I was prepared to buy my own car when I was 17, having worked many hours to gather the meager funds to purchase one, but then my Great Uncle wasn't allowed to drive anymore and it was given to me.

However, it was 22 year old car, and I ended up paying for everything to fix it so I'd mind as well have just bought my own car in the first place.

These kids who get brand new cars for no reason from their parents.......it's mind boggling. My parents would flip out when I asked for $50 for a game, and these kids get $20,000-$50,000 cars for absolutely nothing.

One school acquaintance of mine (he wasn't really a friend) got a brand new car for his birthday. When his parents were inquired as to why they bought a brand new car for their kid, they said, "He needed a car, what were we supposed to do?" They even gave him exclusive access to the 1-car garage they had.

Yeah, nowadays my parents might question why I bought something, but they don't give me pomegranate anymore because it's my money.

One of my college friends excuses for never buying games and always borrowing or pirateing them was "My parents don't give me allowance anymore". (Because, help paying for your college is nothing, you should get allowance too). Told him to get a job like everyone else, but apparently "minimum wage is not money".

I pay for my own car too! And I paid for my computer, my iPad, my clothes, my desk, everything I own, really. Meanwhile, my brother just asks for what he wants and gets it. Sad Oh well, it really is true that you appreciate your stuff more if you paid for it yourself.
