There will ALWAYS be people who spend a pomegranate ton of USD for equips, and that is why they continue to do so. One of them have told me that they wouldn't be doing this if it didn't mean USD for them.

Well obviously. Without incentive, I highly doubt hackers would continue wasting their time on destroying this game. The point is that these exploits and hacks affect the game and economy a lot and in the long run completely screw everyone over except the super rich few who want to blow tons of USD on this game. Every average and legit player gets fucked in response.

Godly gear doesn't make you better at how efficient you are on your character...obviously most classes don't require much effort aside from holding 1 button down but for the classes that use multiple skills constantly (i.e. DBs and Mercs), you can have all the hacked gear you want but to me if you only use one skill and constantly get hit by monsters/bosses and just overall suck at playing your character then you're still a noob who doesn't know anything about classes and the most effective way to play them.

I'm sure people are going to say "this game requires no skill etc etc" but this is my opinion on the matter.

It does not matter how noob they are, a person decked out with this pomegranate will still train faster and boss better than any legit could ever dream about doing.

This is an MMO. What other people have and how other people play affects you by design.

I don't mean to bash people who want to play games differently, but really, if you want to "solo" an RPG there are far, far better designed single player rpgs out there you should be playing instead of this pomegranate.

Those of us who still play ms have a tendency to retreat into what we like doing and ignore other aspects of the game falling apart. CWKPQ was that for me, because the main requirement was organization and logistics, not having the best gear. It was a truly social aspect to a social game, and I liked that. People could still bring hacked gear and kill the bosses faster, but the basic equation of doing the pq wasn't altered - the same accomplishment for the same investment, for all players. This is not true at all of most other aspects of this game.

Bossing is comparative, there are a limited number of channels to do important bosses on, and the longer you take the more opportunities the boss script has to kill you. Some people boss for fun/because they have nothing better to do, but I and most others say a boss is only worth doing much if its profitable. This means its drops have to be desirable. Even before this hack the potential system was severely mitigating the importance of in game accomplishment - your damage range was more dependent on using cubes than any boss drop. This hack takes things a big leap further in that direction. Your damage is now most dependent on whether you use a hacked item - hacked items that will be readily available if the hackers get their way. This outcome can only be prevented if all such items are removed, since duping is a far more difficult issue to fix for ms, and will likely outlive any 301 attack anythings.

So, if in game accomplishment isn't important or relevant, why do things in game?

Twitter Hime seems to be more informative and that damn character limit keeps her from incessantly saying "Thank you" as if it were some sort of tic.

Yup, Hime on Twitter is far more bearable than her forum self.

There are a few classes that become more efficient if you use skill combos instead of holding one button down.
It requires minimum effort, but still.
You don't have to be such an ass about it.

i'm sad i missed vlad's posts, they seemed pretty interesting, i knew most of what he said (that i saw in quotes) but the clean superslot equips was something new.

now, he might or might not have said this before, but for the actual hackers (read, the SFC team and such, not the script kiddies) they don't do it to "destroy maplestory", it's a business, if anything one may argue they are the only ones that have fun in this game, look at it this way.

they use their knowledge to create an exploit, be it dupes, be it whatever, duping being the most profitable one ofc, they proceed to sell either the method or the result for NX, NX they use to change for actual money (and lots of it, not an understatement) and for saving for the future exploit/glitch/hack/etc.

they will always be a step ahead in strenght and funds, next time anything happens, they get to it first, which in turn allows them to make even better stuff to sell again, and the cycle keeps repeating.

these people sell in waves obviously, to keep the prices of items constant, much better than releasing over 1k VSS with attack, and see them barely sell, by keeping a fake "low supply" the demand inflates.

making some numbers up, say they sold 25 VSS, 25 ST's, 25 cravens and 25nisrocs each month, for 80k NX each, and selling the NX for actual money at a 2NX:1$ rate, we are talking about 4k$ a month, just from duping the same thing over and over, now they got better stuff, lionheart helms, empress weapons, what have you. it's incredibly "easy" money for those that know how.

i have talked a few times with actual hackers, i overhear them for fun and kicks in knowing what goes on around, i visit the hacking sites (read, visit, nothing more), they can make a living out of this and are actually doing it.

for 2 simple reasons everyone has said, the community allows it, and nexon allows it.

