Alley Wrote:I'd suggest getting a faster RPM drive and not making it samsung. Although more expensive, WD has a better survival rate, especially among the 2TB drive, they also have a 7200 RPM as apposed to the samsung that has only a 5400. Other than that everything looks fine, I have the same PSU, and it supports everything perfectly. GET A ZALMAN COPPER RING CPU COOLER!!

Gah! I went for price, I completely ignored RPM. Thanks for rending me Alley!

ok, I think this one is 5400 but I am unsure

Also, this seagate is 7200 for cheap?

I wouldn't get a WD green if I were you, I know a lot of people who've used them and they generally have a high fail rate, even when being used as just a data drive. WD black (especially the 1TB) is the stable one, so if the price is your aim then go for the seagate, but a 3TB, not 2TB. It will perform better and they have a lower fail rate than the WD green.

Go with a WD Black 1TB drive.

I plan on getting this computer when I get paid on the 1st of next month. It seemed to give the most bang for the buck. i7 processor, nvidia graphics card, 6 gigs of ram and only $750. I haven't been able to find a computer with the i7 + nvidia card + 6 gigs (or higher) of ram for this low yet. Is this worth it? I don't know too much about what's good and what's not for computers.

I also found this samsung that seemed like a really sweet deal. The biggest difference between this and the asus is that it has 8 gigs of ram, but it uses an AMD graphics card rather than the NVidia. Which is more important when it comes to running graphic heavy games? Processor or ram?

I still can't decide between an Asus Maximus Gene V or a Maximus V Formula, but if I go with a Formula I need to get a full tower.

I think one of these would be better off:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834214734

both are the newest ivy bridge processors, I believe the graphic performance on those are better than the dedicated 610M.

These are the parts I have picked. Any thoughts?

64Gb drives are SMALL, too small. Try at least 120+, I would recommend ~256 ones. It will give you longer life span, better write performance as well.

M4 is a good choice, though the vertex 4 is more tempting: faster, longer warranty, and maybe only $30-40 more depending on size.

If you're going to be storing your videos and stuff, better to get two drives and put them in raid, or figure out a better solution then using just one 2TB drive.

*coughs* I already ordered everything XL! Dammit!

The 64 is small, I agree. I will probably upgrade in due time.

I switched to a 1TB for now, and will be getting more drives later. My case (storm enforcer) has shittons of room. Not worried about drive space.

I'm not saying you won't have enough storage, I'm talking about having redundant storage. I know you do some video editing, all those footage are probably valuable enough that you wouldn't want to lose them in case of a drive failure.

I could set up RAID I suppose. Currently the old rendered things are lying on my external.. I hope it doesn't die from now til Friday.

Also I would see if you could just return the 64GB, I was looking for a SSD a few days ago and so to prepare, I cleaned up my harddrive with my OS (so I can just clone everything onto the SSD when I buy it). Turns out, with all the programs, a few games, operating system, I'm using over 100Gigs. If you install the OS on the 64GB now, it's almost guaranteed that you'll run into space problems later and then would have to go through the hassle.

I ran out of money on this build. My current laptop has a 64gb SSD. I just move the pagefile and lower the recycle bin requirements.

If you have more than 8gb of ram disable the page file, you honestly do not need it. Also in the future if you plan to get an SSD, I would suggest the Samsung 830. Very fast, very reliable. Although the Vertex 4 is fast, it's only a few weeks old, so we don't really know how reliable it is. Intel is another good choice for reliability/speed. Plus they just slashed some prices on their SSD's. HDD prices are going to remain inflated for a while so now is a good time to take advantage of the falling prices on SSD's.

What is your current budget?:
$400-800

What part are you looking for? Why do you need it?:
I need a new laptop. I need it for college, also Guild Wars 2 Tongue

What parts are in your current computer? Be as specific as possible. Links to Newegg/Tigerdirect are best. If you have a pre-built, include the make and model.
I need a new laptop, prefer windows 7 and Intel I cores.
Here is a list of minimum requirement for guild wars 2
Windows® XP Service Pack 2 or better
Intel® Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz, Core i3 OR AMD Athlon 64 X2, or better
2 GB RAM
NVIDIA® GeForce® 7800, ATI X1800, Intel HD 3000, or better (256 MB of video RAM and shader model 3.0 or better)
25 GB available HDD space
Broadband Internet connection
Keyboard and mouse

How do you intend to use this new part or new computer? What's the heaviest load it's likely to encounter?
I would like to use this computer to do some college work and play guild wars 2. The heaviest load it's likely to encounter will probably be guild wars 2 since I am not planning to play anything else.

If you live anywhere other than the United States, please indicate your country.
I live in U.S.

Thanks for the help everyone Big Grin

I think one of the laptops in this post: http://www.southperry.net/showthread.php?t=32201&p=999660&viewfull=1#post999660 would work.

^^^ Yeah have fun playing GW2 with integrated graphics... maybe on Medium Low settings...

Get one of these - They are out of stock in a lot of places but this is what I use and I can play most games pretty well. If you can find one, that is. They were around 430$ on Micro Center a month or two ago but now they are all out. Sad

What is your current budget?:
60-80$

What part are you looking for? Why do you need it?:
I am looking for a keyboard. I need it to type. I play MMOs but I don't care about fancy macros and all that junk. Just need a comfortable keyboard that will work well with GaypleStory (Has that weird DELETE PAGE UP PAGE DOWN) Array on the right, preferably close to the arrows. None of those bizarre tiny half arrows. Full sized keyboard. Not cheap, but not too expensive. Thanks!

What is your current budget?:
Maximum budget about 1000 GBP, but would like to not spend it all. looking to spend 600-700 comfortably
(bout $1500 USD, max. comfortable amount 950-1100)

What part are you looking for? Why do you need it?:
Whole new Laptop. The laptop I have now is kinda old, been thru some wear and tear and starting to give me problems.

Also if it's not too much trouble, I'd prefer (not compulsory) a laptop with the Delete, Home, Pg Up, Pg Down and End keys down the right hand side

Want to be able to play games on it. Hopefully gonna be buying a buncha games from the Steam Summer Sale, also want to be able to run Maple, WoW and Diablo 3 without any hiccups (not necessarily simultaneously)
Want to be able to browse the web at the same time as playing too, play music in the background

If you live anywhere other than the United States, please indicate your country.
I live in London, UK.

The HD4000 integrated graphics cards that come with the Ivy Bridge processors are surprising good. For sure exceeds the minimal requirements for Guild Wars 2. The one you provided does have better graphics, but I can't find it anywhere where they have stock.

This is the keyboard I'm typing on right now, it's got that old school feel with the big keys, I don't believe is mechanical, but it is fairly loud when typing (it does make you sound like a fast typer though lol). Also notice how the keys above the arrows are mapped exactly like the game (mins shift and control of course, no one puts shift and control keys up there F3). http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=23-218-003

But if I have to get another keyboard, I really want the K800 illuminated, same layout pretty much but 2.5 times the price: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823126194

I have a friend that's running D3 on a 2011 Macbook Pro 13 inch, obviously not on high or anything. The Mid 2012 MBP 13 is also about your budget range, it would run D3 and WoW for sure in OSX, but maple you would either use boot camp or something. If you like Apple, that's definitely an option. Otherwise, there are plenty notebook recommendations from recent posts that you could have a look.
