Guild Wars 2 - Dusk - 2012-07-22 It's a good game, but the combat needs a lot of work. Some of the classes feel awkward or boring to play (Thief, Necro and Mesmer in particular), dodging needs work, and the enemy/pet AI is kind of weird. Guild Wars 2 - DrRusty - 2012-07-22 I didn't like thief at all. You're right about the combat of it. It doesn't flow (to me) well since it moves your character without moving the camera. When you use that skill that moves you around behind someone you have to move your camera at the same speed or you won't be facing your target in some circumstances. I'm going to get in some play on a warrior and elementalist before the beta goes down today. Edit - warrior is pretty sweet but seems to die kind of fast just like thief. Gaurdian is the tank from hell. They take almost no damage and can heal with half their skills and block with the other half. Norn starting area is complete crap. The human starting area reminds me of gilneas starting zone in WoW A LOT. And now I'm going to try elementalist. I was reading on the GW2 forums that pistol/pistol was really good for thief. I'm going to give it another shot with pistols to see if I change my mind. And woah, I didn't realize your choices in the beginning change what skills you have access to. Edit 2 - Yea, thief is a lot better playing as whatever gave me the options I had on my human rogue (Don't know if it's race or beginner traits that change your start skills) + pistol make thief a lot more fun and usable. Another SS - center of the human city

Guild Wars 2 - Kevin - 2012-07-23 Didn't want to spoil too much of the content, so tried out some WvWvW. Didn't think I would, but I actually enjoyed it a lot. The controls felt clunky at first, since I was expecting more Dragon Nest-type controls, but they became ok after a while. Overall it was a very enjoyable beta (can't believe how many things I dislike about MMOs they took out), really looking forward to release. Guild Wars 2 - raizoo - 2012-07-23 I'd argue with some of the points in previous posts, but you could easily just go to reddit and look at threads with people who have a similar opinion and see the responses. :x Only got to play the first hour after it kicked off and the last hour for the event. This Hunger Games event was a lot better than BWE2's event. ;-; Guild Wars 2 - SuperNerd - 2012-07-23 Tried out some Necromancer for the duration of today, and I thoroughly enjoyed it pretty well. I do like condition damage in this game, mainly cause the first main class I played made good use of it (Guardian's holy fire attacks). The finale event was pretty fucking awesome. I knew the second I read the name, "Hunger Royale," that it would be a Hunger Games-game. Sadly I died kinda early on because of hunger. I had a lot of fun in the event, although the fact that even after you ate your rations, you still continued to take hunger damage was REALLY annoying and ultimately led to my demise, so meh. You actually liked it? I thought it was terrible. The hunger system for that event was stupid. You couldn't walk 10 feet before dying. And before people would die, getting ammo was way too annoying. 3 shots and you're out of ammo. It sucked terribly. Fortunately, it's beta, so they have time to make changes. Guild Wars 2 - Polantaris - 2012-07-23 I didn't try Necro or Mesmer, but I have to agree with Thief. I didn't like it at all. Assassin was my main in the first game so I was hoping for a similar experience but I was disappointed. The Shadowstep/F1 thing is kind of stupid if you ask me. You should be able to Shadowstep whenever you want, but instead you have random other abilities that I couldn't seem to find any coordination on when they show up instead of Shadowstep. Not only that there was the camera issue others have mentioned. Honestly I feel some classes should get more dodges than others. For example Thief should have three or four instead of the two that Elementalists also get. It makes no sense that a class that focuses on dodging and avoiding can only dodge twice in a row. On the other hand, Guardian was great. I went Sword and Shield and loved it (Mace and Shield was bleh, too slow and 2/3 attacks seemed useless). The dodging works well with Guardian because you don't need to dodge everything, you can guard often as well. I don't know much about Necro and Mesmer play. I heard a lot of complaints from people saying that Mesmer were weak, but they were always based on conditions and damage over time so I don't know how much of the complaints are people just not understanding how the class works and how much is valid. As for Necro, I heard a lot of praise for Necro. People were stating left and right that it was awesome and they loved it. Same for Engineer. Honestly my only major problem with the game is that I can see there being a huge limitation on abilities, and it making the game boring after a while. GW1 was known for having a billion skills, and having a billion combinations and builds. Play the way you want to. However here....X Weapon set only gets Y skills. Period. And they're not a lot. While you get the other 5 skills to customize, it's not enough. They won't be your main attacks from everything I've noticed. They tend to be slow recovering, 45-60+ second cooldown skills. Your main attacks will never change per weapon. I hope they intend to do something about that. Guild Wars 2 - Dusk - 2012-07-23 Oh, I only played a little bit of Necro and I didn't like it, and I read that a lot of other people thought it was boring as well. That's cool if you liked it. That's cool if you liked it. Dunno if you were responding to me but: I never played Necro. Was just stating that I heard a lot of people praising it in Map Chat while I was playing my characters. I had intended to try Necro and Engi, but I was having fun with Guardian and Elementalist so I didn't try them. There's always release, and five character slots I'll probably not use all of. Guild Wars 2 - rassilon - 2012-07-23 I wound up not being able to play much this weekend because of work, so I only tried one class: Sylvari Mesmer. I like this