And I'm well aware it is getting cheaper to make a computer that will play most games...but that's more like a casual player in my opinion. But if you're very competitive, you'll want to get the best quality hardware that will support you the best way as possible. Need help picking computer parts or a new computer? If those won't work, I'll try to build my first PC. What is your current budget?: $1000 What part are you looking for? Why do you need it?: A whole new PC. What parts are in your current computer? Be as specific as possible. Links to Newegg/Tigerdirect are best. If you have a pre-built, include the make and model. Especially if you get good at what you do, and stream (Which is very American) you can make a living off it. TheOddOne, from League of Legends, can make house payments off his income. So I support his movement on his approach...Yet that also means shelling out close to $1,500 USD. Need help picking computer parts or a new computer? Plenty of Korean BW players played on mediocre internet Cafe PCs, using the cheapest mice/keyboards for years. Same for any globally popular competitive game, like Dota and CS. Your gear doesn't improve your ability, it just makes it more comfortable to play. I do agree with Derosis's point that you need a quality PC to stream, which has become a major source of income for pro gamers, though. Need help picking computer parts or a new computer? (doh) And you do realize you're mentioning games that basically came out in the early millennium; keep in mind back then a top quality machine had a low end Nvidia card and maybe 8GBs of ram tops. It didn't take much to play those games seriously if you wanted. But think about it... A laser mouse will give you the ability to move faster and be more accurate compared to a ball mouse? Pretty sure I'm right. A 120hz monitor will give you the ability to see fast moving objects more clear? Pretty sure I nailed that one too. Hmm.....pretty sure hardware does give you the ability to play better...just might...just maybe Need help picking computer parts or a new computer? That's good even today. A very good computer in 1998 had 512 MB of RAM. You can get a decent gaming mouse for about $40 and your monitor has next to nothing to do with how well you can play a game (beyond a reasonable level of quality like being able to see what's going on without lag). After a certain benchmark, usually reached around the 800 - 900 dollar mark, it's all about comfortableness. I play better with my 10 dollar mouse than I would with a 70 dollar mouse I bought simply because I'm used to it. Need help picking computer parts or a new computer? I just built my aunt a $500 computer ( the one in the link I posted) and it runs Skyrim VERY well. AMD A6. Nvidia GTX 650 8GB RAM. PC Parts should be getting cheaper around this time. And comes in a mini-ITX case! I'm pretty happy with it. Need help picking computer parts or a new computer? Been wanting a significantly stronger computer ever since I discovered emulation/started using Steam. What parts are in your current computer? Be as specific as possible. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/BV9J As I've grown used to dual-screen shenanigans, I'm gonna want to buy a monitor with all this to use with the TV I've been using as a 2nd monitor with my laptop. What do I wanna look for in a monitor/how do I make sure my build can have multiple monitors plugged into it? For the operating system, its kinda weird. I have access to a free version of Windows 7 professional, but by the time I get the money to buy all the parts, I may have already graduated and lost access to it. Thinking about DLing the set up, sticking it on a flash-drive and hiding the product-key away until I get everything set up. Is this viable? Let it be known that this is the very first time I'm attempting to build a computer. Any recommendations, advice or harsh criticism is looked upon fondly. How do you intend to use this new part or new computer? What's the heaviest load it's likely to encounter? I'm planning to use it for everything I attempt to do on my low powered laptop right now. The laptop can handle video/music/light gaming, but anything other than that puts a strain on the poor thing, and Overclocking seems like a no-go. Most likely emulating games via PCSx2/Dolphin with greater graphics than the actual systems themselves is the primo amount of strain. If you live anywhere other than the United States, please indicate your country. Right smack dab in the middle of the USA. More info next time I gain access to a computer. The 3770 doesn't have an unlocked multiplier unlike the 3770k (K versions have unlocked multitplier which make them great for OC'ing) and the only difference between a 3570k and 3770k is one has Hyperthreading. Unless you're running fancy programs which utilize the HT stick with the 3570k. You can OC it to like 4.0-4.3 on air. Now that you've saved money on that, get the GTX 660 Superclock - http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-SUPERCLOCKED-Graphics-02G-P4-2662-KR/dp/B00966IREK/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1360199675&sr=1-1&keywords=GTX+660 This is what I would do. Now you have a CPU which gives the same gaming performance for the same a price and a better GPU. Plus Radeon cards have horrible drivers. |
