Lozmaster Wrote:Uh? They normally do, because they're essentially the same thing. There isn't a specific "size" of the image that is on a bluray/game disc/whatever which is then shrunk or scaled to the tv, it's probably the aspect ratio of the tv which is causing the problem. Tv companies basically have two choices if the tv they sell doesn't match the aspect ratio of the image being displayed: black bars on the top and bottom, or cut parts of the images off on the sides. Sad Not a lot you can do about it for most tvs either.

That's not what I mean.

Almost every TV I've had to shuffle through the options for that was LCD or LED had an option to enlarge the overall image to around 120%, but you can never decrease it below 100%.

I hate how right you are right now.
Still, it's not actually PAX East right now, and they did say 'titles'. I really do hope there's bigger news than this.

DEvelopers seriously don't give a pomegranate about the Wii U. .

The new super smash bros better be awesome, or its seriously gonna suck for nintendo.

Wasn't there a rumor that the fourth game is gonna have a smaller roster than Brawl?

But yea, this Smash better knock it out of the park or the Wii U will be in turd creek for a while.

It better not...that would be lame. Like SE's announcement being Deus Ex is. Disappointment.

Nah, it could be worth it if they get rid of the massive amount of clones. Brawl had, what, 7 clones? I think that 35 characters with different move sets would be preferable to say, 40 with 10 clones, so they could have less characters, but still *more* in a certain sense. Besides that, Nintendo is already really scraping the barrel for characters, how many more really relevant characters do they have left to add?

So yeah, what are everyones thoughts on the character roster then? Who stays and who will go, etc?

I think some of the obvious changes will happen
Ike swapped for Chrom, or the bonus character from the very last sidequest, but with a very similar moveset.
Twilight link for Skyward Sword Link, who will still suck balls and land in the bottom tier.
Toon link to stay (because of wind waker HD), inevitably better in every way than whichever adult link they go with.
Drop Wolf. Maybe replaced with Krystal using her staff to fight.
Lucario gone for Zoroark or some other similar bipedal 'mon from X/Y
Snake gone. I expect sonic to stay though.

Now for guesses/What I'd like to see:

Shulk from Xenoblade.
Isaac or some other rep from Golden Sun.
One Namco Character, since they're helping develop the game. I expect it will either be Lloyd Irving or Emil Castagnier. I'd prefer Lloyd, and I'm sure most people would agree.
Dillon from The Rolling Western. (A new character who doesn't use a sword!?!? Crazy!)
Someone else from Kid Icarus Uprising. Probably either Hades or Palentena. This one is definitely happening, since Sakurai is made/is making both.

Crazy ideas that probably won't happen.
Drop Ganondorf, or completely redo his moveset so he isn't a Capt Falcon clone. Heck, make him chubby Toon Ganondorf with his dual swords.
Wolf Link + Midna. It's been too long since twilight princess.

Honestly though most of the clones weren't direct clones, and had some noticeable differences. For example Toon Link compared to Adult Link, while they had the same base movesets, the movesets worked differently. The Bow was different, his spin was different as well. Sure his moveset was the same, but at least it wasn't the same exact character with a different model. I actually enjoyed Toon Link a lot and was absolutely horrible with Adult Link.

Same thing with Wolf compared to Fox and Falco.

Though if they replace them with unique characters that would be far better than removing them completely. For example, while they removed Roy from Brawl, at least he was replaced with a decent cast, and even Ike himself was a far better character than Roy really was.

I dunno, it could go both ways really.

I also heard a lot about new third party characters, but I don't know how much of that was rumor/bull and how much of it was true so I can't really use that in any type of argument. I even heard DQ Slime at some point...which would be interesting to say the least.

Honestly I liked everything about Brawl regardless of how many people thought Melee was better. I certainly had a lot more fun with it, and got more involved with it.

Anything you've heard is what people want to see, and anyone claiming it is true is lying.

Blue & Yellow Toad.

Smash Bros should completely take the step from being a gathering of Nintendo characters to being a gathering of iconic gaming characters. Maybe its gonna cost a lot of money but when people like us are talking of it possibly being the one thing to save the Wii U it definitely is worth it.

That said I'd definitely love to see:
X instead of Megaman. That'd earn nintendo the appreciation of all of us that hated when he was left out of MvC3.
Bomberman - Who didn't grow up with this guy? this can also be a tribute to the recently passed away Hudson
I can't remember many characters from Namco but no one more well known and that'd fit better than Pacman I guess.
Contra guy: Because Contra and Super Contra were also part of many's childhood on the NES and SNES.
Crash bandicoot: To make it a kick in the balls of PSBSR and Sony. Crash was to that game what X was to MvC3, or more.

I'd also love to see a GoldenSun character, but I'm afraid adding Isaac or Felix woldn't contribute much to the game. Instead I'm thinking Ivan could be an excellent addition. He sucked as a mele character but he was really good using Psynergy. He could work as a ranged character constantly running away from everyone while casting Spark Plasmas or Hurricanes on the whole map. And his smash? summoning freaking Thor... that's badass.

I've always loved X over Megaman myself in terms of design and abilities. X is more fitting for a character in Smash anyway, considering his overall superior mobility.

I honestly don't care what they add, as long as they don't make DLC characters or maps. I know a lot of people who used to claim that Nintendo knows how to do DLC correctly without screwing over people who don't pay for it, but then I looked at FE12/13, NSMB3DS, etc. and I know that's not true at all. I just don't want their horrible DLC jobs to screw over Smash.

UK southperrians who sit on the fence of getting a wii u or not - HMV have Premium wii us for 199.99 pounds, with a free copy of zombii u. This is crazy, and I have no idea how long they plan to offer it at this price for. It's essentially less than a wii + a game was for years. So make sure you get yours soon if you want one, I feel confident saying it's not going to go lower than this for a long time.

Truth be told the Wii U really needs games in order for sales to increase; these price drops are just not going to cut it.

Well, games don't come out of nowhere, even ignoring the price drop, this would be a better time to get one than the last few months if you didn't want one at launch, since we now heading into the second wave of games.

Need for Speed (which the developers have said is a bit better than the other console versions, using the better pc textures and a few other things that the 360/ps3 versions couldn't) and Monster hunter 3 ultimate have just come out, Lego City is out next week, Injustice: Gods among us is out in a few weeks, which is pretty level with the amount of games coming out on 360/ps3 ( Everything has a pretty mediocre lineup for the next couple of months). I guess Bioshock would have been nice, but I don't think I'd have bought it anyway.

We're due for a nintendo direct in 2-3 weeks too, hopefully it'll give us solid (hopefully pre e3) dates on Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101 and Game & Wario. But anything more than that is extremely unlikely.

These price drops are not coming from Nintendo, they are coming from the shops that stocked on Wii U's and havent been able to sell them fast enough, which in the end only proves that the console is doing pretty bad if they cut 150$ off the price on the premium.

I do believe Nintendo is right in their vision, the future of consoles lays on changing the way games are played. Nowadays more and more people are switching to PCs because consoles can't beat them when it comes to graphics or online multiplayer, or that most of the features that are being added to consoles either already are on PCs or work better on them. The only thing in which consoles excel over PCs is in-room multiplayer (another Nintendo focus). That said I doubt we are seeing anything of that with the Wii U, not focusing on graphics is one thing, but consoles need a good hardware in orther to stay relevant throughout the years which de Wiii U doesn't have. They also need to perfect the nunchuck and improve the gamepad if they trully want to make of the Wii U an alternative way of gaming, which seems to be their objective.

Any uk price drop has to come from the retailers. Nintendo doesn't set a rrp here because they got accused of price fixing like 10 years ago.
