Coming from a former religious Catholic, denying people the right to love another human being who loves them back, no matter what sex, is stupid. If they're of legal age, what's the problem? Basing reasons off religion is also stupid, I honestly don't think it's anyone's business how someone wishes to live.

Well, law isn't religion and gays are restricted from marriage by law. Those laws shouldn't be there.

It's more like removing religion from the government. Much of the problems of sexism in muslim countries are because state and church are very close to each other.
Argentina already allows it and "equal under the law" should cover for marriage to whoever wants it.
Just to be a bit of a devil's advocate: what reasons you can give pro gay marriage that couldn't be used pro polygamy?

As far as the State is concerned, "marriage" is just shorthand for a bunch of contracts, that entitles a couple to certain rights (which vary between jurisdictions). A married couple are usually considered each other's "next of kin", meaning all sorts of things about automatic power of attorney, default inheritance, shared parenthood, shared finances, etc. And when people divorce, this is again shorthand for nullification of said contracts and a new set coming into play.
Like with the DADT (that didn't actually prevent gays from serving, only made their lives harder), having gay marriage "forbidden" doesn't actually prevent gays from being married de facto, it just means they have a lot more paperwork to go through to make sure they get all the rights and duties of a married couple. Allowing the State to register these marriages will make things much simpler for the gay couples and also for the authorities and whoever else cares about people being married as an indication that they share lives ("family discount" at the zoo?).

Funny, I don't remember any stipulation of people being gay means they aren't religious.
As far as I'm concerned, they deserve the same rights as everyone else, i.e. just let them get married if they want to like any other couple.

Marriage or civil union. Marriage is a union recognized by the church. Civil unions are recognized by the government and allow the sharing of bank accounts, etc. I support civil unions but not marriages.

The wording is very iffy and this is a very sensitive topic. The law should not make a difference. What the Churches do is their own business. Any laws regarding Churches discriminating by race, gender, income, etc should apply to sexual orientation. I don't actually know what laws there are which deal with that matter, but I see no reason for them to differ.
In short, Marriage is no longer solely a religious construct and it must be treated as such.
I am a bit curious though. What do you mean by Gay marriage should be allowed with certain restrictions?

I don't mind, to be honest. If they love each other, then I find it acceptable. If they marry for laughs, then that would be pointless. Marriage is for loving couples, regardless of gender. Sometimes friendship between 2 people can turn to love.