It's not asinine*, it's completely true, everything he has said has no relevance to the main problem. What he and apparently you don't realize is if you hit max damage, it doesn't matter how you play a class, it matters how you spam the damage cap as fast as possible, which can be solved within a few days of playing.

So no, skill has no relevance in an issue like this.

I don't think it was so much that part that sparked his response, as much as it was the "Godly gear doesn't make you better at how efficient you are on your character" part.

Long as you do more damage, you will kill more efficiently. you will spend less time per mob at LHC and such.

Ninja'd by the guy himself, disregard.

Granted he could have meant solely in terms of making the most of your damage stat. but really, even joetang's thread can't help me against someone with double my damage range.

That.

What should happen:
Remove Golden Hammers <100%, any equipment that was hammered will be saved (Unless over the limit, any hammers in the CASH Inventory will be refunded>
No White Scrolls
No Stat changing scrolls <Unless 10%, 30%, 60%, 65%, 100%, Chaos>
Potential gets a revamp
CWKPQ should return
Gachapon should be stripped and revamped <Like KMS>

Not only will this help the Meso:Item ratio It should also help maplers keep in league with other maplers.

Normalization of the market... Damn do i want it.

What2doNexon - Worthyness - 2012-01-06

If i was capable of creating hacks I probably would do the same as the hack makers are doing. Then you can write an economics paper on how to control the economy by hoarding and controlling the market.

What2doNexon - Berzerk - 2012-01-06

What they should do is add something where if an item is past it's theoretical limit, it gets removed from the inventory. Yes, this would require a lot of effort coding all that, but at least the items would be removed. Every item should be put under the assumption that it's stats can be raised up to 15 times with scrolls, with the addition of 7 stats per scroll, and up to 15 Equip Enhancements. Yes, while doing all this legititmatly seems impossible, there needs to be some buffer for the legit items.

What2doNexon - ovation - 2012-01-06

If MS goes, so does the exploiters' business/profit. Therefore, hackers wouldn't do anything to deliberately "destroy" the game of MapleStory. Script kiddies have no such qualms, they just want a 4th job character to play around with, or a level 200 to show off with.

Why go by stats instead of by slots?
Any item that has more scrolled slots + unused slots than it can (per the item prototype in the character.wz file) will ban the account it's on.
And 15 enhances... yeah, whatever.
Of course this won't catch the items that had their enhancement history wiped by the world transfer bug. Those will have to be individually searched for by other means.

Hackers are not a single minded monolith. Someone was saying earlier how "it was decided" not to release the 300 stat items to the general public - that's total bunk. Even if it was true, it just incentivizes individual hackers to sell them all the more, since they would be the sole supplier and would therefore charge a higher price and make more money.

Just because they don't want MS to die for the sake of their wallets doesn't mean their actions won't move it closer to that. No individual drop of rain believes it is to blame for the flood.

That.

This is very true. I've visited the "blackmarket" section of the most popular hacking website. I saw a 768 magic att earring receiving offers of 7m NX...Which can be sold for around 4-5 thousand USD

MissingLink Wrote:You are confusing dupers with botters. This thread is about hackers making crazy-stat equips and duping them. They are not going to flood the market with anything.
Botters are who make mesos and previously valuable items like scrolls and pieces-of-time near worthless.

Anyway, I agree with happylight. Some of you guys are overreacting as happens whenever something like this comes up.
Only a tiny percentage of players will be willing and able to pay $500 for a glove. For the average player, it is of no more concern that whatever Ferraris are currently selling for. The people who do buy this stuff keep to themselves (Birds of a feather stick together). I will never cross paths with them.
What are scrolls for?
Improve your gear.
What are Pieces of Time for?
Make clean gear.

What does someone with a 27att VSS need with either of those?
For that matter, why would they buy an empress shoe? The answer is, they wouldn't. When the hackers introduce items with better stats, they make all other equips less valuable - anything legitimate players can hunt.
If there's just one 27 att BWG in the game (or maybe 2) the effect is lessened, but that's not how things are going. There is mass duping going on.

Botters, of course, do the same thing more directly - they hunt the same things legitimate players can, but more quickly (and less human effort). Which does devalue stuff - but it doesn't make it completely obsolete.
