What kind of Asian "Pop" do you listen to the most? - Khoi - 2011-02-20 Making this thread because I'm curious, I already have an idea as to which one is the most popular, but let's see if I'm right. Feel free to post your opinion(s). I listen to J-Pop the most at the moment, also some C-Pop (though I only listen to Michael Wong's stuff at the moment). Trying to get into K-Pop, but that's a pretty hopeless route. K-Pop just isn't my my kinda gig, though I can listen to it. What kind of Asian "Pop" do you listen to the most? - KaidaTan - 2011-02-20 Unless you actually understand the language or have a translation handy, doesn't liking foreign music end up meaning that it just sounds good to you? In spite of having liked jpop long before I knew any Japanese, I've always felt that it was kind of shallow. Maybe I'm thinking too hard though; there shouldn't be any reason to expect everyone to like their music because they find deep meaning in it. I guess that arose when a friend asked me if I didn't like rap because of the lyrics of most of the songs. I'd like to say that that mattered to me more than the music itself, but in the end I just don't like how it sounds. What kind of Asian "Pop" do you listen to the most? - Greg - 2011-02-20 Why do people like music that they do not understand? Out of the 591 artists on my computer I'm pretty sure the only one that would fall into "Asian Pop" is BoA. And all of the songs are sung in English. They're interested in what's going on, even if they don't understand. The mystery of what's being said sparks interest in it. On topic : I don't really listen to pop. I guess the only pop I've really heard has been Japanese. lol The only non-Japanese Asian pop that I've heard was "GEE GEE GEE BABY BABY BABY GEE GEE GEE GEE BABY BABY!"♬ What kind of Asian "Pop" do you listen to the most? - Greg - 2011-02-20 ShiKage Wrote:It's because Humans are naturally curious. I have a very hard time believing people listen to asian pop because they're curious rather than because it's kawaii desu. Because it's catchy and sounds good. ![]() I have a lot of foreign music, and not just Asian music. But as for the topic at hand, I can't really decide. A friend of mine got me into a lot of C-Pop and I listen to quite a lot of J-Pop, some K-Pop songs sound really good to me too. In the end, I probably have more J-Pop songs. What kind of Asian "Pop" do you listen to the most? - Khoi - 2011-02-20 You can like whatever music you want for whatever reason, it doesn't have to be meaningful to you. I'm not too picky on this, because people listens to certain genres for their own reasons, and it's really pointless to ask. I really can't even answer it if you were to ask me why I like J-Pop. The only thing I like more than J-Pop/Rock would be Metal, and that really depends on what band it is. There are actually people that listens to music that they don't understand, but they look up translations anyways just to understand (I do this sometimes). Greg Wrote:I have a very hard time believing people listen to asian pop because they're curious rather than because it's kawaii desu. I got curious about one particular band, not because it's "kawaii desu", but because of how the band members are portrayed in the video, as well as what the meaning in the video implied. I didn't think this was cute. I thought it sounded nice. ]
What kind of Asian "Pop" do you listen to the most? - Jon - 2011-02-20 I don't understand a lick of Korean but I really enjoy Korean music for some reason. ninja'd by Karen and Ken. :< What kind of Asian "Pop" do you listen to the most? - Kevo - 2011-02-20 It seems a lot of people are into Japanese everything. No matter what, it seems to be much more interesting than stuff from one's own culture. What kind of Asian "Pop" do you listen to the most? - Rob - 2011-02-20 I like Japanese music because of well... the music. The composition styles are really catchy, some particular chords they use a lot are really moving. I can't understand a thing they are singing, but sure the lyrics sound good. I like German music too and I don't know squat about German language (mainly because of Rammstein). Oh, K-Pop is okay too. The mainstream stuff is pretty generic (as is J-Pop), but some bands like Clazziquai Project rock my world so hard. Korean Rap on the other hand... guys are beasts, especially Epik High and Maestro. What kind of Asian "Pop" do you listen to the most? - butterfλi - 2011-02-20 At people who wonders why listen to music when you don't understand it, Of my library, only 4% are songs that I actually understand the lyrics to. Music is universal and not restricted to having to understand the lyrics to understand the song. Yes, lyrics sings the message of the song but so does the melody. You can tell the difference in mood between a slow song and a fast song. Vocals in a song is just another chord, like the drums, like the piano, like the violin and as long as you hear the mixture of tempo, beats and notes, you get the mood of the song. So obviously, you won't hear the tale the lyrics are telling but listening to foreign songs isn't too different from listening to instrumentals songs - you're listening for the notes.
