I find the aggro'd effect a hinderance. Lets say I decided to do something on rope or on stand on those boxes at bains to drop stuff to chat for a little bit, those bains start spitting their fireballs at me because my aura was on slowly killing them. I have to turn it off whenever I want to do something, and then sometimes I forget to turn it back on at all and keep pressing my body boost key only to remember that I turned off my aura.

Oh, and this is probably mentioned but the DoT effect doesn't seem to work on bosses at all, I tried to use it at Mu Lung Dojo, did nothing at all =/. Kinda wished it did though.

Main qualm about hashing up a 4th job build for my Battlemage is Cyclone. I have no idea what it's like, how it acts or how useful it is as a skill. Is it a good 1 pointer skill or does it need a decent amount of SP to become a worthy addition to training/bossing? Dependant on how useful it is, is it decent enough to consider maxing early (in levels 120-150) or can it be left until later on?

I only ask because alot of the builds (except the one in the OP) seem to be focusing on optimising the 6blow/ADA/stance attack pattern first.

Am fully aware all builds are highly subject to mastery book availability as of current. :<

Twister does not allow you to use any attacks while its in animation and does not let you jump either. That means you can't teleport and you cant even down jump to monsters. At maxed level, its like using a constant dark shock for a few secs that does damage every second but, has a longer cooldown. At most, you'd use it at bosses, its not even a useful training skill at all.

Personally, I'm opposed to maxing 6blow early, the damage increase is so minuscule. I'd probably just do stance and get ADY just for its passive effects.

Battle mage guide - Twilight - 2011-01-05

If you can time your teleports properly, Twister is a decent training skill. I use it for lulz here and there. Really nice to use at pap with Body Boost to stand on the top platform and dish out damage (You don't get hit while in Twister). Only other problem is the mobs that drop 20/30 are extremely uncommon training wise (Cerebes, Silver Slime, Blue Wyverns)

Blue Wyverns are actually pretty good for paladins, so you might not have too much to worry about with whichever book they drop.

Paladins still go there? The god awful layout alone would make me think they'd have better alternatives.

Pretty sure you can still Teleport?

Top platform is key here... unfortunately you can still be stunned and dispelled while using Twister so it's uses at certain bosses may be limited. I think if a map is structured in a way such that you can teleport or fall (can't drop down sadly) everywhere you need to go, Twister could have its uses. At the very least, if you find yourself hurting for health somehow, you can use Twister to get back to full even at lv1. I don't plan on maxing it early though; the aforementioned FB/ADA/Stance with early Endurance is my current plan (finally found an ADA20 but failed it...).

I think it depends on your playing style. Personally I won't touch stance for quite some times as I use Adv Dark Chain to stun and pull monsters. Stance would be useful if you go bossing a lot. I found it to be effective at around lvl 25 (80%Wink.
I have lvl 1 Cyclone. It is enough for me to clear all Gigantic Vikings at the bottom of the map so it is a good 1 pointer skill. ADA and FB are the main skills to max. I plan to save my SPs if I can't find the mastery books.

Alright, i think i've finalized the 1st and 2nd job builds. I confirmed that you get 3 SP on 2nd job advance which i didn't know before and i fixed a few positions of skills.

Battle mage guide - TLeviathan - 2011-01-05

You're still missing a handful of points in 2nd and 3rd jobs. You should end up with 23 points between booster and drain in 2nd but you've only got 20 (totaling 120 points for the job). Your end summary also lists 121 as your point total, yet it's really 123. Your 3rd job ends with 152 spent, your summary says 151 total, and again its 153 in actuality. Probably just loose ends from changing it around so often.

Fixed the end summary totals for all jobs. I'll fix the build SP for 2nd and 3rd later. I think it was confusing me because i wasn't sure what the point totals for each job advancement was for resistance. Thanks.

donovan Wrote:Pretty sure you can still Teleport?

Ok, that was my fault, you can still teleport and use buffs however, can't utilize any attack skills. I think I tried to change my Auras and it wouldn't let me change because I had body boost on, so I mixed myself up.

Let us assume that there is a way to put SP from 3rd job to 2nd job. What would you put your points into? E.g. would you drop Reaper for more Blood Drain? Please share your opinions thanks.

Hadriel

Battle mage guide - CrimsonJohnny - 2011-01-05

If I could do that, I'd take points out of Reaper to get better timers on Booster and Drain.

Reaper would most definetly be the skill to go.

Sigh... you can read this post that I made over at MSEA forums.

http://forums.asiasoftsea.net/showpost.php?p=13016039&postcount=587

At max level of Revive, to hit 90% chances of summoning at least 1 Reaper, you need to kill at least 22 monsters. At standard level (i.e. 13) of Revive, to hit the same target you need to kill at least 32 monsters. I suppose BmG's summons were supposed to differ from Adventurer's e.g. Elquines, Birds etc. in that their numbers will make up for short duration and long attacking interval, while providing an autonomous auto-targetting mechanism (which is stupid because it behaves just like a monster in terms of movement).

I could do a simple statistical calculation to find the mean DPS increase for Reapers compared to Adventurers, but IMO having Bains shoot at you from afar because they were aggro-ed by your Reapers seems very stupid... would be even worse in TT both in terms of probability of Reaper-mob collison (V increase => activity/fugacity decreases => rate of reaction decreases) as well as even longer ranged and more painful attacks from e.g. Oblivion Guardians.

Though... given the number of mobs that Zak vomits out... as well as for other bosses e.g. MLTC, Manon/Griffey...? I have to admit, I'm very curious as to find out what on earth would happen if you used Revive during Dragon Rider PQ...

Battle mage guide - Takebacker - 2011-01-05

What about the 10% chance of instant kill? Other class summons never really get to be spread out across an entire map occasionally sending you some experience, nor do they even get to do enough damage to a single mob where it would die because it follows the character around which is already slaughtering everything in sight anyway.

3 days, numerous 2x drop cards and i've gotten one dark aura 20... and one advanced yellow aura 30 T___T

the skill books are impossible to find Hothead... i've never had this much trouble trying to find skill books.

i was saving sp for maxing finishing blow and dark aura but i've given up for now and just plan to focus on training again. to utilize sp in the mean time, i leveled stance :x i put five points into energize and its been a help.

the only lvl 20 book i've gotten to pass was finishing blow 20. 69m. it was the first one i've seen in FM since the job release. i've been hunting bone fish for the book and i couldn't get the guy to tell me where he found the book. i know of one other battle mage in bellocan with finishing blow 20. neither of us have had any luck finding finishing blow 30.

oddly enough, the dark aura 20 that i found and failed dropped at dual ghost pirates... which is strange considering me and a party member also got dark aura 30 at duals as well. (this has been the one drop i've found so far differing from the translated drop tables)

but yeah, locating finishing blow 20/30 and dark aura 20 has been incredibility frustrating in bellocan D: i have no clue at this point when i'll get the two skills maxed lol

Has anyone actually tested this? I just tried Conversion with Rex Earrings and it stacked (multiplied my HP by 2.1). I couldn't find anyone online with HB so I couldn't try it myself.
