WinRar?

For P2P, don't use Limewire.

Soulseek is 12039820938 times better, and I believe it's Linux based and really simple to use. I've had it for years.

No winrar, I've been a personal fan of ALZip for unzipping.

Music playing programs: Winamp <-------

For messagers, try Pidgin or Meebo for all in one. I have it and I love it.

I like Limewire, but Winamp is indeed epic.

Ditch VLC and get SMPlayer or CCCP (Combined Community Codec Pack).

VLC mutilates subs.

Like others have said, ditch Limewire (I don't know why you'd want that anyways, the only reason people have it is to pirate music, which can be done much more efficiently through torrents).

If you want decent video editing stuff get a hold of Camtasia Studio. You could also grab yourself a copy of Fraps.

Combo messengers are the way to go if you use multiple, so you could get one of the ones mentioned so far.

If anything, at least ditch Limewire for Frostwire. That way you don't have to pirate it, easier to update, etc.

Also: Have you considered using Avast instead of AVG? I've used both and found Avast to be better overall.

Just like posters before me ^_~..I would switch AVG with Avast(it's free as well)... i've used both & found Avast 100x better than AVG. Granted that it has that creepy voice telling you that the database has been updated :f6:. Oh yeah and get rid of Limewire, you have uTorrent, lol no need for Limewire..For instant messenger use: Meebo or Digsby. Everything else looks good Smile

I'd recommend foobar2000 for your audio needs. Low memory use, and completely customizable. Fun stuff. I've been using IZArc for all archives, but I've never seen anyone else use it, maybe I've missed something. As for when you update to Vista (or downgrade if that is your opinion) I'd recommend Virtual Clone Drive instead of Daemon Tools (plain doesn't work).

If you want to get rid of creepy sexy voice in Avast, there are sound options available. Tongue

Frostwire, Limewire, they all suck. Just get uTorrent and torrent stuff.

Are you serious? That Stephen Hawking voice is the sexiest voice in history.

How about 7z?

I think iTunes will be perfect application for the media/music player.

Lylac Wrote:Frostwire, Limewire, they all suck. Just get uTorrent and torrent stuff.
Not to mentioned BitComet 'cause this application easy to use. (For me, don't know about anyone else)

I would say no to iTunes; it's bloated crap that forces you to install Quicktime as well. There are plenty of alternatives.

Winamp works as an iPod manager, you can buy DRM-free MP3s on Amazon, etc.

Internet Protection:
Get rid of Zonealarm. Just use AVG.

P2P Client:
Limewire? Lawdy. I just torrent everything, or eMule it, but you gotta know how to configure it. If not, Ares.

Burning/Mounting Software:
Daemon Tools + Alcohol 120%

IZArc. WinRar's "free software" notice is annoying.

Avast > AVG as others have said
Google Chrome? Unless you have a lot of Firefox add-ons.

And if you ever touch an image, get Paint.NET as well.

Recommended Programs? - Shinryuji - 2008-11-13

Digsby's my personal fave of em

I like AVG because it doesn't babysit you.

Yeah, you need to install QuickTime as well 'cause iTunes can't fully function w/o QuickTime. Just my suggestion, tho'.
