Currently Airing Anime - Smooth Criminal - 2010-07-12

Occult Academy 1: It's pretty interesting. I wonder where this series will go.

Shiki 1: Boring. That wasn't much of an interesting catalyst for the plot to begin at all. The visions and dreams LOOKED cool, but that's about it- none of the events were really that interesting and I had no particular interest in the cast. I'm not really interested in this just yet, but I can only hope it gets better. Yeah, character designs are pretty darn ugly. I have a friend who when I showed them the shows from this season, they were pretty excited about seeing Shiki on the chart. Hopefully, it turns into something interesting.

Highschool of the Dead 1: This series has a pretty fucking top notch script, and some pretty well directed action. That was actually pretty exciting and interesting; and I can't wait for more of this show if it'll be as good as this episode. Especially when Kohta gets introduced next episode. It still has the obvious downsides that the manga has; but it's good fun.

Kuroshitsuji II 2: Sebastian and Ciel version of the opening had some pretty nice parts- the part with Grell was pretty cool. This episode was a pretty fairly pleasant filler to reintroduce the cast- nothing special, but it was still kind of nice. Lau is still awesome even if he didn't do much in this episode, and I'm glad he didn't die on the Cutty Sark. I like how even though Sebastian and Ciel supposedly killed him and Ranmao, he acts as if nothing had happened and still is the same guy who turns from serious to comedic. I'm also left wondering how the thing Sebastian stole from the Trancy mansion revived Ciel, why Alois and Claude had that item in the first place, and how Claude and Sebastian exactly know each other. The end of the episode seems to suggest that Ciel may have been revived as a demon since he didn't show up in the photograph (who would have known that the random filler last season about the servants trying to be useful for once would give information that would actually be useful?) Next episode is a badass comeback of Grell. I'm not sure if I saw things right when I watched the preview since I watched this episode in lousy quality, but did I see Madam Red show up? Gonna have to rewatch this later.

Ookami-san 2: It was cute, I'll give it that. Main character has shaped into something reminiscent of Jacuzzi Splot. Taiga look-alike is like any other J.C. Staff show tsundere.

Also, Japanese audience statistics coming through.

Dengeki announced the result of the online poll on the most anticipated anime to be aired this summer. The vote was carried out from June 10th -24th.

“Expectation” Ranking for Summer Titles in 2010
*1, Strike Witches 2
*2, Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakamatachi
*3, Sengoku Basara Ni
*4, Nurarihyon no Mago
*5, Amagami SS
*6, Digimon Xros Wars
*7, Sekirei ~Pure Engagement~
*8, Kuroshitsuji II
*9, Seitokai Yakuindomo
*10, Shiki
*11, Mitsudomoe
*12, Densetsu no Yuusha no Densetsu
*13, Highschool of the Dead
*14, Asobi ni Iku yo!
*15, Seikimatsu Occult Gakuin
*16, Shukufuku no Campanella

Curious how this chart stacks up to what you expected and how you feel right now (I think the list didn't count OVAs, so try to consider that too). I'm not sure where I stand JUST yet- I have to finish up the first season of Strike Witches (Which I'm loving, by the way. Oddly, the reason I like it isn't because of the fanservice. Anyways, from what Dyx and Lexy's blog have said, I'm sure I'll absolutely love this), and I haven't picked up Sengoku Basara at all; and those are supposed to be some of the better titles for the season. Right now, I'm enjoying Kuroshitsuji II, HSTOD (because HTOD sounds dumb), and Occult Academy the most.

As for what I'm expecting later in the summer later, the Black★Rock Shooter OVA might be interesting. Since you guys have already brought up Cat pomegranate One, I don't know if Cat pomegranate One will be all that great. The manga (which is about Vietnam instead of the Iran Hostage Crisis) was already listened in the U.S. under the name "Apocalypse Meow", and from what I've heard, it's an incredibly dull history lesson that just involves animals with guns as a gimmick. Not sure if I like.

Dammit. Where did you guys watch Shiki? AnimeSeason STILL doesn't have it up. Searches on CrunchyRoll just bring up Senri from VK...

Here's my expectations list from what I've already seen so far:

Seikimatsu Occult Gakuin
High School of the Dead
Asobi ni Iku yo!
Amagami SS
Seitokai Yakuindomo
Densetsu no Yuusha no Densetsu
Shiki

Shiki is a snooze fest.

Highschool of the Dead

Amagami SS

Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakamatachi

Seitokai Yakuindomo

Mitsudomoe!

Strike Witches 2

Seikimatsu Occult Gakuin

Sekirei ~Pure Engagement~

Shiki

Shukufuku no Campanella
About to watch Asobi ni Iku yo!. Maybe. If I have time after Katanagatari 07 (BAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW)
Highschool of the Dead 2 was great. Seemed a little fast paced, but that was just the second chapter, if I recall correctly. Something along those lines. Can't wait to rage at that teacher.
I'm enjoying Amagami SS the most out of everything else. Ookami-san, Ryoushi was pretty cool for a minute or two, but otherwise doesn't really seem to show much in terms of a plot direction other than episodic help person x and comedy will ensue.
Seitokai Yakuindomo is fairly funny. Mitsudomoe the same. Strike Witches 2 seems like the first. Not to say it's bad or anything, but I found the first five more entertaining. Occult Academy was a bit boring. First section before the OP was interesting. Then it sort of slanted away until the beheading and the end. Sekirei is just... Boobs. Shiki was terrible. Despite Megumi being voiced by the wonderful Tomatsu Haruka, I still hate her. Shukufuku no Campanella, I don't even know what.

