Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS Discussion - byakugan - 2013-07-30

They are scrapping subspace because of time and money, simple as that. This SSB game has the tittle "rushed" all over any part you look at. Nintendo is in a pinch, the Wii U needs awesome games to get people to buy the console, they tell Sakurai they need SSB for yesterday... bam he ends all stressed up and with an injured arm. This is also why they went with Super mario 3d land and not galaxy, a game like galaxy needs time more than anything else so that they can work to make it meet everyone's expectations... take time away and you end up with... well that, super mario 3d land.

I personally wonder, without subspace what content will it bring then? Just arcade, vs, online, challenges and training? i hope there's more.

im fine with a newer version of adventure mode that incorporates the new IPs. One aspect of the game I hope they pick up would be stage building. With the WiiU's ability to now download patches and dlc for games(where brawl couldn't) extra pieces and stuff would be nice.

Sakurai already confirms there will be no DLC.

Don't feel like searching the thread, but there's another source in here somewhere for this:
http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/06/13/e3-2013-no-plans-for-smash-bros-dlc-tripping-removed
Quote: "I consider my job at this point, and my main responsibility, to make the Wii U and 3DS versions the best and the fullest experience possible. That said, once finished, it's the type of thing we could take into consideration, but for now, you could consider DLC as not being in the cards."

I just don't think it's going to happen to the extent DLC is traditionally done. DLC is like of one of those things that nintendo just wouldn't do unless they literally needed to because of the whole "losing face" thing the japanese do. To them, releasing DLC after the fact is the same as admitting they rushed the game which they don't want to do. Also they know what that will do for the game competitively if they make major cast changes or additions after seeing PS all stars.

Plus i bet sakurai is going to be a f'ucking wreak after he's done with it all, lol. Either that or he/his team will move on to some other project and won't have time for it.

I definitely don't disagree with anything you said, just pointing out it wasn't confirmed to never happen, just that it's not a focus and not intended at this time.

Yeah it's too easy to mix up those intentions my bad lol.

Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS Discussion - Niernen - 2013-07-30

I wonder why they cant release the core game, and lets say they have a few character they want to tweak, or add later, have them as DLC? They could patch any imbalances in the game, and add more characters (maybe have events asking which character fans want the most and add it if possible?). Most other game take advantage of DLC. People would definitely love free DLC character, and you know most people would buy them too (yes, they make make a big fuss and rage on the internet, but they would probably buy it, if only not to be left out).

clearly there are probably flaws.

If i understand you correctly...why would the community invest in developing a metagame for characters where some or most of the rest of cast is knowingly unavailable?

Probably the most interesting facet of the smash community is it's metagame and how it changes SO QUICKLY AND OFTEN compared to any other competitive game. DLC totally destroys that unless they make it exclusively stages or modes or content and ignore the mechanics/characters.

I'm guessing this is from City Folk, and I hope the 3DS version gets a New Leaf stage instead.

Takebacker Wrote:If i understand you correctly...why would the community invest in developing a metagame for characters where some or most of the rest of cast is knowingly unavailable?

Because no game with DLC characters has ever had a metagame.

Certainly not. Ah, but lets just look at, I dunno, Evo2013 because its the most recent tournament I can think of.

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3
Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition
Tekken Tag Tournament 2
Mortal Kombat 9
Street Fighter X Tekken 2013
King of Fighters XIII
Persona 4 Arena
Smash bros Melee

Oh. Of those, Only Persona 4 and melee don't include DLC characters. But the rest of them do, and clearly had enough of a "metagame" to be featured at a large fighting tournament. If the metagame is such an importance, why do you even need a new game if, as you put it, " it changes SO QUICKLY AND OFTEN" without a new game? Or that they should remove the idea of updates to satisfy the small number of people who care about that stuff (compared to the audience anyway: go on, claim that a majority of the 11.5 million sales of brawl care about the metagame stuff).

This is also bad logic. Do you think that because they released New Super Luigi U as DLC for New Super Mario Bros U, that the game was rushed? Or all the extra maps for fire emblem? Releasing extra content later doesn't mean the game was rushed.

(Though the clear downsizing they're doing to everything because Nintendo neither has the time or money they did last gen is another issue entirely)

Edited because the characters from the base version of MVC3 are still dlc in ultimate.

Forgive my lack of sleep vomiting s'hit all over the place.

Metagame in itself adapts, so this point was silly.

However, I've never seen people who own brawl (outside of like...small children) not mention something along the lines of "tripping sucks", "metaknight is OP", or something like that at some point so they do care about it to some extent whether they're actively involved in progressing/discussing it or not. I severely doubt that if DLC occurred that changed a character perceived to be powerful in a way that is then seen as worse, or if a new character comes out that is perceived as strong, a majority of the audience would say nothing. So yeah...people do care about metagame, and even more importantly, the developers do.

I have no idea what those titles are about so as far as i know they're two different games.

And i've already said my argument is exclusively about cast changes, not stages or extra stuff.

Also i'm SO GLAD you mentioned evo because now this won't be off topic.

A special note from Sakurai.
