi - 2009-06-09 I'm totally cool with that time One thing though... I have never heard of the Touhou pack, and unless it has another name, sounds like I get a new stepmania pack to play ![]() Too bad I don't have dance pad yet. Else I would have done first meetup on pad
Southperry Stepmania meetups - gauging interest - FallenMemory - 2009-06-09 Heidi Wrote:I'm totally cool with that time There are a couple Touhous in the KoMmunity but I believe they're different versions. U.N Owen was her, Pupil of Frenzy, Love Colored Master Spark, etc. All Touhou. Southperry Stepmania meetups - gauging interest - Magus - 2009-06-09 Fine, but I must warn you that I suck. Southperry Stepmania meetups - gauging interest - chrome - 2009-06-09 Heh, I used to be okay at FFR. I guess Stepmania wouldn't hurt to try. Southperry Stepmania meetups - gauging interest - Zaotsu - 2009-06-09 God what, Community Keyboard Megapack is only Intermediate? orz Time seems good for me. If I may suggest other packs that I found good, probably in the easy ~intermediate keyboard, whatever corresponding difficulty in pad, the Hopscotch Mixes are good, as well as the Foonmixes. Southperry Stepmania meetups - gauging interest - Rob - 2009-06-09 Since no one answered, which version do you prefer? v3.95 or 4.00? Which one runs better online? Southperry Stepmania meetups - gauging interest - Spaz - 2009-06-09 RobMdza Wrote:could be. does SM consume a lot of bandwith? Cuz my connection sucks.Downloading packs certainly uses a lot of bandwidth. The actual game does not, all it does is send the server an update of the arrows you've hit/missed every so often and receive updates from the other players.3.95 and 4.0 are equally good as far as online play is concerned. 3.95 can't enter rooms with passwords, but I won't be using one because 3.9 players might not want to switch themes. Stepmania 4 is still in development and breaks theme compatiblity frequently, so there's pretty much only the default theme available for 4.0. 3.9 has been out for quite some time, and 3.9 themes are compatible with 3.95, so there's a rich set of themes available for 3.95. If you don't care about themes or you like the default theme for 4.0, use 4.0. If you want to change the theme, use 3.95. Zaotsu Wrote:God what, Community Keyboard Megapack is only Intermediate? orz
Spoiler
You ought to see the songs in the Touhou Project pack if you think CKMP is hard. ![]() All the Touhou songs in KoMmunity are from Touhou Pad Pack I'm pretty sure. Oh yeah, it'd be good if I explained how to play online. =P You should have the following options set: Coin Options > Event Mode = ON Machine Options > Menu Timer = OFF Machine Options > Default Fail Type = Whatever. Don't put FailImmediate unless you're a masochist. Machine Options > Judge Difficulty = 4 Machine Options > Life Difficulty = 4 Machine Options > Marvelous Timing = ALWAYS Make an account at the Stepmania Online forums. Once that's done, go in the options menu in Stepmania and create a profile with the username you registered with. Select "Netword play" or something like that from the Stepmania menu (remember, you need 3.95 or 4.0). When it asks you where to connect to, enter smonline.us. When it asks for password, enter the password of the account you registered with. Once you're in a lobby or game room of Stepmania Online, you need to press ctrl+enter to select things! Just plain enter is used for sending chat messages. Enter the Novice or Beginning sub-lobby (I forget exactly what it's called). On meetup nights, I'll create a room there called Southperry. When you're in a room, pressing up twice will bring you to an options menu where you can adjust your speed mods and other options. (refer to this guide for how to add custom speed mods.) Pressing down allows you to select from the available difficulties of the selected song. Finally, a word of advice to new players: Play with two hands and change your keys to something like dfjk so your fingers aren't crowded together on the arrow key. I'm usually on Southperry IRC, so feel free to ask me questions there (in PM please, I don't pay too much attention to #southperry). Southperry Stepmania meetups - gauging interest - xBTAx - 2009-06-09 I'll be going off to download while studying for exams. If I find some nice packs, can I suggest them?

Depends on pack, but I tend to do 10 - 12, maybe 9 and 13. Just do whatever you like doing. I'd say there will be a huge range of abilities there. |
