. . . return upstairs and allow Reginald to find him.

Derrick stares at the door as he backs away from it. It draws him in with a strong feeling of familiarity, but his fear pushes him away. He curses his bad decision and races back upstairs before he gets caught. Back in the foyer, he catches Reginald going back into the kitchen. "Wait. I'm here."

"Oh? And did you have fun?" Reginald smiles, turning around, platter in hand.

Derrick swallows hard and says, "Uh...not really. You said make yourself at home...so I thought I'd look for somewhere to sit."

"So I did," Reginald laughs, taking pleasure in Derrick's nervousness. "Take that door right there. You should find it a relaxing room for some answers." Derrick stares at the door uneasily, knowing it to be locked. Regardless, he plays along and goes to open it...only to find that it now opens. "Something the matter, Derrick?" Reginald stands directly behind him, a sly grin painted on his face.

With Derrick leading, the two men enter the room. It is an eclectic study, filled with bizarre artifacts. In front of a massive, ornate fireplace, two armchairs welcome relaxation and conversation. Reginald sets the platter on the table between them and takes a seat, inviting Derrick to do the same. He obeys and places his backpack next to the chair. Reginald takes his cup of tea and sips it with a sense of refinement fitting for his unusual demeanor. Not eager to agitate his host, Derrick follows suit and drinks his tea. "W-wow. This is amazing, " he says, sincerely. Reginald nods and starts their conversation.

"Where shall we start, then? What do you wish to know?"

Fumbling with his tea cup, Derrick manages to ask, "How have we met before?"

"A party, silly boy. I am an esteemed friend of your father's." Reginald stares into Derrick's eyes. "You are deeply troubled, I am afraid. Your father hoped that I could cure you."

"What the hell are you talking about?" Derrick asks, his anger growing.

"Settle down. I understand this is very difficult for you," Reginald pauses, closing his eyes in thought, "but you must realize I only wish to help you."

Derrick shakes his head, frustrated and confused. "What are you... No, something is very wrong here!"

"I thought we had been making progress, up until last week when you ran away. Your delusions seem to have worsened... The drugs have not been helping at all?"

"I... No! I refuse to believe this! I know what I saw! There was a cave... The books! THE WOMAN!" Derrick frantically tries to prove his sanity, jumping to his feet. "I saw her murder someone! Then the river...the labyrinth... I came down here! It was a massive chasm! I saw... And then... But you..." His determination weakens as it all begins to sound crazy even to himself.

Reginald gently places his hand on Derrick's shoulder. "It will be alright, I promise. We will sort this all out once again... No matter how long it takes." His sinister grin conflicts with his kind words, his eyes hold a curious glimmer.

"Where...am I...?"

"My private estate. I find it is more relaxing for my patients if I treat them here."

"I'm your patient... And you're helping me get better? But...no. It wasn't real?"

"That is right. You must not run away again, Derrick. You had us all very concerned."

"Us...? My family?"

"Of course, Derrick. You are not alone. We are a ways out of town, but they come visit you often. You must fight it. Do not give into madness. Remember the progress we have made!"

Derrick hangs his head, unable to accept Reginald's explanation. But at the same time, it has all felt so surreal. And terrifying. He thinks maybe it could be true after all. Footsteps in the foyer interrupt their conversation. The door opens and a beautiful woman dressed in a regal Victorian dress walks in. Reginald walks over to meet her.

"Hello, dear. Sorry I-- Oh, excuse me. I didn't realize you were with a patient." Her voice instantly attracts Derrick's attention, and he turns to face her. His companion. The woman of his dreams. The murderer...

"IT'S HER! SHE IS THE ONE I SAW!" Derrick screams, horrified and ravaged with his conflicting memories.

"Derrick! Please remain calm. I do not know what you have seen, but this is my wife. Naomi Halgravi. You will show her respect."

"No... I saw! I saw her..." Derrick desperately tries to make sense of everything in his head. He doesn't know what is truth. But he knows what feels right in his heart, and, acting on impulse, he . . .

A) Trusts Reginald and allows him to help him.
B) Attacks Reginald and Naomi.
C) Flees deeper into the mansion.

 INVENTORY

First to five, of course.

O_O

A. Every other option lacks total common sense.

A Southperry Choose Your Own Adventure! [Story/Game] - tehflyer - 2011-06-11

C. I want another death. I also feel like we might find something while running.

B) Attacks Reginald and Naomi.

Too many sly smiles and sinister grins. Also, if everything was part of his delusions, how does Derrick have a bag filled with stuff he found? Surprising development though, especially with Naomi showing up. Perhaps they're twins? Derrick's wife is imprisoned, while the evil twin is here now.

I don't trust him.

In the story I don't believe Derrick has checked his backpack since he has gotten to the mansion. Not saying Derrick is crazy, just pointing something out.

This is a hard choice.

C.

That's correct. However, it is assumed he's been in his backpack once or twice, since he briefly used his flashlight in the basement. Though there's multiple ways to see that, such as an outside compartment (never specified), not having to look at the other things in the bag to get it, etc.

Working on the path of "he is crazy," the objects inside could be completely different than he views them, as well.

I'm not saying he's crazy. I'm not saying anything. Just adding perspective as a neutral bystander.

All the more reason to choose B. Grab one of those hard cover books to smack them and prove your sanity.

One A, one B, four C's.

C seems like the best option. If not we get another death.... and deaths are fun!

A Southperry Choose Your Own Adventure! [Story/Game] - Mark - 2011-06-11

A.

Even though you knuckleheads picked C and forgot Reginald is like a wizard or something and can stop time at will.

No Mark, we must die once more!

A. I kinda want to work for the darkside now.

Mark, personally I think our host would allow us to run away without stopping time on us. He finds us amusing. He wants to toy with us. So I don't think he'd just outright stop us.

While I personally don't like the fact that we are now at a spot where all the options seem bad, I'm forced to go with A.

I have a suggestion. Since the story has got rolling a bit why not keep a collection of it in the first post like you did before?

B) Attacks Reginald and Naomi.

Even all powerful time wizards make mistakes eventually, maybe his guard is down.

I'm filing a missing Kyle report.