class, though sometimes I was frustrated due to my ineptness with the game controls. As with Thief, some of your skills move you around (such as the one that makes an illusion of you and teleports you backward) while the camera stays put. I think this is due to the camera controls, and I should have tried this with automatic camera on but I didn't. The camera also bothered me sometimes due to not adapting to the landscape. I like that you get a personal story line, based on your choices during character creation, and decisions to make as you interact with NPCs that can change your attributes, karma, etc. I only got my plant person to level 9, mostly due to lack of time and spending much of that time trying to figure out the crafting system. I think I'm going to have lots of fun with this game when it comes out next month! Guild Wars 2 - SuperNerd - 2012-07-23 kremechoko Wrote:You actually liked it? I thought it was terrible. Yeah, like I said, the hunger thing was really annoying and stupid, but aside from that, I thought it was a fun little idea. Sure it could use a little touching up, but it was cool. Ammo was meant to be scarce, making it so you should only take a shot if you know you'll hit/incapacitate. I traveled with a small posse, because you have a greater chance in numbers and we stayed alive just fine, killing whoever crossed our paths, until I unfortunately died of hunger and they followed soon afterwards. Necromancer is all about condition damage. Pretty much every attack and skill deals some kind of status, whether it be a way to stack bleeding or poison and weakening, etc. Then you use those statuses to debilitate them while others deal the heavier damage. I had a neat combination of Utility Skills where one would inflict almost every status in the game: weaken, poison, blind, bleed, chilled, confusion, and vulnerability. Then I could use Epidemic which spreads the conditions a single monster has to every enemy surrounding it as well. It really tears through the enemies. And don't even get me started on how quickly stacked bleeding can bring down even the Veteran enemies. The playstyle is not for everyone, but it's not bad. I suspect that the Necro would be better the higher level it is, because at the beginning your damage to an enemy really only falls on how much you can poison and bleed it. I have been hearing a lot of mixed things about the Engineer, and of those, mainly bad things. So that has me worried. I plan to still make one, but at this point, I might make the Guardian my main because I had a ton of fun on that character. My main weaponset for the Guardian was Sword (main hand) + Torch (off-hand) and my second set was Scepter (main hand) + Focus (off-hand). Over the weekend I also tried out a lot of the new, harder and awesome, jump quests. They were so fucking sweet. I love platforming and they are doing it justice in this game by rewarding you for exploring something you would never expect to be there or lead to. Of the new ones, I completed Goemm's Lab in Metrica, and Morgan's Leap and Spekk's Laboratory in Caledon Forest. I love how Goemm's Lab and Spekk's Laboratory had gimmicks. In Goemm's Lab you had to travel through multiple Asura gates to proceed to the next part and each new area had a new thing to deal with. The first was windy and would blow you off back down to the world (this jump quest was high in the air), the second part had lightning striking down in a musical pattern that would kill you in about 2-3 hits if you didn't time your jumps, and the third was centered around cold air surfacing at intervals that would freeze you and drop you in mid-jump. Then at the very end you had to fight a boss as well, so that was a lot of fun for me and my friend. In Spekk's Lab, you have to interact with computer consoles that will temporarily make see-through platforms appear in a set pattern that you have to jump across before you fall to your death into the lava below. And at the very end there was also a boss fight at this one, too. Overall, I look forward to the game's release. There are a few things I hope they tweak, but other than that, I can't wait. Guild Wars 2 - DrRusty - 2012-07-23 I absolutely love my engineer. I got each class up to unlocking the first set of skill so I could get a rough idea what each played like. Engi was easily my favorite and what I'm going to play on release (asura engi). Thief is my 2nd favorite now that I've worked them out. I just wish their damage was higher. Here's TB playing on a pistol thief. I love it =D Guild Wars 2 - Corn - 2012-07-23 Eh, I prefer Shortbow Thief compared to pistol Thief. A lot more escapes, and it feels even more fluid. Thinking I'm rolling with longbow ranger, though. I didn't get to play much, but hopefully I will at release. Guild Wars 2 - Dusk - 2012-07-23 Thief relies very heavily on weapon swapping. Shortbow is only good for AoE/Utility. Guild Wars 2 - raizoo - 2012-07-23 Dusk Wrote:Thief relies very heavily on weapon swapping.But.... every class should be weapon/attunement/whatdoengineerswithnokitsdo swapping. Guild Wars 2 - Dusk - 2012-07-23 raizoo Wrote:But.... every class should be weapon/attunement/whatdoengineerswithnokitsdo swapping. Oh. Thief was the only class I played past level 5, so I guess I don't know enough about the other classes to make that generalization. But I was expecting to be able to use a certain weapon set as a "primary set," swapping to the secondary set for utility purposes. Instead, I had to switch frequently in mid-combat, because my melee set was pretty bad for AoE/mobility while my shortbow was pretty bad for DPS. Guild Wars 2 - raizoo - 2012-07-24 Swapping a lot during combat is what you're supposed to do. Also, apparently thieves, necros and mesmers need the most help. Guild Wars 2 - Corn - 2012-07-24 Oh great now I might do a Dual Pistol/Shortbow Thief main. Great. Thanks guys. Hoping there's another of those 1 day beta things. Guild Wars 2 - Bomberman - 2012-07-24 Glad to hear they're looking into mesmers. It did feel horribly underpowered. Guild Wars 2 - Kevin - 2012-07-24 Didn't realize NPCs can revive you.
