Baby chickens are injected with ink while still embryos. They turn out like this.

I saw this when I was in the Dominican Republic, I was little so I thought they were ADORABLE.

Unless this causes them no harm whatsoever, not sure how to feel about it now. :I

I think it sort of follows along the same lines as neon injected fish.

If there are no harmful side-effects, i don't really have a problem with it. The chickens aren't living in the wild nature so predators isn't a problem.

Are those the ones that turns back to normal after a few months (IF, they survive that long)? If so, I didn't know that's how people colored the chicks. I thought they were spray painted or something... >_>

Monocle

So, uhm, what is the purpose of having rainbow chicks? :f6:

It's okay for me, but.. why human kind? WHY?!

EDIT: inb4 Future science can let parents choose their babies skin colors. Mini-hulks anyone? After all, aren't they adorable?

Because look at how freakin' adorable they are. Glitter

Also from what I understand, there are no harmful side-effects of this, and once they lose their baby feathers they grow to look like normal chickens.

NO HARM NO FOWL OH GOD I AM HILARIOUS.

Creating a future for racist chickens, segregation of the pink community.

I don't think it's permanent, because they typically shed their chick fur/hair/babyfeathers and grow the garden variety white stuff.

Sure, it's totally unnecessary and purely for our cosmetic pleasure, but it's a far cry from what is actually 'animal cruelty'.

Green chicken: Let's cross the road, guys!
Yellow chicken: I don't know about this... it seems dangerous.
Pink chicken: Quit being so yellow!
Blue chicken: You're such a chicken!
Group: Bawk bawk ba-kaw!
Yellow Chicken: Q-quit it guys! I'm not yellow! I'll do it! I'll cross the road!

And that's why the chicken crossed the road. Peer pressure.

About two weeks actually. It's very short lived.

Wow. If it's only two weeks, then chicks grow quite fast. I remember one of the chicks I had being ~10 inches tall at some point but still retaining some of its (blue)color. So I assumed the color stayed a month at the very least.

Uff, my sense of time sucks.
