Maybe because of different cultural beliefs. I know parents that are more strict than mine, and they're Indians, or whatever. I can't really side with his parents though, because whenever I have children, I'd want them to go out of the house a bit, just so:
a) I can have a peaceful time at home with MAI (3D) WAIFU.
b) I can secretly watch anime.
c) They can see what reality is like.
