So what is the point of Pink Bean? - Tigeon - 2010-12-20
So yea, maplestory has been through a lot. And currently our final boss in this version is pink bean. So now I ask, why is this boss so lack luster compared to all the other bosses in game?
Let me explain this further. For pap, if you finish the quest chain you get a level 100 cape that gives +400 accuracy.
For zakum, you get a helm and skillbooks. (and chaos zakum gives a great helm)
For horntail, you get a wicked nice pendant. (chaos horntail for an even better pendant) (and maybe maple warrior 30, its pretty hard to confirm it with all the d/c issues...)
But for pink bean? The best thing it drops is a rock of time, which forges timeless weapons...Timeless weapons are only marginally better than reverse, and completely outclassed by preexisting alien weapons. (sorta sad that the event weapons were much better than the end game weapons of the game..)
Not to mention the fact that the weapons comming out in KMST (the level 130-140 series) can be argued that they are better ( the stat requirement if very high on them..) We don't know how to obtain these weapons, but rumor is that they are obtained from the level 16x area or pvp (which doesn't make sense since pink bean is 18x boss...)
But really, what is the point of Pink Bean? What do you get for beating this absurd boss? A blue megaphone saying you beat it? Just a bit of pride for defeating this boss? Just for some self-satisfaction?
I really don't get it, so someone mind explaining?

But Pink Bean seems like a lot more effort and work than the rest of the game for no absolute point. In fact, in most threads that involve past pink bean kills, most of the runners lots mils worth of money and gained really no profit from killing it.
The only reason reason i would kill pink bean is just to finish his quest chain, because im a quest addict and almost finsihed every quest in game.

I don't see a point to that either.>_> Which is is why I don't plan on getting to level 200 on any character. Most of your core skills that you need are maxed by around 150, maybe even 160.

I know its not going to be permamently end game, since i doubt that is possible in an online mmo. But for now, i really can't see why anyone would want to go through the whole ordeal of killing pink bean with no absolute gain from it.

If you see what some people do for recreation you would be amazed.
Just an example of that is climbing the everest, you get exausted waste a whole chunk of money and put your life at risk just to be on top of a mountain.

But I can see the point in that though, because people like pushing themselves to the limit. They also like to do it for the fame when they want a cause to be known, plus the endorsements that follow.
I guess I can somewhat see why people kill pink bean, its just for publicity status, like being known has being one of the people in the first crew to beat pink bean in a server or something.

every final fantasy has these optional superbosses that are above and beyond more difficult than the final boss and require grinding to the max level plus a fair amount of luck to defeat, and when you beat them, all you get is a key item saying "hey you beat 'em"

Oh i see what you mean. I've played a couple games like that. Like how Kingdom Hearts had a end game boss but there was also the chance of fight I believe seriphoth (serious spell check someone please) who was much harder than the boss.
I guess I can see pink bean as that.

sephiroth* but yes, same principle. its just kind of a "what else is there to do" and encourages people to drop money on miracle cubes as a way to progress their character even when they cap out

Yea i see it now I guess. I just wish there was something else to pink bean besides that though. Like a godly cape, or earring, or hell even a shoe! Boss shoes would be cool...

Basically, yeah. As you said you would beat Pink Bean to finish his quest line because it's rewarding for you to finish quests, some people want to beat him because he is the toughest.

There is always Timeless weapons, but they aren't much better than Reverse.

PreBB you barely broke even. It should be better now since it requires less people and less wheels.
It's also the most reliable source of MW30, that's about it.

Not really sure about that, because fiel said that with pink bean's wdef, it theoretically gives pink bean around 7. something bil of hp...

It's just to give players a challenge. Perma beginners, mu gong at dojo, PB are good examples. People make them to gain a sense of accomplishement when their goal is met. Sadly, nowadays all I hear from my bl is: 'I want to get 1 k more on my range!' instead of 'hee lets go drpq!, the rewards suck but we'll have a good time.'
