Why the Secret Spell Scroll system would have never worked. - Heidi - 2012-02-14 Phoenix Wrote:What you want to do is stop making your server so gullible to the packets it receives. There should be no reason for a Mush Shop to lock out a character just because the player can trick the server into saying they are opening a second shop in the same spot (or that is at least how I understand this works). That they can fix, but I think it's you who said that they barely know the games themselves, compared to the hackers. That and they are reluctant to fix the problem, and merely content in patching the various symptoms. Actually fixing the problem would be a huge job, and quite possibly impossible with the current code. It's probably a huge mess, mixed up and coupled in stupid ways, and changing something in one place probably requires changes in a gazillion other places. And they would quite possibly need to completely redo the way that packets are handled. The client has far too much power over the server. The fact that social factors in KMS make it work there is completely irrelevant to GMS, it's a different culture playing it and it is ran in a different way. It is simply not going to work in the US, and even hiring more staff might be too little too late as so many people now know how to exploit this game and aren't going to stop anytime soon. I remember the guild hack where people could randomly join guilds and then kick everybody including the leader? If the server actually did some validation checking and didn't just believe everything the client said, that never would have happened... Why the Secret Spell Scroll system would have never worked. - Avoidant - 2012-02-15 >no "rollback" So, what, everyone who abused this just got to keep their billions? All those mesos stay in the economy? Everyone who didn't abuse it gets (even more) screwed in terms of being able to afford things? I'm just a little confused; where is the retribution here? The MTS keeps logs of this sort of thing, so why hasn't Nexon announced that they've begun banning bulk-buyers of SSS scrolls? Or the people who sold them? To be sure, they're probably all mule accounts, but if they banned a bunch of accounts with lots of money on them, then it'd be something, right? I mean, I've seen them "rollback" for currency issues far more minor than this. What gives? Well as far as i am aware they have yet to make any statement about it. Since you can't MTS them now they are obviously aware. Perhaps they are planning something, who knows. Nexon are never quick of the mark unless it is something involving the cash shop. Why the Secret Spell Scroll system would have never worked. - sverreerik - 2012-02-15 No Rollback? That's outrageous. Every reason I needed to quit. Why the Secret Spell Scroll system would have never worked. - Justin - 2012-02-15 I believe Nexon is trying to refrain from rolling back because we just HAD a rollback. They don't want everyone to get the mindset that rollbacks are going to be a common occurrence. Well they need to do something to fix the economy damage... it went to hell and ain't coming back at this stage! Why the Secret Spell Scroll system would have never worked. - Blades4hire - 2012-02-15 Most of these items weren't even duped in the past few days. They could've been duped months ago, and just released into mts now. A rollback would accomplish nothing except annoy people. The servers have crashed more recently, and why would people wait to sell? I agree it was most likely a recent thing, but people hoarding their illegal stacks for future profit isn't ridiculous. I've seen screenshots of cannoneer mules filled to the brim with protection/white scrolls/attack accessories/vss/etc. Why the Secret Spell Scroll system would have never worked. - Justin - 2012-02-15 Heidi Wrote:Well they need to do something to fix the economy damage... it went to hell and ain't coming back at this stage! The economy's BEEN in hell for years. Things will just blow over eventually. They always do. Every single time. People are too addicted to the game to really honestly quit because of something like this. You used to at least be able to perfect scroll shoulderpads, now it's just pointless. You used to at least be able to perfect scroll shoulderpads, now it's just pointless. Exactly. Most hackers don't even accept mesos for their items anymore. They only want pure NX or "moneypak" Why the Secret Spell Scroll system would have never worked. - SaptaZapta - 2012-02-15 Kalovale Wrote:What does having a lot of meso do anyway? Well, they're not buying out the FM like in that infamous meso exploit that got innocent people tradeblocked for months. I suppose they're selling the meso to goldfarming sites for real $, or something like that. The days of hackers abusing the game for the benefit of their characters are pretty much over, most of the exploits now are created by people that use them to make real money. I guess that's why there's so much interest in hacking now, after people have seen how badly Nexon deals with this sort of stuff they see it as a way of earning a bit of cash. Frustratingly it seems to work quite a lot of the time. Why the Secret Spell Scroll system would have never worked. - moore4me - 2012-02-15 CrazyForDex Wrote:Except it's even worse than that. Ah then I see how that completely relates lol. Wasn't aware there was a show. |