Currently Airing Anime - Hanabira.Kage - 2010-07-12

Well, Shiki should pick up its pace soon. The first chapter in the manga was a total bore too. It was all about how Megumi totally hates the town and its people (except Natsuno, whom she fancies), and Natsuno hating Megumi's guts just because she's a total moron.

The mystery actually starts building up in the second chapter or so, where many other people start contracting anemia and dying...after Megumi does.

*reads Wikipedia's summary of ep1*

So episode 1 ends right when Megumi dies. Well, I agree it's still very boring at that point. I was like, "Oh. She died. So what?" when I read that part. Of course, when people started dying left and right after Megumi did...it really made me sit up and take notice. Shiki is really all Mystery and Psychological. There's a little Supernatural, but it's not really all that significant. I'm not saying anything more because those would just be spoilers.

Look out for the Bible reference later on (if it'll be included in the anime at all). I'll give a hint: Seishin and Sunako. Smile

Funimation is simulcasting it on their site. I think they're usually a week late with their episodes, though.; but I think Shiki came in on time. Their site has advertisements, but it's at least got decent quality compared to a lot of streams.

Amagami SS 02:
Quite possibly my favorite show of the season. I can't wait to see where this is going but I can't help but think that the Haruka arc will end badly since she is such a tease.

Occult Academy 01:
I like Maya's facial expressions. Will continue to watch.

High school of the dead 2 - Needs more nurse fan service!!! lol jk. I like how this manga/anime has a good mix of horror, fan service, drama, and kicking ass.

Katanagatari 7: I enjoyed the game-like presentation, but the show is getting a bit boring. I see that Nanami had a tough life but it didn't move me at all. The Maniwani head keeps talking as if he's one step ahead of everyone, but everything he did so far is stupid, illogical, and useless. Hope it picks up again.

Anyone know who does the voice of the pink headed smart girl in high school of the dead? She kinda sounds like mina tepes from vampire bound

Ookami 2: Sniper!! Nice. The rest of the group seem to be useless though...and the narrator got in the way again.

Kitamura Eri voices her, but she wasn't Mina Tepes- she was Nelly. She was Karen from Bakemonogatari, Ami from Toradora, and Yui from Angel Beats, if that helps by using popular relatively recent titles.

High School of the Dead 2
Fanservice is a lot more fun when you treat it like Where's Waldo? By my standards of fanservice there were 7 gratuitous panty shots (10 if you count shots of the nurse's past the first reveal), 6 gratuitous boob angles, pan shots, or jiggles-some with audio, and one gratuitous ass shot.

Occult Academy 2
Behold, the birth of the profile pic mirror shot... or not. I was curious why they started the OP years at 2012. Guess that answers it. I like this show. Creepy and silly is a good combination to pull off. I hope they keep it up. And yeah, great faces.

Ookami-san 1-2
Full disclaimer: I really can't stand tsundere for long. Bakemonogatari being the royal exception, I had zero expectations for this show. Then the narrator blew them all away. That was not the reason I expected to dislike it. You can rip on fairy tail tropes without that old hag. And I thought we got over the nondescript male lead design thing? Everyone in the show is distinct except him.

Kuroshitsuji II 01:
I wasn't going to pick this up until I saw that Sebastian was in it and after reading Smooth's posts. I was a little disappointed at the start of the episode since the new master seems like a real bitch; at least Claude seems cool. Everything got more exciting as soon as someone knocked on the door. As always, I love watching all of the amazing things the butlers can do, such as riding the food cart and tap dancing.

Highschool of the Dead 02:
Yay, Saeko.

The site's being a peach and keeps redirecting me to Nevarre's homepage. =.=

Asobi ni Iku Yo is fairly interesting. Plot seems to have something quite mysterious to it, and it looks to be more than just fan service. God, I am so envious of Manami and her room. Hopefully, this show doesn't degrade to plotless garbage ecchi comedy.
What I don't understand is that Manami and that teacher made such a big deal about Eris's breasts being so big. As if theirs is small. Anyways, really loving the cast quite well too. Itou Kanae, Hanazawa Kana, and Tomatsu Haruka. What's not to like?

^The picture gave me a laugh.

Durarara: Pretty nice series once I finally got around to watching it. A lot of likeable characters with unique characterization. Izaya liking Shizuo makes a lot of sense. Karisawa is still the best character of the show. I was pleased that I managed to recognize a bunch of the references. Celty is innocently charming. I though Saki was Kida's sister for a while, though I'm not sure where I got the idea from.
